[ It was hard enough, waiting for the water level to go down enough so that Mary could return to where her apartment was (had been) without risk of drowning. Seto's hoodie, the jacket Hiro had given her... they were the only things she'd been able to find at the time, but now she can search for anything remaining from their apartment.

So feel free to come across a tiny teenager over the afore-mentioned days, getting drizzled on and trying to pry up pieces of the smaller rubble - and HNNNNNGHing at the bigger pieces of debris that she can't budge at all - as she hunts about. The stuffed animal she'd received from Lily is gone, the headband from Kaoru and Shiho has been twisted and bent beyond repair when she miraculously finds that... the dried flowers, from the bouquet Elza had given her... no sign of them. All of her tea...

Mary almost wants to cry, but not yet. She just keeps looking.

And don't be alarmed if she seems worn-out when you see her. It's not some weird elemental effect, she's just terrible at stamina. ]

Right. [he nods, but then looks around curiously.] What were you doing out here by yourself, anyway?

[scenting]

[ it's because you're finally going outside, mary! crazy how that works.

but malia looks just as shocked as mary because it isn't... that big a deal... is it? she looks over at the piece of debris in her hand and just... casually shoves it out of the way before lifting her chin a little. ]

Yep. Is that weird? It's not weird.

Hey, no problem! It's the least I can do!

[His strength and stamina are, in fact, about all he has going for him; there's nothing superhuman about them, but hey, he's an athlete. He at least has a leg up on a tiny girl! And he can't resist showing that off just a little in hauling the debris aside and out of the way of--well, whatever Mary was looking for under it. He doesn't see anything when he turns back to look, but it's not hard to figure out what's going on here.]

. . . This was your place, huh? Man, that sucks. I walk past this stuff every day, and it's hard to even picture what it used to look like. You lookin' for something?

[ The mild wariness (and the -san) flows right over Styx like water off a duck's back- he's learned long ago to take what he can get. ]

A few minutes ago- and I was just passing through, before you get any funny ideas. [ Like asking him to help with the heavy lifting, for instance. ] The question is, what're you doing down there?

Huh? This is normally the part where you storm off in a huff or something... [So self-aware.] But, anyway... Go ahead and shoot.

[HE'S ALWAYS HERE TO HELP of course!! Especially when it comes to friends. So, after she begins the countdown:]

Two, three—! [At which point he'll heft up his part! From where he's standing he can't really look under it, but he's holding it as high as he can for her.]

[takes out another umbrella from beneath his coat!! though this one is smaller and more suited to Mary's size]

Here, take this first. Though I have no doubt Zara will take care of you if you get sick, it's better to be safe, right?

This... was my home for awhile. [ And she points down at the UTTER WRECK that she's been futilely digging through. ] So it's got things from my friends... I wanted to try and find them.

And they will be even busier if they have to assist you if you are pinned by falling debris or badly cut yourself on one of these edges.

[Mary pls]

Asking for assistance can be of more worth than not, if you are trying to save people time.

Yeah, you're right. [ Her hair's already going to be curly and annoying just from all this moisture... so she's accepting that umbrella readily. ] And Zara might get mad if I did get sick.

... So don't you get sick, either!

[immobileyes]

I couldn't storm off anyway, I'm busy... [ A soft grumble, but then she straightens up her shoulders, because this is actually an important question. ]

Anyway, have you... noticed anyone acting really tired lately?

[immobileyes]

I'm being careful! Nothing's fallen on me, and I only--

[ She shuts up now, discreetly shifting her fingers into the folds of her dress. Only a bit scraped. It's fine. ]

[immobileyes]

[ ... This man is terrifying.

But so was that, and Mary yelps a bit, scrambling back. How did-- it's really that flimsy?? ]

Tired-- Pfft--

[And in response, he simply laughs like it's a silly question. Well, to him... It was.]

Silly Mary! Everyone gets super tired after going through a disaster!

[immobileyes]

Everything, [ she blurts out-- but even Mary knows how unreasonable that sounds, and quickly waves her hands in front of her. Her gaze lowers to the spot he just cleared up, fingers finding a few stray pink petals when she lowers a hand down. ]

T-that is, the things my friends gave me-- they're all really important to me, but I couldn't take everything out in time...

[immobileyes]

... I told you.

[ SHE DOESN'T LIE... ]

I thought I could do it...

[HE'S THE STRONGEST TANTOU (so far) IN THE ARMY, OKAY.]

... Are you looking for something under there?

[immobileyes]

It's sort of weird. But, um... it's really cool!

[ AND SORT OF SCARY, she probably shouldn't make this person mad. ]

Trying to find things, [ she says, promptly, which says volumes as to how much Mary's grown accustomed to this person. Maybe because he also isn't human, went against the expectations of his species... it's hard to say for certain. ]

[immobileyes]

Yeah! [ She's ducking her head to peer down at whatever's been revealed... but apparently, whatever that is just makes her frown slightly, and she looks back at Oz with a very small sigh. ]

... It's okay. You can put it down now.

[immobileyes]

Oh-- [ There's clear surprise in her eyes when she looks up, but no fear, thankfully-- and she doesn't jerk and bonk a limb on something this time. Edgeworth's strange calm doesn't seem to register as strange, not yet. ]

I was trying to find... some things my friends gave me. I lost a lot of stuff when that thing fell here.

[ Important things, to Mary. ]

[ It's been awhile since she's seen both of them, but they're familiar enough, so Mary's not about to squeak and duck for cover. She's a little too worn out, anyway. ]

I'm looking for things... I used to live here.

[immobileyes]

Yeah. [ A pause, then: ] From my friends...

[ Well, nearly all of her gifts from her friends were under there, in some degree. ]

[immobileyes]

I didn't mean like that! [ HUFF. ] I mean like falling asleep while you're still standing up or something! And besides, Sousei-san was like that before everything got bad!

Ohhhh. That actually is pretty worrying... [He takes a moment to think.] I remember seeing one or two people like that. But I just assumed that they were narcoleptic.
