It is a quiet day in mostly reconstructed Cerealia. The robots are busily running into walls that were not there before, the Cybuddy bees are buzzing...and CERES has still not said a word. Attempting to contact them still gets the User Offline error. Strange...

But who cares if CERES is offline? After all, they are the cruel and tyrannical captors. A Cerealia without them must be better than a Cerealia with them. So there's nothing to worry about on this fine, peaceful day. Or, at least, that's what it seems like, when suddenly there's a voice in everyone's head. A chosen few may recognize the voice, for they will have heard it before, but to the vast majority, it is brand new.

Looks like someone has been saved, and a reward granted... and no, you don't have a single choice in the matter.

Your heroism will be remembered, lost and stolen souls.

You have saved me, and so now, I shall save you.

All of you.

//SCENARIOS.EXE

PHASE I

[ day one ] It happens so quickly. One moment you’re in the colony, going about your daily life, and the next, you’re… floating. A moment later, every player character from the colony is transported with a wisp of fresh air to...somewhere very very different. The distance is far, but it is covered in what must have only been a scant moment, and it’s clear somehow, especially to air characters, that it was Caeli’s doing that brought everyone there.

There, naturally, being right in the middle of the jungle.

Everyone is then unceremoniously dropped. You may land on a tree, or in a patch of poison mushrooms (no really, look out for the colorful plant life, it’s probably poisonous) or in the river. There are some strange insects of all sorts and types, some of which have some uncomfortable side effects if you’re bitten, such as swelling or the uncomfortable urge to go hug the nearest person, and there are strange flowers everywhere, some of which glow only in the dark of night or the shade of trees. It is dreadfully humid, however, and a little hard to breathe--unless you’re of the air disposition.

Either way, you’ve certainly landed somewhere fantastical, so take some time to get used to your surroundings. It shouldn’t take too long to find everyone else, hopefully.

PHASE II

[ day two ] Of course, this far into the jungle, and making this much noise, it was only inevitable before some company was attracted.

Some are clearly dangerous, some are peaceful as can be and some are somewhere in between; approach at your own risk.

Either way, these monsters are all drawn to larger groups of people and a lot of noise, so it may be best to keep quiet...though the ones that keep their distance may be even more concerning.

Everyone is certainly being stalked at one point or another in the jungle -- and at night, there are eyes watching from the darker parts of the trees.

PHASE III

[ day three ] But perhaps if you follow some of those monsters deeper into the woods, you will stumble across an old, run down village of sorts. It looks as though time and the jungle has overtaken it. Exploring it will reveal plenty of homes that were clearly lived in however, by families and by people of all sorts.

There are empty rooms, covered in dust, and a central village fire, long gone out.

Small knick-knacks and various objects can be found… if you want to steal from the dead, you know. It’s a little rude. It appears they led a simple, peaceful life, however; most notably, there is no technology to be found.

And if The Bridge catches you doing it, she will look incredibly sad and ask you to put everything back in its proper place before she goes back to looking very irritated at Caeli. You may overhear words about how this “isn’t the right place” and Caeli’s unrepentant, “It is only a few hundred miles”. Looks like something went a little wrong in the transportation process.

Time to camp out for the night, perhaps. And your CereVices don’t get any reception out here, so no surfing the internet for you. If you try to connect to the internet, for some reason the device starts playing a song. Was that programmed…?

PHASE IV

[ day four ] By the fourth day, it’s pretty clear that you’re going to be stuck here for a bit. Pestering Caeli or Maris gets nothing, while the Bridge still can’t be approached for pretty good reasons. So… you’ll just have to make the best of it while they figure out their next approach.

Time to figure out how to camp with few supplies and even fewer nice places to sleep. Maybe try to make a fire (though it’s incredibly difficult, considering how muggy it is here) or try to find some bugs to eat (ew gross).

Of course, you can try hunting, but the prey doesn’t look too friendly, so be careful not to become the prey yourself. The same goes for fishing, it seems.

Some of the trees are poisonous, some of the grasses will cause unfortunate rashes, and some vines will lash out to grab at people (especially colorful ones); basically, this is an entirely untamed alien jungle, so it may not be the fun camping trip you'd like.

Time to work together to survive out here, at least for a little longer.

It’s your time to shine. This is Person Versus Wild.

PHASE V

[ day six ] On day six, the jungle goes utterly silent.

The monsters and animals disappear. The extra friends poof away hastily and suddenly. Maris and the Bridge fall silent (though Caeli admittedly continues floating there as ever). If anyone approaches them to ask, they'll just say that "she is coming".

And soon, she does appear. She moves slowly, lacking in feet; they are roots, as though that of a tree. Nonetheless, she has no troubles with moving forward, slow bit by bit. She does not speak, not at first, and behind her, trotting lightly through the woods, there is another. Both feel strongly of spiritual energy, just like Maris and Caeli. And eventually, after observing the people gathered, they can be spoken to.

