It is a quiet day in mostly reconstructed Cerealia. The robots are busily running into walls that were not there before, the Cybuddy bees are buzzing...and CERES has still not said a word. Attempting to contact them still gets the User Offline error. Strange...

But who cares if CERES is offline? After all, they are the cruel and tyrannical captors. A Cerealia without them must be better than a Cerealia with them. So there's nothing to worry about on this fine, peaceful day. Or, at least, that's what it seems like, when suddenly there's a voice in everyone's head. A chosen few may recognize the voice, for they will have heard it before, but to the vast majority, it is brand new.

Looks like someone has been saved, and a reward granted... and no, you don't have a single choice in the matter.

Your heroism will be remembered, lost and stolen souls.

You have saved me, and so now, I shall save you.

All of you.

//SCENARIOS.EXE

PHASE I

[ day one ] It happens so quickly. One moment you’re in the colony, going about your daily life, and the next, you’re… floating. A moment later, every player character from the colony is transported with a wisp of fresh air to...somewhere very very different. The distance is far, but it is covered in what must have only been a scant moment, and it’s clear somehow, especially to air characters, that it was Caeli’s doing that brought everyone there.

There, naturally, being right in the middle of the jungle.

Everyone is then unceremoniously dropped. You may land on a tree, or in a patch of poison mushrooms (no really, look out for the colorful plant life, it’s probably poisonous) or in the river. There are some strange insects of all sorts and types, some of which have some uncomfortable side effects if you’re bitten, such as swelling or the uncomfortable urge to go hug the nearest person, and there are strange flowers everywhere, some of which glow only in the dark of night or the shade of trees. It is dreadfully humid, however, and a little hard to breathe--unless you’re of the air disposition.

Either way, you’ve certainly landed somewhere fantastical, so take some time to get used to your surroundings. It shouldn’t take too long to find everyone else, hopefully.

PHASE II

[ day two ] Of course, this far into the jungle, and making this much noise, it was only inevitable before some company was attracted.

Some are clearly dangerous, some are peaceful as can be and some are somewhere in between; approach at your own risk.

Either way, these monsters are all drawn to larger groups of people and a lot of noise, so it may be best to keep quiet...though the ones that keep their distance may be even more concerning.

Everyone is certainly being stalked at one point or another in the jungle -- and at night, there are eyes watching from the darker parts of the trees.

PHASE III

[ day three ] But perhaps if you follow some of those monsters deeper into the woods, you will stumble across an old, run down village of sorts. It looks as though time and the jungle has overtaken it. Exploring it will reveal plenty of homes that were clearly lived in however, by families and by people of all sorts.

There are empty rooms, covered in dust, and a central village fire, long gone out.

Small knick-knacks and various objects can be found… if you want to steal from the dead, you know. It’s a little rude. It appears they led a simple, peaceful life, however; most notably, there is no technology to be found.

And if The Bridge catches you doing it, she will look incredibly sad and ask you to put everything back in its proper place before she goes back to looking very irritated at Caeli. You may overhear words about how this “isn’t the right place” and Caeli’s unrepentant, “It is only a few hundred miles”. Looks like something went a little wrong in the transportation process.

Time to camp out for the night, perhaps. And your CereVices don’t get any reception out here, so no surfing the internet for you. If you try to connect to the internet, for some reason the device starts playing a song. Was that programmed…?

PHASE IV

[ day four ] By the fourth day, it’s pretty clear that you’re going to be stuck here for a bit. Pestering Caeli or Maris gets nothing, while the Bridge still can’t be approached for pretty good reasons. So… you’ll just have to make the best of it while they figure out their next approach.

Time to figure out how to camp with few supplies and even fewer nice places to sleep. Maybe try to make a fire (though it’s incredibly difficult, considering how muggy it is here) or try to find some bugs to eat (ew gross).

Of course, you can try hunting, but the prey doesn’t look too friendly, so be careful not to become the prey yourself. The same goes for fishing, it seems.

Some of the trees are poisonous, some of the grasses will cause unfortunate rashes, and some vines will lash out to grab at people (especially colorful ones); basically, this is an entirely untamed alien jungle, so it may not be the fun camping trip you'd like.

Time to work together to survive out here, at least for a little longer.

It’s your time to shine. This is Person Versus Wild.

PHASE V

[ day six ] On day six, the jungle goes utterly silent.

The monsters and animals disappear. The extra friends poof away hastily and suddenly. Maris and the Bridge fall silent (though Caeli admittedly continues floating there as ever). If anyone approaches them to ask, they'll just say that "she is coming".

