[OPEN] Homework

Who: Sayo and anyone at the swordhaus or Kumonji apartment, residents and visitors!

Where: Swordhaus and Kumonji apartments
What: Sayo is doing his homework and might need some help with it.
Rating/Warning: None! Hopefully.

[The one thing about attending school is being assigned homework to do. Sayo understood the reasoning behind them and dutifully brought his homework back home to do them. As a student, he should try to do his best with his schoolwork and improve his knowledge. The more he knows, the more he can possibly help his brothers, master and his comrades. And who knows, maybe these nuggets of knowledge might help him in the future with revenge…

In any case, Sayo would spend his afternoon after school at either households, depending on how busy the residents are (he would admit to needing help sometimes), and if he feels like visiting Haru and the other swords.

But now, it’s time for him to do his homework...]

► Kumonjis [JAN 30 - 31]
[Sitting at the living room with a box of various persimmon treats opened next to him, Sayo is working on his homework at the table. His cat CYbuddy, Kashuu (yes, Kashu, he named it after the said sword) is curled up next to him while he’s trying to finish his work. Some of them are simple enough for him to understand, but the rest he doesn’t...quite get it…

He looks up from his homework, after being stuck on a problem for a while. And see a person who’s about to walk into the room… and almost step on his caterpillar pet.]

...Please don’t step on him.

[Don’t freak out when you see the caterpillar. He have it for a while, so the Kumonjis should know about it. But for anyone else… well, surprise?

Otherwise, maybe check on what he’s doing?]

► Swordhaus [FEB 1-2]
[Instead of the Kumonji apartment, Sayo decided to do his homework over at where the the other swords are living at. Particularly the apartment his master is living in, so he can ask him for help. His pets are back in the Kumonji apartment, so there’s no pet-related distractions here!

Although, it does seem like he’s having problems with his homework…?]

…? I don’t understand this…

[Help, he’s a revenge focused sword, how does he do this? He looks around for someone to ask for, until he sees you and stares.]

[Dotanuki had only been visiting - mostly to get something to eat that wasn't fried tofu or donuts - when he saw Sayo studying. And then Sayo was staring at him...

Oh, it's that school thing giving him trouble.

Dotanuki wanders over, a bag of beef jerky in his hand and one piece already stuck in his mouth.]

Givin' you trouble, huh?

Sayo looks up at him and nods, before looking down at his homework.]

I don't really understand this question.

Dotanuki takes another piece out of the bag and offers it to Sayo when he sees him looking, then leans against the back of his chair.]

[Sayo accepts the piece of jerky from Dotanuki and brings it to his mouth, lightly chewing a small part of it. He blinks, before he try to take a bigger bite out of it.

With his free hand, he points at a problem. It seems to be a mathematical one. work with me here cries]

I'm supposed to find the answer to this one.

[ah, mathematics. It looks like a word problem, so Dotanuki leans in to read it while Sayo eats ]

Two trains leave different platforms at the same time heading toward each other. If Train A is traveling at 60 miles per hour and Train B is traveling at 75 miles per hour, when will the two trains meet?

[He blinks. ]

What the hell? Why do you need to do that? Shouldn't you just stop the trains?

[After swallowing the piece he's been chewing on, Sayo speaks. Hey, it's rude to speak while eating, okay? And he likes being kind of clear.]

I don't know. This situation is weird. Why do we need to know when they will meet?

What kind of situation where they need to use this specific math calculation to find out?

I guess stopping the trains would cause a lot of trouble?

[He remembers the blackout.]

[He's pretty sure trains shouldn't head toward each other. Won't they collide?

He pulls two more pieces of jerky out of the bag, offering one to Sayo. Eat little, tantou, grow up big and strong.]

Maybe that's the answer? To find out when they're gonna blow up?

[Souji seems to just have woken up from a nap - look, napping at other people's houses is perfectly normal if you've got a permanent invitation - and smiles when he notices Sayo staring at him. The sword might be many, many times older than him, but he still looks young, and Souji has the hugest soft spot for youths.

So he wanders over, peering over the tiny sword's shoulder.]

