![]() A few weeks prior to December 26th, an invitation went out to all whom already reside in Cerealia. In delicate, curling script, it read: You are cordially invited by Natalia L.K. Lanvaldear to a Winter Ball to be held on the Eve of December 26th in the Gardens. Dress in your best attire and enjoy a magical evening of dance and fine cuisine. What do you mean we should fuss about worlds being destroyed? Get into the holiday spirit, you scrooge! And in regards to the new-comers: whether you have been wandering Cerealia over the course of the past few days and managed to receive one of the later waves of invitations or have simply suddenly appeared in the gardens with nothing but the (hopefully…. appropriate….) clothes on your back, welcome. The gardens have been transformed through the work of

actual nerd tadashi hamada
[ . . . . . ]
I see.
[ . . . . hm. Well, she can at least be a good hostess--]
Then perhaps I can treat you to something to eat while you form your opinion?
no subject
Alright. Maybe a light snack wouldn't be so bad. [ And again-- ] Thank you.
[ Then it hits him. She saved him and whatnot, and he didn't even ask for her name. ] And I should have done this sooner. [ If he had his hat on, he'd be fixing that now out of sheer awkwardness. ] I'm Tadashi Hamada.
no subject
Though when she says his name, it's slowly, as if trying to get everything to sound the same as he did-]
Tadashi.... [Okay, she thinks she got it. A firm nod and a smile for him.] My name is Natalia. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance -- though I do wish it had been under better circumstances.
[tentacle tree.....]
no subject
Just think of it as a memorable encounter.
[ It really was memorable, but not exactly in a positive way. He laughs at his own joke. ]
no subject
[Though at least she does look more amused...]
I just hope it's not memorable in the sense that it'll haunt you. Am I wrong to assume that you're not particularly used to encountering dangers and monsters?
no subject
Not in this way, no. In comic books, sure. Real life?
[ he rolls his eyes before shaking his head. ]
Nah. Monsters don't exist, unless you make them on your own. As for anything dangerous, well... they're nothing like a tree whose branches can move that way, that's for sure.
no subject
Comic books.... I see....
[No, she doesn't. What's a comic book?
Anyway--]
But I suppose where I come from, trees that move and try to eat people are typically classified as monsters in our bestiaries.
no subject
The closest we have to something like that is a plant called the venus flytrap. But it only eats insects, from what I know.
no subject
[She hums thoughtfully as she tries to recall--]
Well , the tree monsters in my world that are able to crawl about and try to attack you with their root arms before eating you. Treants are truly awful things.
Thus far, I haven't seen any here at least.
no subject
I'll have to pass on those. Hopefully, no mad scientist decides to make a potion that'll turn the trees here into those.
no subject
Ah... well, I'm never quite sure what CERES has in mind... but I'll hope for the same. There are too many civilians here for that...!
no subject
[ He doesn't mean to make fun of her, but he can't help but bring it up again— ] Though I'm pretty sure your Artes will be of greater help if it ever comes to that.
no subject
Absolutely. What kind of person would I be if I have the power to help people and didn't follow through?
no subject
That's really good to hear. I mean it.
[ It really does relieve him that there are people who actually want to help in this world. ]
no subject
Is it...? I would think that anyone who has the capability to help tends to do their best to do so.
no subject
I dunno. This is looking at it at a more general point of view, but there are people who use their intellect for selfish purposes.
no subject
[ . . . . Well, she has one person in particular in mind. One person who had recently arrived here from her world and regularly drives her up the wall. Hm.]
... Well, if nothing else, those people are rare, are they not?
[Don't let there be more Jades in the world.]
no subject
Rare, huh? I guess so.
[ He wouldn't want any more Hiros in the world, either. Too troublesome. ]
Anyway - [ He looks around at the party. ] I'll be fine here. I'm sure the other guests would love your company.
[ As appreciative as she is of Natalia's help (and he really is!), he wouldn't want to hold her up too long when they barely know each other. ]
no subject
Don't mind her if she just curtsies politely though - even if she refrains from bowing her head. A weird pride thing.]
Very well then. May you enjoy the rest of your night, Tadashi. Don't hesitate to call if you need anything else. [A pause and she laughs faintly.] And once you decide whether this is reality or not, do let me know.
no subject
Don't worry, I will for sure.