And soon, she does appear. She moves slowly, lacking in feet; they are roots, as though that of a tree. Nonetheless, she has no troubles with moving forward, slow bit by bit. She does not speak, not at first, and behind her, trotting lightly through the woods, there is another. Both feel strongly of spiritual energy, just like Maris and Caeli. And eventually, after observing the people gathered, they can be spoken to.

BONUS

[ day ??? ] After spending some time in the jungle, emotions might be running a bit amuck. And those emotions might bring some unexpected...friends. Yes, let's go with friends.

Because if a character is typically grumpy, gloomy, stoic, lineface, or anything along those lines, they may find themselves followed by a bright, happy bird. That bird feeds off of those emotions, and will just cheerfully follow around any lineface character for as long as possible. Or until they smile. The birds are otherwise harmless, chirping happily every now and then and following them around like a friendly shadow.

Happy, cheerful, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, energetic characters, on the other hand, will soon find themselves followed by... a different friend. Or maybe a handful of them. It depends on how cheerful they are. Either way, these creatures feed off of happiness and fun, but they will also chew on hair or an ear if they're allowed to get that close, making horrifying, chittering noises as they follow anyone who is in a good mood.

[That is actually...very sobering. He calms down immediately, giving the Evoker a slightly bemused look.]

Honestly, sir! What is wrong with wands?

[But no, that is the wrong question.]

......Or rather, that evocation method is no accident, is it? How...how can you surrender yourself to death so easily?

[An awkward question, but he lacks the right social skills, especially when he feel off balance. Humans never cease to perplex him, not to mention that the most perplexing human he has ever known chose death over salvation.]

[ Mary. Mary pls. He's not even that physically strong! But he loosens his hold, because he doesn't exactly want to hurt her. Even if she's possessed.

Still hugging, though.
]

... Is it gone?
horsepoop: (ポリポリ)

[personal profile] horsepoop 2015-10-05 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
[VERY TRUE.]

Oh, yes, that's a good idea! We can cook dinner that way, too!

[Namazuo's priorities are clearly in order. Is there even anything safe and edible in this jungle?? LET'S FIND OUT.]
horsepoop: (そう言えば)

[personal profile] horsepoop 2015-10-05 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, that's a good point... that would be awfully inconvenient, wouldn't it?

[Acidic vines would definitely be a problem, but carnivorous? Eh. #swordlyfe]
reprizesal: (Why is it... I don't feel happy.)

[personal profile] reprizesal 2015-10-05 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, he can see her struggling. Sayo quickly look around to check the area, seeing which tree he can try climbing and moving around on.]

Hold still! I'll come up and cut you free!

[Yes, cut. He have a sword and will use it. After getting an idea of a possible route, Sayo moves towards a tree and starts trying to climb up.]
horsepoop: (待ってくれ)

[personal profile] horsepoop 2015-10-05 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[Namazuo would also like to know which sword spirit pissed off the jungle gods... (spoilers, it was probably yamato).]

Alright, I'm ready. [Not that... he can really do anything to prepare himself, but it's the thought that counts?

And it seems like they're succeeding! The vines begin to loosen their hold, several of them even unwinding from Namazuo's arms and slinking away. But there's no time to celebrate, because--]

Look out!

[The vines aren't so much letting Namazuo go as they are starting to head for Kogi.]

[It tingles as it's being packed on, but it's much better than before, even though clay looks absolutely disgusting. But well, one has to make due.]

...friends of yours?

[He looks very guilty. So guilty.]

Gambling friends? Or something else?
horsepoop: (OKです!)

[personal profile] horsepoop 2015-10-05 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[And Namazuo will help! He's not the strongest sword (not even the strongest waki, honestly) but that doesn't mean he can't make himself useful.]

Right! Let's try that first. We'll have to be careful, though, so we don't scare it away.

[flynn gives a small smile at that. even he can't argue that, dangerous as this jungle is, the change from that technology heavy city isn't entirely unpleasant.]

It certainly is a change from the norm.

[the monsters lurking everywhere feels almost homely. granted, the lack of blastia to protect from them makes it less so, but it'd be a reality soon enough, anyway. the smile soon gives way to a more thoughtful expression.]

But what strikes me most is that the village lacks any noticeable sign of having been attacked.

