[Which is appreciated, because balancing on a narrow ledge in the dark is a challenge (to put it mildly). It's also mind-numbingly tedious.]

Why do you think the fox brought us here? [She's trying to make it less obvious that she's asking a question simply to break the eerie silence and distract herself from the dangerous ledge.]