BONUS

[ day ??? ] After spending some time in the jungle, emotions might be running a bit amuck. And those emotions might bring some unexpected...friends. Yes, let's go with friends.

Because if a character is typically grumpy, gloomy, stoic, lineface, or anything along those lines, they may find themselves followed by a bright, happy bird. That bird feeds off of those emotions, and will just cheerfully follow around any lineface character for as long as possible. Or until they smile. The birds are otherwise harmless, chirping happily every now and then and following them around like a friendly shadow.

Happy, cheerful, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, energetic characters, on the other hand, will soon find themselves followed by... a different friend. Or maybe a handful of them. It depends on how cheerful they are. Either way, these creatures feed off of happiness and fun, but they will also chew on hair or an ear if they're allowed to get that close, making horrifying, chittering noises as they follow anyone who is in a good mood.

[dreyukyfryedty. That was sudden. Leon stumbles back a couple of steps, looking up at Ardeo; he's never been close to any animal this big before. Especially not one that was on fire!]

Shiiiit, don't just do that! Are you kiddin' me?! I can't hunt one o' those! All I've got's a knife!

Unless Caeli missed someone, they should all be here! But you never know with that guy, he's really useless!

[ Kind, as per usual. ]

Maris and Caeli, don't like either of them! Have you met them? You'd know what I mean if you have!
complices: (ᴀʀᴅᴇᴏ。)

[personal profile] complices 2015-10-26 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
That's right... Your kind mostly can't, right? Unless you already know how.

Or at least I think that's what happening -- I don't understand all that much about you guys still!
complices: (ᴀʀᴅᴇᴏ。)

[personal profile] complices 2015-10-26 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Probably because there's a lot of other things to do besides sleep! Sleep is boring!

[ He's so certain of his answer too, the flame of his body burning brighter with his conviction. ]
complices: (ᴀʀᴅᴇᴏ。)

[personal profile] complices 2015-10-26 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Well it's not like you're missing out on much. Those two are really, really boring! Gloomy! Dull! Stupid!

[ He looks like he's ready to go down a list. ]

[personal profile] complices 2015-10-26 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
You wanna prove it?

What're you willing to do?! Or do I just get to decide?

[ He brightens up entirely at the idea, bounding up to Minato and looking up at him curiously. Do you dare put your trust in a mischievous fox? ]

[ Ardeo sniffs once, his tail flicking slightly in annoyance. ]

A lot of you are asking that! What's the big deal? You don't like it out here? It's a lot nicer than the cold, shiny place, I promise!
complices: (ᴀʀᴅᴇᴏ。)

[personal profile] complices 2015-10-26 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
[ Ardeo is silent and his tail wags once, slowly. ]

What's your name? Why should I tell you? Are you going to do something about it? Are you going to help us like we want to help you?
complices: (ᴀʀᴅᴇᴏ。)

[personal profile] complices 2015-10-26 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
[ The challenging tone initially got Ardeo's flames to bristle, standing on edge as they would with any other offended animal.

Leia's interjection soothes him -- but not by much. ]

Maybe! I might not want to.

[ What a brat. ]
complices: (ᴀʀᴅᴇᴏ。)

[personal profile] complices 2015-10-26 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Ardeo. I am fire.

[ He says this with certainty and conviction, his gaze still pinned on the person that dared to try to threaten him. ]

Show respect.
complices: (ᴀʀᴅᴇᴏ。)

[personal profile] complices 2015-10-26 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
[ Ardeo just burns all the brighter, pleased as he walks around Nora. ]

It was funny! You shouldn't try to get too close to me when I don't allow it. Hope you learned your lesson!
complices: (ᴀʀᴅᴇᴏ。)

[personal profile] complices 2015-10-26 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
This is our home!

[ He says this with pride, chest puffing out a bit.

But the very air around him is warm, and if she continues to get closer, it'll just intensify in heat. That's his warning. Don't get too close when he doesn't permit it. ]
complices: (ᴀʀᴅᴇᴏ。)

[personal profile] complices 2015-10-26 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
[ Ardeo tilts his head at the question before shaking his head. ]

No way! Don't lump me in with Caeli. It was his job to get you all here -- I just wanted to meet you all once you arrived.

[ So: yes and no. ]

[Please no, don't. For the love of the god you believe in, don't.]

...well if it is making you that uncomfortable, then I will let it go.

[And probably instead meet these people behind your back. But that is neither here nor there.]

