[He rubs at an arm unconsciously, then shrugs.]

It's not that I don't appreciate the warning and all, and I don't actually think it's all fun and games, but it's just gotta be dealt with no matter what, right?

[he nods—it's a good point, and one he can't contest.]

Yeah. There's not any way of getting around it, I don't think. [sometimes he forgets that other people are more used to this kind of stuff than he is. every day feels like being dropped into an anime for him, and that's something that only sounded cool when he was eight and didn't know how dangerous it really was.]

Better to be ready for it, though. You never know around here—what they'll do, or what'll happen. It's like that.

[He scrubs a hand through his hair, sighing. He's grateful that he's even alive here to have to put up with dangerous situations, and he shouldn't be complaining at at all. Not really.]

Well, it's not the first time I've had to stay on my toes a lot. I'll just make sure I don't start slacking off and I'll try to avoid getting myself into something I can't handle. It might even actually work sometimes, too.

[he lets out a breath that could almost be taken as a small laugh, but nam soon just nods his head.]

Sometimes it does. It's not always trouble, but knowing it can be is better than going in blind. It was like that for a lot of us, the ones who were here at the very start. [they were the guinea pigs, and they didn't have anyone to warn them of the dangers.]

Yeah, I get that. Nobody likes going in without enough information.

[He knows that there are people that have been here longer than him, that much has been obvious already. He's curious, though.]

You've been here a while, then. How long is that, exactly? It's not like I'm exactly eager to go back home, but I guess it couldn't hurt to know what my prospects look like on that front, either.

Six months. It's been about that long since it all started.

If people want to stick their head in the sand and get themselves hurt or killed, that's their problem.

[He really has no sympathy for people that know things can be dangerous but choose to pretend otherwise; it's one thing to go into a dangerous situation willingly and another to ignore the facts.]

Six months, huh? That's not as bad as I thought it'd be, but probably feels like way too damn long already. Good to know, though.

Mmm. You're right about that.

[he finds himself shaking his head every time someone seems to just brush off the terrible things that happen. he knows you can't be doom and gloom all the time, and sometimes you have to relax—but some people show absolutely no concern and embrace the lifestyle, and that baffles nam soon to his core.]

It feels like three years, with the way things go around here. Too much happens, and it's usually a pain. Nobody knows how long it'll last, either.

Even with crap like this happening, it's better than anything back home.

[Literally anything else is better than what would happen if he went back home; being a prisoner here is already better than living, or dying, as one back there.]

I'm sure I'm in the minority on this, but I'm glad nobody knows how long all this'll go on. I don't want the rug yanked out from under me again by leaving here too soon.

[both statements earn an arch of the eyebrow from nam soon; maybe he should expect by now that this place isn't as bad as it could be to some people. maybe he should also expect that his life is by far one of the most mundane of those brought into this mess.