I was never a very good student, I'm afraid. But maybe we can figure it out together, right?

[Sayo doesn't personally know Souji, but if he's here often and no one complained, that means he's okay by the others. He looks up at Souji and slowly nods.]

...If it's no trouble, I don't mind.

[His homework have a range of questions suitable for students in their 6-7th grade. At least by Cerealia's standards for education.]

[This is already pretty doomed, because Souji isn't joking when he says he was a rather bad student - he's a swordfighting genius, and that's pretty much where his talents lay - and he was also educated during in 19th century Japan, so his knowledge probably doesn't match what's on the paper.

Then again, Sayo is a sword, so he's probably still more experienced. Silver lining!

Gracefully sinking down so he can sit next to Sayo, he smiles and shakes his head.]

No trouble at all! What kind of subject is it that's giving you trouble?

[Well, Sayo is old. Whether he's more experienced, however... It depends on what subject you're asking about. Revenge? He knows about that. The arts? Kinda weird for him, and the philosophical/symbolic parts flies over his head.

He points to a word problem.]

It's math.

[A brother left early and walks at (insert X number) speed. His sister runs out at (insert Y number) speed 5 minutes later. How long will it take for her to catch up?]

[Souji wrinkles his brow in honest confusion for a moment. What he doesn't understand is why anyone would ever need to figure this out. He's pretty sure Mitsu wouldn't have bothered with it back when he was still living with her - catching up with someone who is walking doesn't take that long, but it probably takes longer if you try to do math to figure it out first.

Still, he'll do his best. Overturning two cups on the table, he puts them down some distance from each other.]

First, we should probably figure out how long the brother- [He taps one of the cups.] -has gotten when she starts running. That's pretty easy, right?

[Honestly, Sayo wonders about that as well. He can understand if it's for counting money and property, but this? Why wouldn't the brother wait for his sister?

Sayo looks up from the math problem and watch Souji turns over the two cups. He nods.]

Yes... So after five minutes, he would be about...

[Hang on, let's see if he can work out that distance. Ummmm.]

[During a day where she was bringing food over, she was about to set up when she sees Sayo having trouble.

The first question in her mind was did he have to go to do the homework? Well, school rules and all, if he's going there to learn and make friends, he probably would have to do this too.]

[Rules are rules, and Sayo doesn't want to cause too much trouble for Haru or his brothers to deal with. Even if he get stuck on them like right now.]

[Fortunately, she's actually pretty decent with maths. MAYBE THEY CAN HOLD ON UNTIL MUTSU COMES HOME.]

Okay. [Once Vietnam's over, he points at the problem. A guessing one? There's a list of clues telling him how to figure it out.]

[THEIR TIME HAS COME.

She sits and then tilts her head once she starts reading it.]

Hmm, so...we are meant to work out what these clues are leading us to?

[Sayo looks at the clues and read them out.]

"It's more than 20. It's less than 40. It's a multiple of 5. It's a multiple of 3."

[You know what, he's had a miserable time of it lately. The tour was not kind to him, but at some point, he's going to have to take care of his clothes.

He was trying not to cross anyone's path as he carried the clothing out, but it seems he was less than successful, because a moment later he senses Sayo's gaze.

...Oh. Uh.]

[After being stuck on a problem, Sayo decided to stop working and looks up while he's snacking on a persimmon and peach crunch bar. And blinked when he saw Sousei carrying... are those clothes?

...Should he ask?]

Sousei-san, what are you doing?

[What the heck are those gunk covering the clothes.]

[....Uh.

Wow, he feels like he's been caught red-handed, somehow....]

... I am throwing away these clothes, as I doubt they're salvageable now.

[Sayo slowly nods, but it didn't get rid of the questioning look in his face.]

Okay. [...] What happened?

... ... ... It happened on the tours.

[Can he just...

Yeah he's edging towards the door.]

[Ah, the tours. The tours he both heard about (such as it happened) and not really heard about (what happened).

And he sees Sousei edging towards the door.]

...Do you need help?

[No, he's not asking just to stop doing his homework because he's stuck.]
