[ It was hard enough, waiting for the water level to go down enough so that Mary could return to where her apartment was (had been) without risk of drowning. Seto's hoodie, the jacket Hiro had given her... they were the only things she'd been able to find at the time, but now she can search for anything remaining from their apartment.

So feel free to come across a tiny teenager over the afore-mentioned days, getting drizzled on and trying to pry up pieces of the smaller rubble - and HNNNNNGHing at the bigger pieces of debris that she can't budge at all - as she hunts about. The stuffed animal she'd received from Lily is gone, the headband from Kaoru and Shiho has been twisted and bent beyond repair when she miraculously finds that... the dried flowers, from the bouquet Elza had given her... no sign of them. All of her tea...

Mary almost wants to cry, but not yet. She just keeps looking.

And don't be alarmed if she seems worn-out when you see her. It's not some weird elemental effect, she's just terrible at stamina. ]

[This is Edgeworth walking past. He had been scouting for a new place to stay, not wanting to impose on Mabel any further. But he stops at the sight of a head of long white hair crouched down before the debris of the ruined apartments. Instead of gasping and running over to her, he sedately walks over to her, getting down so he's beside her and at her level.]

Mary, what are you looking for? [His voice is...even. Calm. Like a still sea on a clear day.]

[immobileyes]

Oh-- [ There's clear surprise in her eyes when she looks up, but no fear, thankfully-- and she doesn't jerk and bonk a limb on something this time. Edgeworth's strange calm doesn't seem to register as strange, not yet. ]

I was trying to find... some things my friends gave me. I lost a lot of stuff when that thing fell here.

[ Important things, to Mary. ]

[prosecutory]

[Edgeworth nods slowly and looks at the pile of rubble she had been digging through.]

I see. Some tools might be helpful; this won't be an easy job. [Could they borrow a robot or something?]

[immobileyes]

I'm not very good with shovels or anything, though.

[ She dug a grave once, does that count-- ]

[prosecutory]

[He scrutinizes her from head to foot.]

It's a simple tool to use...but a spade might work just as well. [Considering her size.]

[immobileyes]

Oh! I can use that!

[ Garden tools!! ]

[prosecutory]

Perhaps we can borrow one from the landlord.

[Edgeworth didn't keep a garden so he has no garden tools. And well...many of his tools are now reduced to rubble, too.]

[immobileyes]

I don't think I've ever met the landlord.

[ Oops. ]

[prosecutory]

Or from one of the other residents, if anyone here keeps a garden. The landlord may be quite...busy, after all that has happened.

[And despite "all that has happened", Edgeworth is supernaturally calm about it.]

[immobileyes]

... Are you okay? You seem okay, but...

[ Should he seem okay? ]

[prosecutory]

I am, thank you for asking.

[He nods, hardly fazed by Mary's question. Despite everything that happened to him? Yes, he's fine. Somehow.]

[immobileyes]

... Adults are amazing...

[prosecutory]

[That, however, does cause Edgeworth to raise his eyebrows.]

Oh? What makes you say that?

[immobileyes]

No matter what happens, you're always okay.

[ AND SO ZEN?? ]

[prosecutory]

[Way too zen for this world, apparently. He lets out a soft chuckle.]

I wasn't, especially as I felt chronically exhausted last month. But I'm feeling better now, and we can work on rebuilding and repairing the damage.

[immobileyes]

Exhausted... um, were you falling asleep standing up too?? [ YES TELL HER MORE-- ]

[prosecutory]

As a matter of fact, I was. [A beat.] Others were, too.

[immobileyes]

People you knew? Who?

[ She still has to report back to Hiro to try and figure a connection here-- ]

[prosecutory]

Someone on the network - Zack Fair, I believe, and a teenager with whom I outran a wave.

[Unfortunately he didn't know enough about these people to form a connection.]

[immobileyes]

... Thank you. I've been trying to figure out how many people got sick like that...

[prosecutory]

Was anyone you know...chronically tired as I was?

[immobileyes]

Yeah-- um, there was Sousei-san, and Quatre, and Hiro's brother!

[ QUITE A FEW. ]

[prosecutory]

...Sousei was the same way?

[He raises his eyebrows in surprise, not expecting that name to come up in conversation. But surely he's better now, right?]

[immobileyes]

Mm, he fell asleep right where he was.

[ IT WAS KIND OF ALARMING. ]

[prosecutory]

But he is better now, correct?

[Sousei should be, if Edgeworth felt better...and calmer.]
