[ rejoice, o denizens of this colony, for should your hunger guide you to McCERES on this, the most normal of days, you will be able to experience one of the following options: ]

a.)

[ Your friendly notorious mime mascot is here today, although this one is noticeably shorter than the one you may have encountered before. The outfit and head both seem a little large, so this mime is walking somewhat awkwardly, but still making its nightmarish way towards you to hand you a flyer detailing all of the deals going on right now. You may have to help it, because apparently it can't seem to hand you the paper properly; either it'll wave the paper past your face or directly in your face.

Once you've accepted it, it bends in half a little and will shuffle off, leaving you to your peace and the regathering of your sanity and well-being.

... At which point the stuff of nightmares will smack into a table and fall over with a very muffled yelp. ]


b.)

[ Well, that sure was an... odd meal! Or maybe you're coming to check this place out, but either way, right outside is Mime Mascot Junior, floundering after two teenaged boys.

Why?

Because they've hijacked Mime Mascot Junior's head and are playing Keep Away, and the one desperately trying to reach up and free it is none other than a very disheveled and frazzled-looking fourteen-year-old girl that you may or may not find familiar. ]

Give it back! I-it's not funny!

[ but you can laugh, anyway. ]

[ Thank god, the mime is gone. Four hours later, Mary can be found slumped outside of McCERES, apparently trying to summon up the energy for the walk home. She's actually been trying to do this for a good thirty minutes. Kids, and ballpits, and customers will do that to a girl. Sadly, she looks as though she's been through quite the battle, and if you come closer, you can hear some tired muttering. Namely: ]

How do people do this every day...?

[Tenka has no patience for little shits besides being King Little Shit himself.

So it's probably why he's kind of just automatically catching the Mime Mascot Junior's head and proceeding to kick one of the snots in the gut. Then he's quick to turn and smack the other teenaged boy right upside the head.]

Hey, punks!! You think this sort of thing is funny - do you feel like a champ?! Better scram before I hurl you right off this planet!

[Which is enough to make them both freeze up and start running because Tenka's basically 300% in protective mode at the moment.]

[ She'd been so convinced that she could take it. And maybe this was bringing back memories of a time long ago, one she'd tried to shove down. And if it had been anyone else coming to her rescue, Mary likely would have been fine.

But this is the man who'd called her family, and he's so angry, and as she watches him drive them off, Mary's very slowly tearing up. ]

A-Aniki...

[When Tenka turns back to her, he's already settled down. He gets loud and abusive easily but it's really not his default mode by any means. So when she's tearing up, he's putting the mascot head on the ground and easily scooping her up into his arms in a hug, mascot costume and all.]

Hey, Mary-chan! Aniki's right here.

Sorry, did that scare you....?

N-no-- [ because she's a teenager, and teenagers don't get scared of bullies-- but she plunks her head on his shoulder and takes a deep, shuddering breath. ]

I'm not afraid of bullies.

[sunshrouded]

[ . . . . oh sweetheart. He just runs his fingers through her hair soothingly then, hugging her close as best he can even when she's in a costume.]

It's okay....

It's not a bad thing to be afraid. But Aniki's here to keep you safe, alright?

[immobileyes]

[ It's hard to hug him back like this, but Mary will certainly try. And, you know, try to mop up her eyes. ]

But I have to try... S-Sousei-san said if I wanted to be valuable to people, I had to find a way.

[sunshrouded]

[Ah, Sousei.... Tenka just chuckles faintly at that, fondly. Yeah. That does sound like his partner. But his words to Mary are even fonder.]

And look! You're doing such a good thing. I think what you're doing is plenty valuable. Sousei would appreciate it too.

But it's gonna be hard sometimes - like with those dummies who messed with you.... but you're strong. You can ask for help until you can work through it on your own, okay?

[immobileyes]

I didn't ask for it, though... [ with a soft, semi-huffy sigh. ] Aniki, you really came out of nowhere.

[sunshrouded]

[ . . . . p-pfffft. He laughs at that then and sets her back on her feet, even if he doesn't let go of the hug just yet.]

Ahah.... Alright, I'll give you that.

But what was I supposed to do?! I couldn't let those dumb guys keep picking on my precious family!

[immobileyes]

[ That's fine, a hug is more than fine-- ]

I know... thank you. [ even though she has to grow, she still appreciates the help. ]

[And that just makes Tenka's gaze soften.]

Do you want me to wait until you say you need help next time? No promises but I can try if you really wanna do it on your own first.

[so like. a five second maximum waiting time....]

Yes. I can't always be protected... I-I know that.

[ she'd been lucky. ]

[sunshrouded]

[ . . . . hm. Tenka moves his hand to pat her on the head then, even as he bends down to try to look her in the eye.]

I don't know how that thought got put into your head. Aniki will always protect you. That's what family does.

... but I also think that you can be really strong, Mary-chan. So if you don't want me to come rushing in every time, I'll do my best to avoid that too.

[immobileyes]

You think...? [ she trails off, her sentence turning into pensive silence. To her, Tenka is amazing and strong. And he thinks she can be strong, too? ]

... I guess if you were in trouble, I'd want to come running, too.

[sunshrouded]

That's just how family is. [And he grins, pleased.] You'll always want to protect your family - it's just what happens.

But I also think that sometimes you need time to learn things on your own to grow.... So if you want me to, I'll try to give you that time to grow. Because you're a lot stronger than you think, Mary-chan.

[immobileyes]

... Thank you. A-as long as I know I'm not alone, I think I'll be okay.

[He's certain of that much, hence why he's going to give her a perfectly sunny smile.]
