[open] woah so serious

Who: Everybody!
When: 9 July (IC)
Where: The Sanctuary
What: A follow up to this! Citywide discussion log.
Rating/Warning: None so far! (Please let me know if things should be changed!)

[ the morning of the 9th, everybody should receive a text ]

Hi! I've updated the timeline summarising the recent events here in the colony. Check it out if you have the time, and let me know if there's anything you'd like to contribute!

Also, pizza party later at the Sanctuary. Be there at around 5! There's free food and drinks for everybody. :)

-- Athena Cykes

[ as promised, there's pizza boxes everywhere in the Sanctuary, and one of the tables has an array of drinks being served. there's soda, water, juice, and but nothing alcoholic! this is a serious event, after all, so let's try not to get drunk right now… ah. . . and don't forget to leave your cerevices by the door! this is a ceres-free environment after all.

once enough people are around and seated comfortably, athena tries to call everybody's attention by clapping her hands and yelling OBJECTION! really loudly. and we all know how loud she can be. . . so that's definitely one objective done. ]

So, I guess it's time to talk about that post on the network by that anonymous robot-looking thing. For those who just arrived, this is what I'm talking about. [ and with that, she clicks on a button on the remote control she's holding, and by one of the walls, the text in the said post will be projected. ]

Should we trust that anonymous poster, or should we trust CERES? I doubt there's anybody here who wants to trust CERES of all-- [ well, CERES is not a people, so she just waves a hand dismissively to finish her statement. ] Especially not after all those robots came in and tried to replace the originals.

I think… I want to trust Mosley, though. But nobody here has to share the same sentiment. I don't know much about him, and I'm just following my gut feeling, but-- [ she shakes her head. she can just talk about this further when prodded. she should be providing facts right now, not her opinion. ]

The moment upon arriving in the colony, we were fed information that the Flamines consumed our worlds - but we all know that's not true, either. After all, there are people here who have been able to go back home for a few days. From most of our experience with the Flamines, they're after CERES too, but at the same time, they've been working together. Or they used to, anyway. For those who don't know, the ocular implants we have are by the Flamine Federation. But now, the Flamines are after CERES because they have a debt to pay.

[ she glances around the room now, trying to look at everybody in the eye. ]

Tellus, in this case, are the following parties: The Bridge, and the four "Gods". [ air quotes included. ] Maris, Caeli, Occidi, and Ardeo. The Bridge was once held captive by CERES, and she was released by some people here. To thank them for what they did, The Bridge brought us to the jungle—her "home" and let us stay there for about a week or so. It wasn't exactly the best experience, but there aren't a lot good experiences here in the first place.

I could talk more about the parties in this post if asked, but for now, I want all of us to decide what to do with this announcement. I'd like to investigate all these parties, if possible, including Occidi, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Information and facts are our best weapon right now, after all.

So, if anybody else has something to say about all this, feel free. The floor is yours. And if there's anything you can offer, or if you know anything else, please share it with everybody. I know there's not any information I know that I would hide from anybody here.

[ awkwardly, she just shuffles away and takes a seat on one of the nearest sofas, hoping somebody would speak up and give their two cents. ]

[Once he's done addressing the room, Kouha approaches, waving a hand quickly in greeting before he speaks.]

We're sure as hell no kingdom, Zihuan. We're just a group of prisoners who've got not choice but to work together, so let's not kid ourselves.

[He rolls his eyes, because they both know that no real kingdom has ever been quite this shoddy or haphazard and managed to last more than a week.]

I think you've got the right idea, though. We're never gonna get anywhere at all if we don't get organized. People seem like the only resource we've got, so we need to use 'em right.

[hiii Kouha hiii]

Even if we prisoners split along ideological lines, separate camps can still work together as allies toward the end goal. [oh how well he knows this...] The unfortunate point we sit at is that while we all agree we need to get organized and investigate our options, no one seems willing to step up and be a leader. [harrumph!] Perhaps they are all too kind to rule others.
roughcut: (But get that ice or else no dice!)

[personal profile] roughcut 2016-05-21 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
[That gets a small smile out of Kouha.]

The real problem with pickin' a leader is the way people walk in and out of this place without any warning. New guys don't know who's reliable, and the older ones don't want to trust the new with plans 'cause they haven't proved themselves. We've got to find a way to pick so both sides are satisfied enough to get to work without any more division.

[Because like hell is he suggesting a vote or something. He's not supporting a democracy here.]

You thinking of doing it?
pure_havoc: (smirk)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2016-05-21 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
[ugh no not voting. That never gets you anywhere!]

I might. [smirking back at him.] That is, if I am permitted. After all, a leader cannot be a leader if no one follows him.

