[ zero is just being rude on purpose. that, and they want to look around. ]

A challenge?

[ the swamp monsters, that is. ]

Sure. [Being rude doesn't exactly deter him, seeing how Hiro can be pretty rude himself.] It wouldn't really be a game if there wasn't some kind of challenge to it. The last couple of games I've been in have had a ton of monsters that were hard to get past. [Give him a moment to reassess what he's looking at here.] Do you even know how to fight?

[Granted, judging by the fact that he just saw them dropkick a doll a good distance, that might be a rhetorical question.]

[ at that, zero straightens up slightly and turns their face to the kid. ]

My occupation involves blood, guts, and gore. Violence—I know it.

[ haiku done, zero leans a little closer, using their height to tower over him. what about you? ]

[Given the fact that they're almost a foot and a half taller than Hiro is, the intimidating factor works a little bit. Hiro doesn't exactly back down but his expression slips into something a little more worried the moment they stop to stare down at him.]

I've had a few months to adjust. Can't be good at my job if I can't adapt, can I? [He sounds mostly sure of himself, but he has a feeling that may not fly so well with them.] Some of the code they revive isn't equip with a ton of skill.

[ zero makes a considering sound, crackly and slightly distorted through their helmet. they rock back on their heels, straightening up once more. ]

What job?

[What the--that's a strange sound, but one he can recognize. That's different.]

Being a hero. [He takes that job very seriously.] It's sort of been my personal mission since I got here to make sure people stay safe. [While simultaneously digging deeper into CERES to pick them apart, but details.]

[faceplate]

[ a hero? zero pauses, then flashes a brief LOL. ]

[Excuse.]

What's so funny?

No such thing as a hero. Are you pretending?

[zerotohiro]

Why would I be pretending something like that? Hate to break it to you, but you're looking at two of 'em. [Him and the robot, he means.]

[faceplate]

Self-satisfaction.

[ zero understands that, but not using heroism as a venue for it. ]

[zerotohiro]

[Well. That struck a bit of a nerve considering how Hiro started out, but:] What I do isn't about self-satisfaction. Why? Is that your motive?

[faceplate]

A challenge.

[ of the kind that zero likes, to be more exact; heroism holds no draw for them. ]

[zerotohiro]

[...suspicious. This is all a little weird but...okay.]

Focus on getting out of the game first and then we can talk all about challenges. Deal?

[ zero would rather talk about challenges now, because challenges. but after a pause, they nod. ]

Which way?

[zerotohiro]

Baymax, scan for exits. [There's a pause as the robot's eyes light up for a moment to scan the area carefully, turning his head in a direction to the left. There will be plenty of time to talk about challenges. Hiro's more interested if they can accomplish this first.]

There is a log-out portal one mile northeast. I have also picked up readings for three large presences north.

Clear enough?

[ zero watches baymax when it activates, head cocked but nothing displaying on their helmet. but it's interesting, they'll admit, if a bit squishier looking than any robots they've seen recently.

given the information, they nod. it's clear, yes, but maybe not trustworthy. as a precaution, they cant their head in the northern direction, waiting for hiro to lead. ]

[zerotohiro]

[Don't judge his robot, Zero. (Okay, he's a judge-worthy robot...) Hiro suddenly clues in that oh, right, he has to take the lead here.]

You really want us to go first? [His tone's dry, but he's not entirely surprised.] Just try to keep up, okay? [It's not long before he and Baymax are in the air a little higher above the swamp, but not high enough to be out of their sight.] Let's go. [With Baymax in flight, he moves forward and paves the way, trying not to go too fast but moving at a decent pace. Come along, Zero.]

[ zero's really not in the practice of turning their back on anyone.

still, they're able to keep up. zero sloshes through the swamp with surprising speed, despite the viscous texture. occasionally they climb over the trees in their way, seeming not to tire or audibly breathe at all. ]

[And that alone is interesting. He can't help but glance down at them every now and then as he and Baymax lead the way in flight, and eventually he can't help it when he leans over the side of his robot to address Zero.]

...don't take this the wrong way, but...how are you keeping up like that? [It's almost weirdly robotic to him.]

[faceplate]

[ zero doesn't even pause, not even tilting their head. after another pause, though, they answer. ]

Skills.

[ yes, that is their serious answer. ]

I've got skills but nothing like that. That doesn't really answer the question dude.

[faceplate]

[ zero looks up at the kid this time, faceplate blank and showing nothing. this is information that they will not share. after a pause, they raise their hands in a shrug. ]

Some things buried are not meant to be unearthed by any explorer.

[zerotohiro]

And if a person happens to dig it up on accident? What then? [He slows down Baymax and lowers closer to the ground, having the robot walk the last few feet to what looks like a stand. It's a log-out portal for the next level, just as he suspected.]

[ zero slows to a stop as well when they reach the portal, taking a moment before replying. ]
