//event021.EXE

You’ve arrived. The sweeping, picturesque landscape is vast and perfectly rendered; the lake glitters in the sun, the grass ripples in the wind, the city bustles with voices and noise, and overall, it seems there’s been a bit of a graphics boost for CereScape.

And now you're a member.

Time to enjoy all of the perks that brings, and try not to think about how much it cost you. Don't worry, it's an automatic, monthly deduction, really, no need to worry!

CERES assures you that it will be totally worth it.

This is Mosley and I am now a wizard. I say that because we have heard your customer feedback for CeresScape and in your whining, you have requested wizards! And other stuff too but the important thing here is wizards and excellent graphics. We have delivered on both. You are welcome and I hope you all continue to appreciate what CERES does for you. Just you. Especially you.

Happy leveling!

//SCENARIOS.EXE

PHASE I

[ 6:30 ] You really have arrived, finally.

Too bad the welcome isn’t so great.

Upon arrival, you will literally be dropped out of the sky.

You may land in the lake (watch out for the fish). You may land on the roofs of the buildings in the town (watch out for the spires). Or you may be unlucky, and fall all the way from the sky to the ground, at which point you die and lose a life already.

Don’t worry, you’ll respawn in the air and you can try again.

Good luck this time!

If you do manage to finally land in a way that doesn’t break your spine and/or drown you, you’ll find that if you’re a newcomer, you’ll have some strange words hovering over your head. They seem to be a set of your name, a level, a class and a quest, something like --

Ima Adventurerer Lv. 9000
Class: Dragon Slayer
Current Quest: Slay every dragon

-- but aside from existing, they don't seem to have any actual impact on your abilities or requirements. But you can do the quests if you really want to. Everyone will clap politely for you if you do. There might be confetti, even.

They would appear to coincide with a scroll or two posted up in the middle of town for everyone to see.

At least it’s easy to tell who’s new this round.

PHASE II

[ 7:45 ] Once you’re safely on the ground (hopefully no broken bones!), it’s time to get a feel for the game. As free range as it seems to be, you have all sorts of choices in where to go and what to do. You could take on some quests! You could go hunt down monsters! You could...pick up that fancy looking armor over there!

Except you may not actually want to do so. As soon as you touch that armor, it will equip itself, no ifs, ands or buts. Of course, it isn’t so bad, at least, not for the ladies. For the men who equip the armor, they may find it to be a little breezy. In many different variations.

To make matters worse, be careful what you touch in your inventory, unless you want to equip a fish instead of your sword, or whatever the hell this is instead of your cool, awesome, special weapon. Good luck.

And the only way to unequip it is to find something else to equip. There’s motivation for some questing, at least.

PHASE III

[ 10:00 ] Eventually, you have to venture out of the town, however. There are NPCs ushering you to quest onwards, and there’s nothing in the town worth poking your nose into; none of the doors open, and all of the NPCs say the same, looping lines in a creepy monotone.

There are quests to be done outside of the town, they say, over and over.

So, off you go. However, the moment you step out of the town, you’re…somewhere else entirely. Look behind you, and the town is gone. Look around you, and there’s nothing but flowers, fields and the other people who have stepped out of the town themselves, looking equally confused. The bizarre armor is now gone, and you're back in your proper clothing; the strange floating titles and levels and the like are also gone. Otherwise, it is silent; there isn’t a single other soul. No bird song, no buzzing of bees -- just silence.

Of course, it won’t last. Soon, the monsters show up...but strangely, they seem to be monsters from your world, if your world had monsters. If your world had animals, they are those, or robots, or any number of combinations. But they seem...different. They’re meaner, larger, nastier, and all dark colors and bloody, dripping claws and fangs.

It seems everything’s been a little corrupted here -- even things from your own worlds.

PHASE IV

[ 14:00 ] If you persevere through the monster-infested fields, trampling your way through flowers which did nothing at all to you, you’ll eventually find yourself at a still, still lake. It’s a beautiful place, quiet and hushed and untouched, and totally monster-free; it might be a good place to take a breather.

But if you look into the lake, even for a brief moment, you’ll see whatever it is you want most in the world. Whether it’s a person (dead or alive), a thing, a title… it doesn’t matter; the lake will show it, tantalizing and right there, so close to being in your grasp.

If you don’t pull away immediately, you might find that it’s hypnotizing, in fact; you’ll feel the need to go closer and closer, even if it means wading into the lake to get closer to that goal. Just...don’t go too far. Something is waiting for you.

If you touch someone to try to help them, you’ll see what they are also seeing in the lake, for better or for worse. It might be a good chance to get to know them, if you weren’t, you know, in danger of being eaten.

