You Don't Stand a Ghost of a Chance

You were always warned about the little things that go bump in the night, but you didn't believe them, did you? After all, ghosts don't exist, and things aren't really out to get you in the dark. As the month draws nearer to its final days, however, you're going to want to double check that belief of yours.

On the eve of the 20th, continuing on, you'll feel the signs. It'll begin with a flicker, something barely noticeable. Conveniently, that day, the cinemas will start showing some creepy movies (maybe you'll have seen similar ones back home, or have you?) and you can access Ceres' TV stations- amazing show and movie line-up on their devices or TV screen. All seems to be normal, really... except for the weather that seems somewhat chilly and dismal throughout, with chances of storms every now and then. 'tis the season to be spooky, after all. It's just the weather being weird...

Until you get the feeling that something is in your house... and you sure as heck didn't invite it in.

How will you know? Well, you might hear it, whispering in your ear, or maybe see it as just appearing as part of that movie, or on a Holo-screen you're walking by, and disappearing as quickly as you hear or see it...

"You'd better not shout, you'd better not cry, you'd better not pout NoT TeLliNg YoU whY Gonna taste you, spit you out, smell you soon YoU STINKy LOuT. Hope you like the company. We've been dying to meet you."

//SCENARIOS.EXE
PHASE I
[ xx:xx ] Your first day will go normally enough, even if some things at work or school will behave a little oddly. Nothing too major, but enough to give you a sense of unease through the day.

The real fun begins when the evening is in full swing, because things will feel even worse than before. Objects will disappear and reappear in the wrong places, your HoloGM at home or the workplace will decide to suddenly flicker into strange shapes and frightening objects before turning to normal, and who threw that lamp??

If you were planning on spending an evening of peace, well. We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but... on the positive side, there's a fun stream of spooky shows to watch?! Just ignore the possibility of someone joining you... or not. Ignoring a guest isn't nice, you know. Will you run into the arms of a lover or friend, or run and hide? The choice is yours.
PHASE II
[ xx:xx ] You're going to really not like what comes next, deep into the hours past 3 a.m. Hope you're not a cranky sleeper, because you may want to be up for this. Your Cerevice will blink a strange message that will merely read "W A R N I N G" and flicker to normal before you feel that your privacy has been completely compromised.

Or at least haunted.

Because the next thing you know? Ghosts. Lots of them. And they're not going to wait before giving you chase and letting your senses take the hit. Of course, you might just get lucky and not be visited by any of the ghosts at all- but then again, things will just continue to make you jumpy and spook you out throughout the time the others suffer. Hope you weren't counting on a lot of sleep. And as for those of you who will eventually become victims of your unfriendly visitors, well... hope your friends are around to help. Your CereVice certainly will.
PHASE III
[ xx:xx ] What a rotten week. If you haven't been visited by your ghosts of eternal damage, you're going to have a nasty week at work with things going wrong and everything just points at you. If you have been hit by a ghost, you're going to be suffering the after-effects throughout. The good news is, your CereVices will do their best to compensate for what you did lose. You can voice activate them or touch activate them, or have them give you textual directions. Your healer friends however, can come in very handy and attempt to fix you up- and may even succeed! Though some effects may be stronger than the rest. Even ViViD will have some intriguing new stages that may put your recent condition into focus and have you work through them to gain a better boost.

Just don't be surprised if it isn't entirely effective, but hey, remember when we said having friends is a good thing? Hope you've been making some, because they might just be the only chance you have against suffering this alone.
PHASE IV
[ xx:xx ] As the week draws to a close, the effects of the hauntings will start to wear off, and surprise and joy, things will seem normal again. People won't be experiencing any irritations and jumpy situations at home anymore, and all will be well.

Then night will fall and they'll come again.

For those of you who were lucky enough to escape, the only trouble you'll have is the screams of horror and the frightening situations your friends are in (did we mention you had to make friends?)- you may have to get out of bed to help, hunt around- and probably put your life on the line.

Because those that did get affected, will be dragged into a place of horror and fright, of shivers and quivers- Vidia's Secret: Premium Lingerie to suit all tastes. A beast of horrifying proportions awaits there, ready to tear your friends from limb to limb, so we do hope the captives are prepared to fight, or die trying.
PURGATORY
[ why:o'clock ] You died while fighting against the final boss. Sucks, but it happens. That's why you're here, after all. There isn't much, but make yourselves at home. The surroundings will look pleasant enough, little recovery huts with some cute digital medics of all types waiting in there to help you out. After about 12 hours in Ceres time, the characters will step out of ViViD and be given gift bags with "You Tried" stars on them, each containing a sexy set of lingerie (and animal onesies for anyone below 16) and pampering materials like bath bombs, chocolates, candles and shampoos to take the trauma off the last few days. For those that survived, they'll be getting the same, as well as "Well Done!" stars on their bags (and an extra massage coupon)- and all parties will recieve a little note contained within reading: "We're sorry, have some gifts. You can blame one of your own for being too curious, though. Remember to read the instructions next time, and don't go on witch hunts!"