[maybe it's too old to tell, but nothing screams attack. most of the structures, though old, are in tact and there's knickknacks of various kinds everywhere: neither indicative of attack. factor in a lack of weapons scattered about, something almost expected if the villagers put up a fight, and it really raises the question if an attack was what ended this village's prosperity.]

[ Menacing doesn't work on Ket, unfortunately. The threat itself does, however, because Ket genuinely doesn't want Minato to go homeless. With a shrug, he climbs out. ]

Could have just said "I want to sit in this tub alone", you know. [ Not accusing, just bewildered. ] That's what you wanted, right? I can't tell for sure. Not when you imply and redirect like that, but – that was a threat, I think. The "I'm going to find somewhere else to stay" part. [ That's the part that confuses him the most. He teases Minato about his not-answers, but what if he really can't be direct? What if giving straight answers hurts him, somehow? ]

I'm sorry. For whatever I did. I'll work harder from now. At figuring out your riddles. [ Ket grins now, nodding at Minato as he picks up his clothes and slings them over a shoulder. ]

And, and I'll keep watch while you soak! For potential attackers. So you won't get eaten in the tub. [ With that, he Shifts. Into a tree – probably out of earshot of Minato. He's still naked, but it's not like it matters up here, right? ]

[See, this is why everyone loves Kasen. Cooking mama puts up with so much...]

Oh, it wasn't so terrible! It didn't hurt as much as landing in a tree would have, right? [Namazuo can deal with looking like a Old Gregg. But he'd probably be a lot less cheerful if he'd gotten a branch up the butt.

His fingers are deft and precise (he's had plenty of practice with his own hair, after all) and he finishes braiding rather quickly. Sitting back on his heels, he takes a moment to make sure it looks alright, then nods, satisfied with his work.]

It can? [That's not good... he'd be able to deal with it, probably, but Haru would worry, and he doesn't want that.] Should I take them off?

N-not gambling friends, no!

[For once, Kevin was not gambling. But then again, Kevin doesn't have any friends either, so how does he explain the Messiah and the Apostate? ]

Haha, Mister Kazuya and Mister Hiro are acquaintances who were in a spot of trouble...Since Mister Kazuya is er...somewhat special, I felt obliged to land them a hand.

[Which involved setting a clearing on fire, but you know.]

[ He braces himself for his own question, as if he's broaching on an alien topic that feels as strange to ask as it is strange to consider; there are still things about the inherently supernatural that don't quite resonate with him, and a part of him, the rational side of him, doesn't know how to go about approaching this without sounding utterly foolish.

So, before he asks, he pauses. Looks Oona up and down, as if this is good enough of an indication that he's thought about what he's going to say and acknowledges that it sounds ridiculous.
]

...The voice that spoke to all of us before we were sent here. [ The calm voice that spoke directly into his head— something about being saved? Nonsense to him. ] Did you recognize it at all?

[ He asks, because maybe it's someone Oona spoke to to get her scale...? She seems more well-versed in these things, he trusts her judgment on the matter. ]

Hmm, that's true... [It's not like they're hosting a party, but they aren't heartless enough to deny food to people who might actually need it to survive. Then again, they can't go and carry too many, just in case they need to fight.] I'm sure he'll cook for us if we ask him politely! Let's just hold onto these for now, and we can see what everyone else has found later on. [He's just kind of assuming they'll all find each other eventually! Swords of a feather stick together, or something...

His feelings about the jungle are mixed, honestly. He'd just barely begun to get used to the city, and he certainly didn't appreciate getting dumped in a river. But so far, things haven't been bad enough that he's willing to complain; he's still striving to remain positive.]

It's different! I'm sure we don't have anything like it back home. So we should take the opportunity to see as much as we can, right? [A smile!]

So clearly this impromptu trip is just a great bonding activity waiting to happen!]

... [The image of Ket sitting naked somewhere where people can see him is now vividly established in Minato's mind in spite of his valiant struggle to erase it from his mind- as it is the image seems to get more graphic the more he tries to banish it.

It would be one thing for Minato if this was the only embarrassing incident during this entire trip, but few things are more disturbing than sitting in a hot tub and attempting to relax in private, only to have one's mind filled with disturbing thoughts such as that one hug that possibly came from someone much older than him, the one hug from a complete stranger and this, whatever this goddamned mess is called.

He sits there for an hour before finally forcing himself to move, but the damage is done. He's very sure he's going to get sick and he's not sure which did it, the cold water or the mental trauma...]

...I regret this. [With head hanging low and a sigh only audible to himself he leaves the scene after getting dressed, almost forgetting to grab his Evoker in his haste.