Thankfully, with some perseverance and good friends, the hypnotism can be broken. You do have friends, right?

If you survive all of that, you can finally log out and join Cerealia proper -- hooray!

BONUS

[ xx:xx ] There sure are a lot of flowers in this field of flowers. There are flowers everywhere. Which isn’t a bad thing, unless you’re allergic to flowers (if you are allergic to flowers, CERES apologizes and suggests you take their special, patented ClariCERESclear to clear that right up). Except...the longer you’re in said field of flowers, the more you may notice that things are a little...strange.

Some of the pollen of the flowers has some strange effects on your bodies, it would seem. You could stumble across any of these (or none at all), and they could last anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour or two, depending on how much of that pollen you breathe in.

The effects are as follows:

➟ The urge to princess-carry the nearest person
➟ The urge to serenade the nearest person, regardless of your singing ability
➟ An awakened urge to be really aggressive towards the nearest person, even to the point of fighting (it's time to pvp)
➟ Uncontrollable crying
➟ An uncontrollable urge to make flower crowns and place them on peoples' heads (which thus further spreads the other effects).

Don’t trust the flowers.

[that introduction to whatever the hell is going on followed by complete confusion has Cao Pi bolting for the hills. He's not touching armor, he's not even looking at the scrolls (Guo Jia is more fabulous than he, anyway), he's one of the first out of the village just to find someplace empty to compose himself and come to grips with the infodump.

Eventually, anyone who follows might find him in the fields, where he'll be more personable - even if he has to talk himself into it for the sake of his own sanity and survival.
]

III

[Heaven or Hell help you if you stumble on him when the monsters appear, because Cao Pi has recently been eyeball-to-eyeball with a massive 8-headed Hydra and of course the biggest, baddest, bloodiest monster the game can corrupt would be that one.

Mighty unrivaled warrior or not, Cao Pi is running like hell in the opposite direction from this thing. There's no Yasho'ori here to destroy it, his worst fear materialized, and he's not stopping to test himself against it. If you'd like to, he invites you to be his guest, otherwise he'll take any help evading it until he - and you - get out of its line of sight, behind rocks, deep in the grass, whatever it takes.

The snake demons which pop up around him after that, well, those are much easier to cut down. Or bring him your monsters to slay, he'll take care of it, but not without a high degree of snark in your direction for your failure.
]

Bonus

[Unbridled aggression toward others? Check.

Uncontrollable sobbing? He won't let anyone see it but check.

If either of those are not the flavor - er, scent - of the moment, one may stumble upon Cao Pi seated in the midst of the flowers, softly singing to himself. With no one around to serenade, he has to serenade himself of course! But the first person to cross his path will have his voice turned toward them instead.

[yeah, that fall? it kind of hurt. but there's no impaling or anything of the sort, just a hard crash into the ground that is probably only broken by stahn's already extreme armor and even more extreme hair.]

A---Ahhh, tch-tch! That hurt... [he'll sit up, rubbing his head a little. it takes him a minute to notice the words that float over his head.] Heeeeh?

[he's confused. and when he's confused and without one of his human comrades, it means there's only one solution: ask dymlos. so stahn pulls his sword out, holding it tightly by the hilt and straight out in front of him, with the tip of the blade facing the sky.]

Hey, Dymlos. What do you think it means? "Fire fighter L-V 55..." [a pause, and.] Ah! It's because I use you, and you use fire, right?

[no, stahn. that's not it. "Stahn, don't be ridiculous. We should check the area first to see what this is all about before making such an assumption." the sword answers him—though to most, they'll hear nothing at all. which means that stahn's response will look... like he's talking to an inanimate object like it's alive to those who can't hear dymlos.] Mm, I guess you're right. Okay, let's do that then—let's go!

[and that means for those who don't, stahn may be approaching with a friendly smile and a wave. he's got questions, and being the rpg protagonist he is, it's only natural to approach every person he sees in the hopes of gaining some information. or maybe scaring them off because he's a guy with a mullet that would make whitesnake jealous that talks to his sword.

in any case, he hasn't even really taken note of the quest part of the equation yet. it's a good thing he has a habit of interacting with all the animals he sees anyway, huh?]

( bonus; )

[okay, so maybe stahn spent a little too much time breathing in the sweet scent of flowers. they're nice and relaxing—honestly, he kind of needs it. the only reasons he's held from freaking out about his friends and loved ones supposedly being gone for real is the fact that dymlos warned him not to be so quick to believe something like that without evidence.

so this? it's not so bad. after spending a while in the flowers, he wants to sing a song about them. so he'll wave over anyone who's near—or just sing to nobody at all. the problem with this? stahn cannot sing. at all.]

