It is a quiet day in mostly reconstructed Cerealia. The robots are busily running into walls that were not there before, the Cybuddy bees are buzzing...and CERES has still not said a word. Attempting to contact them still gets the User Offline error. Strange...

But who cares if CERES is offline? After all, they are the cruel and tyrannical captors. A Cerealia without them must be better than a Cerealia with them. So there's nothing to worry about on this fine, peaceful day. Or, at least, that's what it seems like, when suddenly there's a voice in everyone's head. A chosen few may recognize the voice, for they will have heard it before, but to the vast majority, it is brand new.

Looks like someone has been saved, and a reward granted... and no, you don't have a single choice in the matter.

Your heroism will be remembered, lost and stolen souls.

You have saved me, and so now, I shall save you.

All of you.

//SCENARIOS.EXE

PHASE I

[ day one ] It happens so quickly. One moment you’re in the colony, going about your daily life, and the next, you’re… floating. A moment later, every player character from the colony is transported with a wisp of fresh air to...somewhere very very different. The distance is far, but it is covered in what must have only been a scant moment, and it’s clear somehow, especially to air characters, that it was Caeli’s doing that brought everyone there.

There, naturally, being right in the middle of the jungle.

Everyone is then unceremoniously dropped. You may land on a tree, or in a patch of poison mushrooms (no really, look out for the colorful plant life, it’s probably poisonous) or in the river. There are some strange insects of all sorts and types, some of which have some uncomfortable side effects if you’re bitten, such as swelling or the uncomfortable urge to go hug the nearest person, and there are strange flowers everywhere, some of which glow only in the dark of night or the shade of trees. It is dreadfully humid, however, and a little hard to breathe--unless you’re of the air disposition.

Either way, you’ve certainly landed somewhere fantastical, so take some time to get used to your surroundings. It shouldn’t take too long to find everyone else, hopefully.

PHASE II

[ day two ] Of course, this far into the jungle, and making this much noise, it was only inevitable before some company was attracted.

Some are clearly dangerous, some are peaceful as can be and some are somewhere in between; approach at your own risk.

Either way, these monsters are all drawn to larger groups of people and a lot of noise, so it may be best to keep quiet...though the ones that keep their distance may be even more concerning.

Everyone is certainly being stalked at one point or another in the jungle -- and at night, there are eyes watching from the darker parts of the trees.

PHASE III

[ day three ] But perhaps if you follow some of those monsters deeper into the woods, you will stumble across an old, run down village of sorts. It looks as though time and the jungle has overtaken it. Exploring it will reveal plenty of homes that were clearly lived in however, by families and by people of all sorts.

There are empty rooms, covered in dust, and a central village fire, long gone out.

Small knick-knacks and various objects can be found… if you want to steal from the dead, you know. It’s a little rude. It appears they led a simple, peaceful life, however; most notably, there is no technology to be found.

And if The Bridge catches you doing it, she will look incredibly sad and ask you to put everything back in its proper place before she goes back to looking very irritated at Caeli. You may overhear words about how this “isn’t the right place” and Caeli’s unrepentant, “It is only a few hundred miles”. Looks like something went a little wrong in the transportation process.

Time to camp out for the night, perhaps. And your CereVices don’t get any reception out here, so no surfing the internet for you. If you try to connect to the internet, for some reason the device starts playing a song. Was that programmed…?

PHASE IV

[ day four ] By the fourth day, it’s pretty clear that you’re going to be stuck here for a bit. Pestering Caeli or Maris gets nothing, while the Bridge still can’t be approached for pretty good reasons. So… you’ll just have to make the best of it while they figure out their next approach.

Time to figure out how to camp with few supplies and even fewer nice places to sleep. Maybe try to make a fire (though it’s incredibly difficult, considering how muggy it is here) or try to find some bugs to eat (ew gross).

Of course, you can try hunting, but the prey doesn’t look too friendly, so be careful not to become the prey yourself. The same goes for fishing, it seems.

Some of the trees are poisonous, some of the grasses will cause unfortunate rashes, and some vines will lash out to grab at people (especially colorful ones); basically, this is an entirely untamed alien jungle, so it may not be the fun camping trip you'd like.

Time to work together to survive out here, at least for a little longer.

It’s your time to shine. This is Person Versus Wild.

PHASE V

[ day six ] On day six, the jungle goes utterly silent.

The monsters and animals disappear. The extra friends poof away hastily and suddenly. Maris and the Bridge fall silent (though Caeli admittedly continues floating there as ever). If anyone approaches them to ask, they'll just say that "she is coming".

