Who: Kousetsu Samonji (
heiwana) & Tenka Kumou (
sunshrouded)
When: Before the intro log
Where: Kumounji apartment
What: Bonding!
Rating/Warning: None~
[ It's in the wee hours of the night into morning that Kousetsu will rouse from his sleep. He's an early bird in general, often taking to one of the empty rooms to meditate before making breakfast, should Souza not be up yet. But it's strange that tonight he seems to not be alone in his wandering through the house. A very apparent figure lying down on the couch with his Cerevice in hand gets Kousetsu's attention immediately. From there it's only natural that he walks over to the couch, silent and without saying much, before he ends up besides the other man. ]
Tenka-san? Can you not sleep? [ He was often used to such things with Souza and Sayo after all. Nightmares and simply being there for the other two brothers was something he was accustomed to doing. So he knew the signs, symptoms even, of such things. So his face looks worried, well it's hard to tell what worried is on his face, but his frown is deeper than usual. ]

Though admittedly Kousetsu's voice surprises him enough that he manages to drop the Cerevice right on his face-]
Guh--!!
[And then he's rubbing his nose as he looks up at the other man.... and yeah, he can recognize the deeper frown than usual which is why he only offers a smile in return.]
Ah... Yeah, I think I need to dust or something. Something just kept waking me up.
no subject
Dusting...really? ] Was it a...nightmare?
[ Oh my god Kousetsu you can't just ask someone if they had a nightmare or not. ]
That is...something that usually wakes Souza and Sayo up at times.
[ He knows and has dealt with that sort of instance many a time. Waiting and comforting the other two until they managed to break free from the fevered and frantic pace leftover by their nightmares. Kousetsu offered words of comfort and peace to them usually, that always seemed to help. He was grateful that in this place Souza seemed to have them less frequently now. ]
no subject
Nah.... Nothing like that.
[They're memories, not nightmares. Admittedly they're both but Tenka would never admit anything like that to Kousetsu. No, that's too much to lay on the other man's shoulders. It's not as if they're happening that frequently to Tenka anyway.]
Just a rough night. We all have 'em, right?
no subject
...I see. [ But he does understand that. Rough nights in this place are probably commonplace, given what has happened recently. But other things have probably also occurred that Kousetsu was not exposed to. It could, of course, be a number of things keeping Tenka up. ]
...yes that is true. [ A pause then as he thinks for a moment. ] Would you like me to make some tea, Tenka-san? [ Tea helps calm ones nerves right? And there's no way he's going back to bed now of course. ]
no subject
If you wouldn't mind! I didn't wanna make an entire pot for myself, you know?
[And one way or another, he gives Kousetsu a larger, brighter smile at that. At least he's gotten practiced at putting those together whenever he has to.]
no subject
...I will go and make some then. [ He is at least used to using the stove top now. ]

[Tenka offers, so chipper as if he's not looking for company more than Kousetsu is probably. Alas, Tenka has a tendency to get lonely way too easily. So instead, he hops up to take a seat on the counter by the stove, with a small grin.
Then he manages a glance out the window and.... hums thoughtfully.]
Hey Kousetsu-kun, you ever think about the sunrise?
no subject
...the sunrise? [ Hm. He nods solemn and yet a rather apparent peaceful aura is exuded from him. The sunrise was one of his favorite times of the morning. ]
Yes. Sometimes, back in the Citadel, I used to get up to watch it in the mornings before the others woke up. It was proof that world we were fighting to protect was not yet consumed by war or darkness. It resembled the colors of the flowers in bloom in the gardens as well. The sun rising was...calming and easy to meditate to.
[ Looks back at the other. ] Even if this is a different sun, I still find great pleasure in watching it rise up every day.

I don't know if you ever saw Otsu in Shiga Prefecture, Kousetsu-kun, but it's a very cloudy place as I know it. Lots of overcast, don't think I've seen the sun in a couple years now -- only whenever I leave my home to go to Kyoto or something for business. So whenever I'm here and we've got this.... this blue sky--
[He blinks as he looks out the window and smiles faintly.]
I just want my brothers to see it... to see how bright and beautiful the world can be. It'd be nice if the sun could shine over Otsu. I think the people in the town deserve it by now.
no subject
I am sorry that...you have never had a chance to see it back at your home. Perhaps if your brothers arrive here you may show them it. I think they would...be appreciative to see such a sight with their eldest brother.
[ Well that's just Kousetsu and his feelings on the matter. He turns to the tea kettle as it begins to whistle and then he'll go about brewing and pouring the tea. He'll hand a cup over to the other. ]
One's life should not be filled only with sorrow and sadness. I will pray that they are able to see the sky for what it truly is, here or back home.

They're even kinder than I am.... [He's made his mistakes, committed his own type of betrayal, all for the sake of his family. It's hard to regret all of it but some of it....] You're right, Kousetsu-kun. I misspoke. They deserve the whole, wide, beautiful world.
[He blows once on his tea.]
But... even in our prefecture where the sun didn't shine, I don't think anything was filled with sorrow and sadness.... If you ever visit Otsu, I hope you'll see it too. Just how warm and full of kindness it is. We got really lucky.
no subject
Tenka-san...I would like to visit there very much. [ A small brief smile as he takes a sip of his tea. ]
I have only seen the places that my masters have traveled to. [ And even then being a sword as he was he never really saw much of the world around him. ] ...it was only during times of war and fighting. So I...would like to see things as they are without the presence of violence.
no subject
Well... That's a little much... we've got the occasionally ronin and bandit running around, after all. But they always go to the Condemned Prison Gate not too long after, brought over by me or my brothers. It's.... [He pauses, trying to think of how to explain it.]
It's a different time. Shogunate's fallen, swords have been banned, the emperor's been given all the power and we're opening up to outside influences. [He hums thoughtfully, perking up ever so slightly despite his next words.] There's turmoil, I'll give you that. Not everyone's happy with the changes. Sometimes we've got people saying they want to overthrow the government.
But this Japan... it's strong in its own way, I think.
It's growing up. We're learning a lot from the rest of the world and a lot of things probably look weird when you see it from a Western point of view. It's hard to try to be like them and take their technology while at the same time keeping what makes us.... us.
Except that's like any kid learning how to be an adult, right? [He laughs faintly, amused.] So I don't think my time is perfect. Sometimes, I don't even think that Shiga's perfect. But you don't have to be perfect or full of peace to be warm.
I don't think the world's so black and white.