For those exploring Purgatory, just relax and enjoy the view. Also, your characters might have woken up wearing the lingerie or onesies during their "recovery treatment"... we're sorry they're the only clothes they'll get until they leave. :(
[ Remember to apply proper warnings on threads with trigger-y or inappropriate material and do let a mod know if your thread careens off into maiming or canoodling so we can lock the log. ]

iii-i ... LMFAO

[ Zara is on his way back from a particularly stressful day at work - not having working ears is incredibly annoying when you're a rabbit - when he runs into Oz. Normally, he'd be happy to see him, but, once again, he has to go through the pain of explaining what's happened to himself, and he can't read lips well enough to tell what Oz is even saying.

Sadly, that also means he doesn't notice anything off. Instead, he just reaches into his breast pocket and pulls out a small pad of paper and a pen. On it, he writes in an elegant script: ]

I cannot hear.
harepiece: (PEONS)

ZZZZARA

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-12-24 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[ZARA... But oh boy there sure are a lot of deaf nerds wandering around here, huh? Ghozt leans over to peer at the pad once it's held out, expression shifting into one of understanding. Zara won't be able to hear it, but he'll be able to see the "oh" that follows.

TIME FOR TECHNOLOGY TO SAVE THE DAY. Out comes the CereVice again (which this rude shit will later use to laugh at Ciel's message with), and he types out a message quickly, with well-practised ease. Apparently Oz has adjusted very quickly to technology here?!]

Your ears were damaged?

[By a rude shrieking ghost or something, perhaps??]
sewayaku: (2hot4me)

[personal profile] sewayaku 2014-12-25 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
[ look at you with your fancy technology!! damn kids. Zara seems surprised to suddenly feel his phone buzzing in his pocket, jumping just a little bit, but he fishes it out quickly. Oh, right. You can send messages that way. He didn't even think about it.

Zara looks sheepish for a moment, but then responds in kind, though it takes him a few moments to type out a message. ]

Yes. I don't know what happened.

Was something the matter?
harepiece: (smiling fondly at nerds)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-12-25 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[HE'S ON TOP OF THE TECHNOLOGICAL WORLD hurry up Zara don't get left behind with the grandpas...]

Not with me. So many strange things have happened that I wanted to see if everyone else was okay.

[Like the totally caring person he is and all!!]
sewayaku: (okaaaaaaay)

[personal profile] sewayaku 2014-12-27 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
[ how kind of you, Oz... He glances up from his phone to offer Oz a sheepish smile, nearly apologetic, before going back to henpecking. ]

Unfortunately, no. Almost everyone in my home is afflicted with something.

[ except Elza, that lucky lion. ]

You are well?
harepiece: (new world order)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-12-27 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
[It's a shame that Zara and his henpecking is WASTED on Ghozt, since he both A) does not care about Zara's home and B) does not care about Oz. But he'll text back anyway with a cheery:]

Very! I feel better than ever.

It's a shame about the others, though.
sewayaku: (A CAN OF FIZZ)

[personal profile] sewayaku 2014-12-28 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
[ zara can't even tell anything is off... pay more attention, grumpy buns. Mostly, he just feels like this is an extremely bizarre way to talk to someone who's right in front of you - but there's not much he can do about it. It is more convenient than a notepad. ]

It is. I cannot tell what is wrong with them.
harepiece: (PEONS)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-12-28 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
[GRUMPY BUNS NO...

But this works out better for Oz's rudeass ghost, at least, so he sure isn't complaining.]

Deaf, maybe? Some people seem to be blind, too. Or are they behaving strangely?
sewayaku: (lightly grated cheddar)

[personal profile] sewayaku 2014-12-29 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
My master has become a ghost.

[ Zara is not sure how else to put it. Apparently, Nesso is still around, but completely invisible and untouchable. He can be heard... but that doesn't do much for Zara. ]
harepiece: (believe in yourself)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-12-29 09:11 am (UTC)(link)
[WHAT A COINKYDINK... TRULY TRAGIC.]

Oh? That's a shame, too. I wonder if he's tried to contact you?
sewayaku: (i am not impressed)

[personal profile] sewayaku 2014-12-30 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
[ SO COINCIDENTAL, WOW... YOU WOULDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THAT WOULD YOU OZ ]

He's able to speak with one of my roommates. It's merely difficult due to my deafness.

[ which sounds... absolutely bizarre. All he can do is shrug sheepishly at Oz. ]
harepiece: (PEONS)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-12-30 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
[OZ IS AN INNOCENT FLOWER WHO KNOWS NOT WHAT'S HAPPENING.]

It sounds inconvenient for both of you. I couldn't even imagine how frustrating it would be, following someone around without them being able to hear or see or touch you.