And soon, she does appear. She moves slowly, lacking in feet; they are roots, as though that of a tree. Nonetheless, she has no troubles with moving forward, slow bit by bit. She does not speak, not at first, and behind her, trotting lightly through the woods, there is another. Both feel strongly of spiritual energy, just like Maris and Caeli. And eventually, after observing the people gathered, they can be spoken to.

BONUS

[ day ??? ] After spending some time in the jungle, emotions might be running a bit amuck. And those emotions might bring some unexpected...friends. Yes, let's go with friends.

Because if a character is typically grumpy, gloomy, stoic, lineface, or anything along those lines, they may find themselves followed by a bright, happy bird. That bird feeds off of those emotions, and will just cheerfully follow around any lineface character for as long as possible. Or until they smile. The birds are otherwise harmless, chirping happily every now and then and following them around like a friendly shadow.

Happy, cheerful, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, energetic characters, on the other hand, will soon find themselves followed by... a different friend. Or maybe a handful of them. It depends on how cheerful they are. Either way, these creatures feed off of happiness and fun, but they will also chew on hair or an ear if they're allowed to get that close, making horrifying, chittering noises as they follow anyone who is in a good mood.

[It's like she found the human equivalent of what some of the mermen were like back home, and part of her finds that odd in a human, but mostly she just wants to put him somewhere safe and brush his hair. Mermaid instincts, maybe.]

Oona. [She speaks again at length, watching him attempt to untangle the creatures. It seems to be working, for the most part at least.] You said 'miss'? My name is Oona. And you are...?

[Oona opens and closes her mouth a few times, looking uneasy.] ...I can not lie, but I do not know what the lie is, here.

It... is possible humans know, now. My people may be in danger. But, I do not have any way of knowing.

But, still! They have not disturbed any of us before. It was peaceful, and quiet. Is it not so, where you are from?

That just makes me wonder what his promises were. It must have been convincing.

[ Yu pauses, taking a breath and going over all of this in his mind. ]

So Vincere buys the planet in order to found Cerealia. He does so by possibly bribing the spirits somehow. At some point, he captures the Bridge. He and all his subordinates are killed, or he fakes his own death, maybe because he knows the spirits are going to come after him. They flood the colony because of his betrayal. Then the raid took place, and the Bridge was freed. Because of that, she felt the need to rescue all of us, and here we are.

[ A beat. ]

Does that about sum everything up so far?

Who're you looking for? Maybe I've met them?

It's Makoto, by the way! [ acting like politeness is a given prerequisite, he affords kashuu some space to gesture back into the tangled undergrowth. ] We should probably get moving before it's too dark out.

[ snapping out of a synaptic break, nerves wound too tight, expression slivered into slight alarm, makoto devotes his efforts to wrenching down a handful of absinthe-green vines, breaking them at the stems to rope around one shoulder. once he's amassed a considerable amount, he nods, proceeding past the clearing and into one of the worn-out paths. ]

Okay. I think I saw an embankment nearby, so we should have a good chance at catching some fish before evening falls.

[ he glances down at the crudely sharpened rocks in her hands only once, clearly out the stringy weeds that choke out the pathway, heading further down the slope until they're greeted by the sight of water — a circuitously swift-moving river, blueness bleached away into a glistening, refractive stream with the glare beating down on their heads.

tentatively, he approaches the shore, sparing only a single glance into its transparent depths before leaving the vines in a haphazard coil of greenery and leafy stalks along the ground. ]

... I've never made a fishing net before, but I know what they look like. [ a commonplace image: fishermen along the docks, wringing out their catch of the day along the wharf. ] Could you let me know if I need to redo the knots? I figure they need to be wound tight enough to catch fish, but not so stiff that they'll end up splitting under the pressure.

[ ayyyy, getting flustered over the superfluous is their shared MO. no need for stupefying mortification, here.

hypothetically speaking, upon encountering rei in this state, haru would be deadpanning like a fish swimming upstream, gou politely shielding her gaze from pectorals with half-opened fingers, and rin hypothetically cracking jokes until the veritable end of time, so maybe it's a good thing rei's stuck with makoto, eternal schmuck and purveyor of all things maudlin and overly sentimental.

or not, considering his swim captain hawking his kitschy concern for all it's worth, straightening out rei's coat with maternal finesse. ]

... Geez. Don't apologize.

[ picky, picky. dusting off his hands, he calmly draws back into the shade of (mostly) rayless foliage, the sun slowly leeching into the darker undergrowth. ]

We should stick together, at least for now. Have you seen any of the others yet?