[stahn is undoubtedly ready to take a break. he's not used to traveling alone anymore, and while he's persevered this far, it's tough. he's trying hard to wrap his head around the circumstances—but it couldn't have come at a worse time. with his own world in so much danger and things really coming to the wire, it makes him feel helpless, like he's failing the people most important to him. did they really perish? did he fail to save even his friends? the other members of the swordian team? why... why was it just him and dymlos?

it's draining, so when dymlos suggests they take a breather, that stahn get his head on straight again, he relents. it's quiet, and it's pretty... in some ways, it almost reminds him of the area surrounding leane, and that's enough for him.]

Wooooow... amazing. The lake is pretty... [bad idea, stahn. he edges closer to the water to see how fresh it is; it looks clean and crystal clear. but it's not long before his eyes catch something so shocking that he can't help but want to pursue it.]

...Leon!? [it can't be possible, right? it had to be a trick, because he'd just spoken of leon to marian what felt like just moments earlier. besides... leon was dead. why would he be there, standing in the same thing that took his life? yet still, he feels compelled to chase it. because what if it is leon? what if some miracle occurred, and what if it could lead him to rutee and the others? he has to know. so he pressed forward with little regard, wading into the water with no care.

too bad that dymlos isn't fooled. "Stahn! Stahn!!" he calls that out, numerous times to try and snap stahn out of the trance, but it's not working at all. for all the times dymlos serves as a good voice of reason, it's not enough—not when it's leon that he sees. he's desperate enough to want to believe that this is something good in the middle of a lot of terrible things that seem to be happening to him.]

[Iris hit the water at full speed, both shock and surprise knocking the wind out of her in a curtain of bubbles. Instincts led her to attempt a breath, but all she inhaled was water. Her arms and legs kicked frantically, blurred vision telling of a light source above.]

[When, at last, she broke the surface, it...wasn't enough. She coughed and sputtered and tried to cry for help, but the words never quite made it out. Worse, she found herself inhaling even more water. Her limbs grew heavy. The thick material of her uniform weighing her down. She tried to look around for signs of someone--anyone at all--who could help her.]

[But not before her head slipped under once more.]

Phase II

[Curiosity got the better of her. She touched the armor.]

[Almost immediately, her clothes were replaced by...by...actually, she couldn't even tell, because the large helmet suddenly atop her head was so large, it obscured most of her vision. All she knew was that it was even heavier than her soaking wet uniform. And stiff. Very stiff.]

[Tentatively, she called out. Her petite form leading to a second, more significant problem:]

How am I supposed to move in this?

Phase IV

[For the first time since her rather dramatic entrance, Iris was able to let out a sigh of relief.]

[It was so quiet. Peaceful. She closed her eyes and took a moment to revel in the sun's warmth and the gentle breeze as it blew across her face. [...that...wasn't her reflection in its shimmering surface...]

[She had to blink twice before her mind registered what she was seeing as real. Or real enough. The image of a certain University student, oversized pink sweater and all. Every story he'd told her.]

[Every time he'd called her "Dollie" and her heart ached just a little more...]

["Iris"]

[She gasped, both hands rising to cover her nose and mouth. There was no sound emitting from the water's surface, but she read her name, clear as day, on his lips. Her name. He'd said her name. Not Dahlia's. Tears threatened to well in the corner of her eyes as she continued to watch the not!memory play out. The joy and laughter shared between two people who had never known one another as anything but a lie...]

[Before she realized what she was doing, Iris took a step closer to the image. And another. A hand tentatively reached for the surface of the water.]

BONUS

[She was giggling.]

[Iris rarely giggled, save for the most special of occasions.]

[In this instance, however, she couldn't seem to help herself. Sitting amidst the field of flowers, weaving the branches she'd pulled from a nearby flora...she had always been quite skilled with her hands, thanks to the tasks given to her up at Hazakura Temple. Granted, those tasks had never involved making a crown of flowers, but there was nothing wrong with a little bit of improvising.]

I'm sure. [She motioned for him to come closer.] I can always make more. This one's for you.

Y-Yata-kun... [Rock Lee tears up as he sees his old beloved friend, who was gone for so long.]

I am here!! I am here to...

[But then, Lee inhales a different kind of pollen. That decides his actions.

He lunges at Yata and reaches for him, to lift him and begin princess carrying him.]

Yes, stick with me if you want to survive!!

Rabbit Lv 16
Class: Beastamer
Current Quest: Climb the tallest tree

Phase i

[The nice thing about being a robot is that a plummeting fall from the sky likely won't result in their death. So instead of immediately being knocked offline when she crashed into the most unfortunate barn of the town, Rabbit only had to rise back up on unsteady feet and dust herself off before progressing with her campaign.

