![]() ViViD has opened up a new world that new arrivals will be pulled into while frequent players will be invited to check out. This particular setting is the new beta world that CERES is constructing in time for the Hallow's Eve celebrations and festivals. It's a world inhabited by the undead and several ghouls and monsters of typical horror lore. Inside, one will encounter werewolves, lichens, vampires, succubi, incubi, specters, mummies, and so on. They will be on the prowl and eager to attack, but players need only concern themselves with getting through and getting out. At first, players will awaken outside of a large manor supposedly owned by a wealthy noble who is rumored to be practicing strange alchemic experiments within. Many know him simply as The Count. New arrivals and those logging into ViViD will first find themselves being greeted by their guide at the start screen:

Welcome to CEREALIA's latest intro post. For your convenience, we have compiled a post detailing everyone's usual arrival experience (which is not entirely applicable this round for reasons stated above^) and a FAQ that should explain everything in more detail. Please read them thoroughly before playing. Thank you! |

because. well. she looked like she needed help. no, actually, judging by the sound of "heeelppp meee" she very much needs it. of course, he's not so strong on his own, so with a look at toothless: ]
A little help, buddy? [ and a positioning behind hiccup from the dragon department, they'll now together work on yanking mary out of her pit of wolves. hiccup holding onto her hand, toothless holding onto hiccup. he calls out: ] Hey! Uh, in there. I'm Hiccup, and we're going to get you out now. Ready?
[ and before she can even respond, toothless will pull, and a result hiccup will too. be free, young medusa, be free! ]
no subject
... And into Hiccup.
Oops. ]
Aah--!
no subject
Aagh!
[ and from toothless, a dragon-equivalent "AHH" as hiccup falls backward right into him. tiny girl, meet tiny boy, as they both fall back into a pile on toothless's side.
a small wince, and then: ]
Oh gods. I-- admittedly expected that to go better than it did.
no subject
[ said the queen, very succinctly, and not at all in a garbled and dizzy fashion. ]
no subject
toothless grunts, still mildly annoyed by the resultant... everything, while hiccup looks down at their rescued but not really rescued victim. ]
From one pile to another, huh? [ sheepishly. ] Sorry. Uh, about that. Are you okay?

[ he's honestly wondering what's got her so shocked, until he looks behind him and remembers. right. right, people, dragon, shocking thing.
a small groan, and toothless picks himself up, forcing hiccup to straighten. ]
... And that would be why. [ standing up now, though not without a bit of a wobble. once steadied (with a little help from toothless), he offers a hand to mary. ] Don't worry, he's friendly.
no subject
He's not going to burn down towns?
no subject
Absolutely no town burning, people eating, home destroying. [ counting on his free hand's fingers as he lists off each horrible thing that toothless does not do. ] He's more like the... clothes ruining with saliva, eating all your fish, ruining what you just cleaned up kind of dragon.
[ another huff from toothless. ]
What? Like you don't.
no subject
He sounds more like a cat...
no subject
the look toothless gives hiccup is one in the "you better not agree" category. ]
Now, I wouldn't go that far. [ a pause. ] Maybe a bit-- Ow!
[ and, smack. dragon tail, meet hiccup's shoulder. mary, meet a dragon shaking his head. ]
no subject
[ oh no, she made him mad-- ] You look just like a dragon, though!
no subject
[ hiccup's rubbing his shoulder. at least toothless has taken to moving away from hiccup and expanding his wings a little, as if to show mary that yes, indeed, he does look just like a dragon.
at least she's honest. and nice, so far. ]
And yeah, he knows. He might only do it to protect himself, but he still breathes fire. [ dragons! ]
no subject
no subject
[ how wonderfully vague. but he owns toothless, toothless owns him. he's not really sure how to word that, exactly. ]
Long story.
no subject
[ She likes stories. ]
no subject
[ he's exaggerating. kind of. he's pretty sure it might actually be the first time.
toothless takes this opportunity to move on closer to mary, head low to the ground, his small exhales of air audible. ]
Well, before I make you regret your choice, introductions. That's [ a hand towards the dragon who is attempting to get more familiar with small medusas ] Toothless, I'm... Hiccup.
[ he gestures towards her now ]
And you are?
no subject
M-Mary. [ oh god what does she do. ]
no subject
[ hiccup's just teasing. toothless… is just watching. well, now sniffing.
good thing his owner can recognize Dragon Nervousness, because he's offering some helpful words: ]
Relax, he won't hurt you. [ and, just to demonstrate, he moves to place a hand right above toothless's nose. ] Try this.
no subject
no subject
[ and, when she does that, he'll remove his. toothless leans into her hand a tad, shutting both eyes. ]
Step one. That's to show that he can trust you. Though... I guess it's more like you can trust him, in this case. [ a small smile.
now, hiccup positions his hand underneath toothless' chin, making a scratching motion but not quite touching any scales. ]
Step two. Give him a scratch right here.
no subject
But Mary holds her tongue this time, hesitating only so slightly as she moves her free hand underneath the dragon's chin. The feel of scales beneath her fingertips brings up... something nostalgic, almost like a very old memory, but she pushes the thought aside and scratches tentatively. ]
Like this?
no subject
obviously, he's a giant dragon nerd. ]
Are you sure you haven't done this before?