That said, there are several who seem to have the situation well in hand, with whom I may work well. Lady Athena, for one. Chibi, for another. They've been around longer, so if you are correct and people would rather not follow someone they hardly know, it would be worth it to push someone like them into the role.

[but let's be real here, he wants to be Lord again, even if it's largely ceremonial]
roughcut: (You weren't born of our blood)

[personal profile] roughcut 2016-05-25 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
[A man after his own heart.]

If those are who you're up against, you might have a problem...

[It's a struggle not to laugh, because in any other situation, he'd put all his money on Cao Pi. But here, the rules are completely different, so he's not sure how it'll go.]

I think you know what you're doing, but they're the ones already runnin' the show. Might be worth getting in with them if you haven't already, if only to make sure things go smoothly, right? Somebody has to make some decisions, if we're going to do anything besides scuffing our feet and moaning.

[He pauses, thinking for a second. Maybe too many cooks could spoil the pot here.]

Just one somebody at the very top, though. Don't want to end up with factions down the line or anything.
pure_havoc: (sultry smirk)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2016-05-25 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yes, factions...not mentioning that he's already considering artificially creating factions to lull CERES into a false sense of security]

I have spoken extensively with both of them. They are decent people. I don't know if either of them are even interested in leading, or if anyone else has an eye on that position. You are correct, though, Master Kouha - if someone doesn't step up, nothing will be accomplished.
roughcut: (Though you're bored beyond belief)

[personal profile] roughcut 2016-05-26 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
[Just take care not to let them become too real, friend...]

It ain't going to be me, so I'll just be backing you up, if it comes down to it!

[He laughs and shakes his head. He's not at all afraid of taking responsibility, but he's way more interested in taking care of things he knows he can handle. He's way too new and ignorant of what's going on in this place to even put his name out there.]

It'd be a good idea to have them back up whoever does get the position, if they don't want to try. Helps make things seem like they won't change too much when the reliable people hang around, you know?

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2016-05-27 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I'm well aware. Your support is appreciated, though.

[he's got this, Kouha, but it's good to have the Ren brothers at his back.]
roughcut: (I can't really help it)

[personal profile] roughcut 2016-05-28 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
You got it!

[He jokingly salutes, but he pauses afterwards with a question in mind. Now, just how to word it...]

Hey, even if you don't get put in charge, I gotta ask. What do you look for in a spy? I doubt I've got what it takes, but I wanna know what to keep an eye out for.

[He's much too loud and in-your-face to really be useful that way, at least to his knowledge, but this is outside of his own purview. It seems like a useful tidbit to know for the future.]
pure_havoc: (sultry smirk)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2016-05-29 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
A spy? [hmm!] Usually someone with previous experience in stealth missions, or at the very least the training to do so. Here, there may be additional skills required, such as being able to disable the technology or use it to search for information.

[his smirk comes back] Being able to bluff one's way out of being caught is also a valuable skill to have.
roughcut: (Please don't wake me now)

[personal profile] roughcut 2016-05-31 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
[As the list goes on, Kouha nods. He's starting to get the picture.]

Huuuh. I think I get it. The same kind of skills you want in an assassin, then.

[He has a lot more experience with killers than spies, so that rings a few familiar bells.]

Surprised "willing to die for the cause" ain't on the list, though.

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2016-05-31 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
[Cao Pi's eyes close briefly] I am not in the habit of sending valuable assets needlessly to their deaths. It is a waste of resources to have to find another good spy.

[he's ruthless but he's not...heartless. Usually.]

I don't care if resurrection is possible here, it is hardly foolproof. That said, I would not ask a sacrifice of anyone unless I were also willing to make it - which, I am. Yet, it is wiser to use every ounce of skill and strength to complete a mission alive - time may be of the essence, and time wasted hoping for someone to return from the dead may result in complete failure.
roughcut: (Oh; I'm lost with everyone)

[personal profile] roughcut 2016-06-02 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not really what I meant. It's not like I want to send people off just to die, either!

[He's a bit offended that Cao Pi would think that first, so he makes an effort to clarify.]

But if it comes down to them getting caught and either letting themselves be tortured or dying before that happens... Which kind of person would you rather have picked, you know? The resurrection bit just gives us another level of back-up.
pure_havoc: (head down)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2016-06-03 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
[ah yes, that helps, thanks Kouha]

I would pick a person with the intelligence to know their options, weigh them well, and choose what's best. It is difficult to say whether our wretched captors would even let someone get away with a sacrifice. Better to have someone with the capability to think beyond the typical than someone who panics and falls on their sword prematurely.

That said...yes, I think anyone going into this venture in any capacity must be prepared for the possibility that they could be killed at any point. Tacticians and commanders included.