--Oh, also better grab that arm that had come loose and fallen off of her body, huh?

Tucking her sparking arm between her working arm and her body, the robot scampered away as quietly as she could from the barn before the cops show up. It's on her way towards the edge of town that she catches sight of anyone else.]

Hey! [Her mismatched eyes dart down to her broken arm, a grin tugging at the corner of her lopsided mouth.] Care t' lend me a hand, b-buddy?

Phase iv

[Whatever the lake is tricking her into seeing doesn't matter. What does matter is that the creaking, clanking robot is inching closer and closer to the shore, only a few moments from walking right into the lake and shorting herself out completely.

Will you let her meet this shocking end?]

[Iris heard the other girl's call. Felt the hand upon her shoulder.]

[She even turned back, eyes drifting upward. Blinking once. Twice. But no other changes in her expression, which read of a bittersweet longing tied to the water's image. It was as if she didn't register the potential danger of her situation.]

It's alright.

I only wanted to...get a better look...

[Besides, she knew how to swim. Somewhat.]

Phase I

KIavier Gavin Lv. 77
Class: Lawman
Current Quest: Sing 5 limericks

[ He dusted off his trousers, that fall was... something. Something that he didn't want to experience. But it wasn't as painful he thought it would be.

There was something out of his field of vision and it took him a moment before Klavier realised that there was a set of words above his head. "Lawman?" "Sing 5 limericks?" What kind of nonsense was this?

At least his level seemed suitably high.

Still, he couldn't shake the feeling that this was totally not his gig. ]

This isn't cool, ja? Limericks? I sing poetry, thank you.

Phase II

[ Klavier's not entirely sure about their choice in armor, but he shrugs. It's not like he's not used to showing his body like that.

Again, it could have been worse. He could have been naked and he at least had some dignity and not wanting to be caught on obscenity charges.

But he wasn't happy about his choice of weapon though. It seemed to be some sort of flower that seems to do nothing but sprout flowers on the ground that sparkled. They were pretty flowers, but it seemed to be completely non functional as an actual weapon.

This meant that Klavier sat on a flat rock, idly making flowers bloom on the ground near him. He was only just a little bit despondent by this development. Little did he know that the flowers were actually creating a magic barrier around him. (Those joke weapons actually had some use, who knew.)]

[Alice was working on another flower crown and blinked at the sight of the older gentleman. She blinked at the sudden poetry and then blinked again.]

Ah that's... a very... interesting poem, Mr. Yata. [She was trying to be nice, but her face clearly suggested she didn't really believe that.]

I could help you rhyme, if you like, I'm rather good at rhymes and poems.

[It's a woman, be afraid.]

Oh! You must be new, right?

I wouldn't mind!

[Meanwhile, Takeru already had a feeling that this was going to go as well when he first arrived here wasn't it? By that, it was probably going to suck a lot wasn't it? But as long as he didn't need to face a giant eating PacMan again, he should be safe right?

Of course, as he kept wandering around the area, that's when he heard someone nearby]

Hm? Yeah, I don't m-

[However, when he turned around though? Don't mind the boy staring at you!] Um...are you okay, miss?

{OOC: Heyo! Just a quick reminder to any normal humans to please check this out before you interact with Mikleo! ;w;}

Phase I: Deja Vu

[You know what's sad? This isn't the first time Mikleo has fallen at a tremendous height that could kill him. He doesn't waste time screaming. Rather, he summons his staff and points it at the ground.]

Surging current! Twin Flow!

[Twin geysers of water erupt from the staff, and once they impact the ground, it stops him from falling for a short moment. The seraph times it so that he's stopped falling long enough to make the rest of the distance non-lethal. Mikleo lands on his feet gracefully and looks around at his new surroundings with caution.]

Now where am I?

[He glances down at a puddle and sees something hovering over his head. On closer examination, they're words.

Mikleo Lv. 69
Class: Window Washer
Current Quest: Capture 500 chickens
]

...What?

Phase II: I tried so hard and got so far...

[Mikleo regrets his life choices. There's so much regret. How could this happen to him? He's made his mistakes....

He's muttering darkly under his breath, face brilliant red as he tries to hunt down a cloak. Any cloak, as long as it covers him.]

Who the hell thinks this makes adequate armor?!

[Please help him....]

Phase III: But in the end, it didn't even matter

[Okay, well, he's out of the town and he has a cloak on! Except that now the cloak and armor are gone. He's back in his regular clothes, praise be to everything holy.

