[He sounds more relieved than cautious. Rei knows Rin well enough that he wouldn't offer the question otherwise. But, damn it, he's going to cling to what decorum he can; his dignity can scarce survive another blow so soon.
It's hardly the pairing he'd expected, himself and Rin (and sometimes Gou); before Tellus, he would have considered them friends, if somewhat tentatively, but nothing particularly close. But, it seems, arrival in Cerealia had turned everything on its head, including the people around him. Makoto has been more distant than he's used to, obfuscating when he's normally so quick to offer advice. Haruka has been absent to the point of not even a greeting--Rei knows he's here simply because he has been told, and it's still a point of concern, even if the estrangement has been partially his own fault in his own distraction and resulting lacking initiative. (Gou, at least, has seemed herself in all of this, insomuch as anyone can be, given the circumstance.)
His (blossoming?) relationship with Rin has been the biggest surprise, but one he cannot say he's not incredibly thankful for, even if it has resulted in multiple embarrassments in a very short time. His poor ego. It's the silver lining in this stormy disaster he hasn't come close to understanding even in terms of a summation.]
At least if it's not a burden to you, Rin-senpai.
[And...there it is. Good job, Ryugazaki. (He doesn't even notice the slip.)]