[ guarding the door alone is an exercise in futility, so makoto makes the most out of the temporary reprieve they're afforded with to shove an end table against the entryway, piling it down with rocks to keep the insectoids from burrowing their way through the spaces between cooling adobe brick. their buzzing grows frenetic, ramping up in intensity by several decibels, but after a stretch of ten minutes it abates.

having survived that swarm of bugs hell-bent on ripping them apart, makoto circumvents his attention to takeru, positioned some ways from the fire. and he can't help grinning then, his mouth brimming with the wide relief of a smile, dropping down beside him by shrugging his jacket off and offering it to his companion as an impromptu blanket. ]

No way they'll be getting again, thanks to you guys. We make a pretty good team! I'm proud of you both.

[ countering takeru's rejoinders with a flooding laugh, he commiseratively pats an empty stretch of dirt beside him for patamon, sticking a few branches into the fire for good measure. ]

Now, what were you two doing wandering out there all by yourself? It's dangerous! You could've gotten really hurt.

[ don't mind the double standard. makoto wasn't all that ecstatic to stumble upon them being slowly eaten alive by those twig-like arthropods. ]
cordated: (SIEVE.)

[ surprisingly, makoto never put much stock into the legend of the kraken. sea goblins (which are real, excuse you), mermaids, sirens, eldritch abominations from the deep — all of them fell into the same category of weird, abnormal creatures he (once) desperately hoped to never meet in any lifetime or face the inevitability of being eaten or forcibly dragged into the deep, but octopi usually only occupied some other ambiguous category. never truly acknowledged, in that respect, or he'd never get sleep again.

so, namely, that's what's happening right now. some unholy abomination is rising from the stream to confront them. or part of one, at least, judging from the strange appendage that wraps around one leg in record speed. he's staring at it, really staring at it, eyes blown wide to saucers. ]

A-a-a-a-a ...

[ past the point of coherent speaking, he's making a wild grab for the spear conveniently positioned at edgeworth's side, but as it turns out, there are more pressing matters to currently surmount, such as the second tentacle somehow snaking up ... from his companion's blind spot ... ]

B-Behind you!

If you wouldn't mind.

[He sounds more relieved than cautious. Rei knows Rin well enough that he wouldn't offer the question otherwise. But, damn it, he's going to cling to what decorum he can; his dignity can scarce survive another blow so soon.

It's hardly the pairing he'd expected, himself and Rin (and sometimes Gou); before Tellus, he would have considered them friends, if somewhat tentatively, but nothing particularly close. But, it seems, arrival in Cerealia had turned everything on its head, including the people around him. Makoto has been more distant than he's used to, obfuscating when he's normally so quick to offer advice. Haruka has been absent to the point of not even a greeting--Rei knows he's here simply because he has been told, and it's still a point of concern, even if the estrangement has been partially his own fault in his own distraction and resulting lacking initiative. (Gou, at least, has seemed herself in all of this, insomuch as anyone can be, given the circumstance.)

His (blossoming?) relationship with Rin has been the biggest surprise, but one he cannot say he's not incredibly thankful for, even if it has resulted in multiple embarrassments in a very short time. His poor ego. It's the silver lining in this stormy disaster he hasn't come close to understanding even in terms of a summation.]

At least if it's not a burden to you, Rin-senpai.

[And...there it is. Good job, Ryugazaki. (He doesn't even notice the slip.)]

[Edgeworth likewise never believed in these mythical creatures...until his time in another world fraught with the supernatural changed that. Also, he has made friends among these so-called mythical creatures. Anyway, images of those begin to flash in his mind; surely this strange jungle would have more animals below the surface that looked nothing like Earth creatures, he shouldn't be surprised anymore, but...

While he tries to figure out what's causing the noise, he barely pays any attention to Makoto - until the latter grabs the spear offered to him and makes incoherent sounds. Edgeworth whips around to look at Makoto and gasps at the sight of the tentacle.]

Wh - what is -

[Behind him? Edgeworth nearly breaks his neck craning it, but he does see the second tentacle. It whips out to grab him, but he dives aside, straight into the shallow part of the river. He staggers upright, his front completely damp, and holds up his sword to take aim at the tentacle that had Makoto. Unfortunately, another rears up to wrap itself around his thigh before Edgeworth can do anything.]

Stab it! Quickly!

[ Okay. It's now just a matter of lopping off the tongue from where he's standing with the scythe...

and as soon as he attempts a quick swipe, the blade just falls right off in the monster's mouth. ]

[Edgeworth stares at Takeru's display. Now, he wouldn't have thought of that. Would the bird even be able to comprehend that? Still, he decides to keep his mouth shut.

His feathered friend, on the other hand, opens and shuts its beak, and ruffles its wings excitedly. It repeats the gesture several times but makes no move for the bugs.

Edgeworth's expression isn't very hopeful right now.]