This silence, though...it makes him very uneasy. Mikleo takes out his staff, looking around and waiting for the shoe to drop.

AND BOY DOES THAT SHOE DROP. Hellions descend on the group. These ones are primarily elephants and werewolves from the more arid climates in Glenwood. Yet, they seem more...corrupt than usual. Not that Mikleo really has a chance to think about it. He just starts fighting for his life.]

Phase IV: A dream is a wish your heart makes

[Five Lords, finally he makes it out of that stupid field in one piece! Not that Mikleo trusts this new area any more than he did the other one. The fact that it's so serene and peaceful just makes him more wary about unseen dangers.

The water seraph frowns as he spies the lake. He summons his staff as he approaches the lake. There's no guarantee that it doesn't have something dangerous lurking in its depths.

Mikleo expects to be shown his reflection when he looks into the lake. He doesn't get that. Instead, the seraph gets an image. It looks like him and Sorey going through ruins that had yet to be explored. Sorey, at least, seems a little older than 17 in this image, though the Mikleo in there doesn't look terribly changed.

There's a pang in his chest as he watches for a little longer. He feels an urge to get closer, but Mikleo shakes his head and wrenches his eyes away from the image.]

I can't have that.

[The pain is still there, though. It's what he wants the most: the two of them having more years together to explore and experience the things they haven't yet gotten around to doing.]

phase why

[Look, this entire situation has sucked from start to finish. He doesn't understand why this is happening. He doesn't understand why he of all people was dragged into this. He doesn't understand how this entire situation has anything to do with his world supposedly being destroyed.

He doesn't understand why he's breathing right now, when he can remember running out of air, and taking a helpless, unstoppable breath in, and breathing in only water--

The only bright point about this situation has been that he's not alone, as ever; Chal is still there, and still alert and okay, and that's something that Leon is relieved for (even if it'd been a very tearful reunion (on Chal's part), which only confirms that Leon knows that he definitely--).

There are flowers stuck in his hair, and he was trying to brush them off of his cloak when he hears Dymlos before he sees anything else. He...shouldn't go over there. If Dymlos is yelling at Stahn, Stahn is there, and... That doesn't make sense, but even so, he shouldn't.

But it's the panic in the Swordian's tone that drags him over there anyway, unwillingly, and when he sees Stahn edging towards that lake as if transfixed, he knows something is wrong. Can he really stand back, even knowing that? ...No, no he really can't, can he, and it's with a clenched jaw that he steps forward.]

Tch-- Stahn! What do you think you are doing?!

phase i.

[ well. falling sure isn't a way to start the day - or maybe it is, considering that steven has had one of the strangest ones of his life to date. but there isn't much time to contemplate any of the things running through his head, seeing as hitting the ground, being skewered by a rooftop spire, or drowning all seem to be viable fates for him at the moment. he has to think quickly.

and of course, his quick thinking leads him to rely on his team. with little hesitation, he reaches to his belt, pulls out a poké ball and throws it into the air. ]

Skarmory, please!

[ out of the ball comes a strange flash of energy, which shapes into a bird with feathers that look almost like steel - an odd sight, if you're watching from the ground. in almost a split second, it dives to catch its trainer on its back before steven can hit anything. it's a close call, but both of them are safe. they circle the skies above the town for a few moments, scoping out a safe landing spot before beginning their descent.

once they land, steven dismounts, hair a little windswept, but safe and sound. were you watching all of that? if so, feel free to approach. if you do, you'll see...

Steven Stone Lv. 71
Class: Rock Fancier
Current Quest: Propose to a pebble

[ if you're curious, ask him about it! maybe with that cool bird monster, he can help you with your quest. or if you want to just pet it, you can try that too. ]

phase iii.

[ after returning skarmory to its poké ball and exploring the town a little on foot, steven figures that it's time to venture out. he may not be much of a gamer, but he is an explorer, and his intuition tells him that forward progress is the way to go. still, the lesson of "it's dangerous to go alone" rings true for any adventurer, so he elects to bring his metagross out of its ball. it seems to have an odd stone attached to its leg, but is otherwise as normal as a gigantic psychokinetic metal monster can be. with his closest partner by his side, he sets off.

when they reach the field, it's quiet... too quiet. ]

Something isn't right here. Don't you agree?

[ his question was addressed to metagross (which lets out a metallic-sounding grunt in affirmation), but maybe if you're nearby, you can put in your two cents. either way, his prediction will be right - in front of him, a slew of pokemon with that dark aura around them look like they're ready to attack. ]

We can't let them get closer. [ and if your character is around him, able to fight, he'll say: ] Let's fight them together. I promise to watch your back; can I ask you do the same for me?