[Ghozt shrugs too, though it's less sheepish and more nonchalant.]

It would be better for everyone if this passes quickly, right?
sewayaku: (ojoo somo...)

[personal profile] sewayaku 2014-12-31 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
[ at that, he nods rather ruefully. On top of Nesso losing his presence, Mary was blind... At least Elza was left unharmed, or the four of them would be a pretty pitiful group - if they were even functional. ]

I imagine so. He can speak to our other roommates, at least.

Yes, I hope this passes quack lye.

[ ... wait, what. ]

I meant quickly.

[ thank goodness autocorrect is there for technologcially-impaired zara ]
Edited 2014-12-31 06:26 (UTC)
harepiece: (so don't turn back)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-12-31 08:50 am (UTC)(link)
[The glories of the technological age... "Oz" has never really stopped smiling since their conversation started, but he definitely looks more amused at that.

But because this ghost is feeling like being a little shit, it will helpfully ease Zara's concerns with some information!! Information always makes people feel more at ease, right??]

I heard that when things go wrong here, it can last weeks.
sewayaku: (NOW YOU FUCKED UP)

[personal profile] sewayaku 2015-01-01 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
Truly?

[ woah, stop the presses. Understandably, Zara looks very alarmed by that suggestion - he looks up from the screen to Oz and his (somewhat eerie) smile, concern written all over his face.

Weeks without hearing? How is he supposed to cope with that? ]
harepiece: (new world order)

[personal profile] harepiece 2015-01-01 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oz just nods, since Zara doesn't need hearing for that! He sure doesn't seem concerned, though.]

If they hold to the same pattern, anyway. Maybe it'll last longer this time.
sewayaku: (lightly grated cheddar)

[personal profile] sewayaku 2015-01-03 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
Please don't say things like that.

[ you can practically see Zara wilting... actually, you kind of can, since his ears droop. There's no way he can go on like this for that long. ]
harepiece: (the good medicine)

[personal profile] harepiece 2015-01-03 08:34 am (UTC)(link)
[SAD BUNNY IN THE COLD... Ghozt isn't going to help things, as promptly demonstrated.]

Isn't it better to be prepared for the worst? After all, we don't even know if this will be reversible.
sewayaku: (ojoo somo...)

[personal profile] sewayaku 2015-01-04 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
If that's the case, I will find a way to reverse it.

[ he didn't know Oz was such a cynical kid. ]
harepiece: (believe in yourself)

[personal profile] harepiece 2015-01-04 08:37 am (UTC)(link)
What if there isnt a way?

[WHAT IF IT'S STRAIGHT UP IMPOSSIBLE what then nerd??]

There's no way of knowing for sure. You might just be stuck trying and failing
sewayaku: (NOW YOU FUCKED UP)

[personal profile] sewayaku 2015-01-06 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
[ finally, he lowers his phone, looking at Oz with a furrowed brow. His expression is questioning - why is he being so pessimistic? Beyond pessimistic - sardonic to the point of almost threatening, with that smile on his face. Did he have some reason to believe that Zara would fail? Because Zara doesn't appreciate being talked to in such a manner, servant or not.

There's no typed reply this time; just a puzzled stare. ]
harepiece: (so don't turn back)

[personal profile] harepiece 2015-01-06 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
["Oz" will then rudely decide to just not text back his next reply, if only because this reaction is pretty dang hilarious and he's hoping that by obtusely refusing to accommodate his deafness, it'll rile him further.]

Is something bothering you?

[Zara probably doesn't need to hear what he's saying to understand the gist of it, though... It's pretty obvious in his expression and the way he holds his hands out to the sides, an open WHAT OF IT PUNK sort of gesture.]
sewayaku: ([ruffles flutter angrily])

[personal profile] sewayaku 2015-01-06 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
[ Zara gets the message. This all seems quite unusual for Oz, but he'd only met the boy twice before, and in unusual situations - it's clear that there was more to him than just friendliness. Narrowing his eyes, he shakes his head, ears laid back, then starts typing out another message. ]

What's gotten into you?
harepiece: (im so ready for this event)

[personal profile] harepiece 2015-01-06 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
[WHAT INDEED gosh Zara...

He holds up his CereVice again, but it takes a second for him to type anything out since he seems to be distracted by something slightly behind and off to the side of Zara, TRUE HORROR MOVIE STYLE. The smile that follows is pretty unpleasant-looking.]

Nothing

I'm just preparing for the worst case scenario

Maybe you should too?
sewayaku: (ojoo somo...)

[personal profile] sewayaku 2015-01-08 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
[ relying on someone's visual cues rather than their voice means he notices that look to the side right away, and, true to his species' nature, he's quick to whip his head around and glance behind him. But... Nothing? ]

To bet on the worst is to set yourself up for failure. You should concentrate on finding solutions instead.