[ he's going to get a heart attack before the day even comes to an end. faced with the moral dilemma of having edgeworth pulled into the deep with a monster that shouldn't exist outside of action flicks and lucid nightmares and rescuing a guy who's already saved his life once, the choice is obvious.

makoto doesn't look, not entirely. it's partially attributed to his fear of the unknown, so the attack itself isn't deft in size or magnitude — just a punctured stab to the thickest part of the tentacle, which causes it recoil, releasing edgeworth in the process. unfortunately, it also turns on him, which has the unfortunate consequence of inciting felled panic in makoto as he wheels backwards and ends up — ]

Wh — .... !

... I haven't heard of the last two, but a bunch of swords?

[ PLEASE ENLIGHTEN HIM, he doesn't get sword spirits?! the mental image of kashuu, surrounded by a treasure trove of glinting steel blades he calls his pals doesn't exactly paint him as the epitome of sanity, but like, maybe his new friend's driven partially stir-fry crazy by the humidity. it wouldn't be the first time someone's succumbed to the utter ridiculousness of tellus. ]

Ah, yeah! That sounds like a plan, since it'll get dark soon —

[ and without further preamble makoto falls into kiyomitsu's pace without complaint, although he does stick close enough that it's fairly obvious that he doesn't want to be left alone in the wilderness. a good ways into the venture, makoto speaks up for the sake of answering kashuu's initial question. ]

If you ever come across anyone named Rin, Rei, Gou, or Haru out here, could you let them know that Makoto's looking for them? I'm just a little worried, since you're one of the first people I've seen out here all day.

[ well, he's not about to hold her accountable for mishaps that were never her fault to begin with. it'd been his choice to help her organize the training camp, among other things — disaster catalyzed only by the fact that he hadn't been attentive enough, hadn't ensured a situation where no one else would be at risk. he was accountable for rei's accident out at sea as well as his own disparate phobia, freezing up in the water when he could've made it back in time without alerting the others.

in any case, it's no use arguing semantics. makoto's a pretty whipped guy, so it only takes one obstinate half-glare from his manager before he yields, meekly raising his hand to accept the bar with every intention of returning it to her at a later time. ]

I did meet up with Rin briefly, but it seems like he was in a ... hurry. [ considering the rocket boots and fire gloves, bursting through the underbrush like some superhero before spiriting away. ] I haven't had much luck with using the CereVice to contact any of them, though, including Rei and Haru. We should stick together for now, Gou. It's safer that way.

[ and it's no mattress, but makoto pats an empty stretch of dirt beside him, eyes lingering on her disheveled state for a couple of seconds longer until he averted his gaze. ]

Are you tired? You should try to get some rest before we get moving again.

Yeah, it'd be nice if they at least let us know how long we'd be stuck out here. I didn't figure it was CERES's doing.

[ makoto shakes his head, direction already trained elsewhere. ]

Gou Matsuoka and Rei Ryugazaki. [ his friends from home, predictably. ] You'd probably already guess if I said Haru or Rin, though. I saw Rin earlier, but it was kind of — crazy, actually. It didn't really feel real to me? He had these rocket boots, and fire gloves ... ? I don't know. He saved me, though, so I guess that's one more thing I owe him.

... Oh, I see. Well, I'm glad you found me! I was pretty lost all by myself, too. Let's warm up, get some rest, and then look for food in the morning, okay?

[ makoto smiles benignly, the corners of his mouth quirked up, livened by takeru's honesty. he keeps his gaze trained at the slow, smoking fire, resin sap burning away, heat splintering the bark, darkening the wood. a slight chill continues to persist in his hands, but he kneads at his knuckles, attempting to will away the cold, and gradually it recedes. he can only hope that neither takeru or patamon will succumb to the dropping temperatures throughout the night, but they've been persistent so far, trumping the odds despite themselves.

little by little, the anxiety ebbs, only to be replaced by a growing detachedness, his gaze sliding from the flames to the ceiling above. ]

You really look up to your brother, huh? Back home, I had two younger siblings around your age, too! Ran and Ren. You remind me a little bit of them. They'd always know how to react in case of an emergency, too. I think you would've gotten along with them.

Oh, I see. I'll leave it to you then, Vietnam-san.

[ he squats down beside her, cursorily examining the deftness of her fingers as she wrenches at the rough collection of vines he's amassed along the way, assiduously lining them up, extraneous leaves and thorns discarded in lieu of thick, hollowed-out stalks.

for the most part, he's silent, watching her progress with wide, wide eyes. he's seen the task himself dozen of times while walking along the wharf, fishermen in rubbery coveralls hard at work repairing the ripped and unraveling meshed threads, but never close enough to gauge the preciseness of the work. it takes fingers more skilled and careful than his to pinch neat, tight knots in vine stems, so he remains quiet until she's assembled a net right before his eyes, absinthe green tendrils bunched in close enough to catch fish without snapping under duress. ]
