It's why he doesn't really hold this conversation any differently than he would with any other houseguest he disagreed with, and why there's no hesitation before he answers those questions.]

He'd get even more worked up if we were sitting around with injuries he could repair. [Their saniwa has a heart that's so kind it's almost painful, after all. Minor or moderate damage is all treated the same; it's just one reason why Kashuu is so terribly fond.]

So the best thing we can do is just cut down on injuries in the first place, buuut... [Easier said than done and all. SO:] —But he explained all that stuff, yeah. I think he thought we all already knew, so he was trying to explain around it at first, but we talked about it a little. [Because Kashuu truly is like a dog with a bone sometimes...]

[ Oh Pitch had been made abundantly aware that most of the spirits did not fear him. One way or another Kashuu either understood enough of why Pitch Black incited nightmares (in one mortal when it used to be thousands) or he understood nothing and was demanding a sacrifice from the only being that wasn't a sword.

Becoming s little annoyed with this whole situation, Pitch didn't fight it when the shadows around him grew deeper to match his temper. They curled lovingly around his feet as he tersely moved on to summoning Black Sand capable of stringing needle and thread for embroidery. Then proceeded to start on a design tat was basically black on black. ]

Alright. I have a feeling I know what you will say, but say it still.

[ Even though Pitch is sitting there staring at the needle, thread, and waistcoat. ]

[He'd like to tell Pitch to knock it off, honestly, but-- well. He's a spirit himself, after all, and there are plenty of unpleasant things that exist in the realm he was born in. Things that feed on blood, things that prey on the lost and lonely, creatures that smother and break and destroy - but the thing is, all of them are that way for a reason, whether through the natural inclinations of their kind or through mistreatment during life before death. He thinks of the stories of fox demons who were hunted for their consumption of humans, and remembers above all one single comment: don't they have to eat, too?

He watches the black sand for a second, rather than Pitch.]

He's just a human, y'know? He's young and he's tired and he's got a lot to do. So if you get hungry or whatever and he looks like he could use a rest, don't go to him. [A beat, and then:] Come to me instead, okay? I mean, obviously he's still gonna want you to rely on him sometimes, but...

[If he could lighten Haru's burden just a little, that's fine. He doesn't like sleeping, anyway; a few nightmares won't ruin it for him.]

[ Well so much for suspecting what Kashuu was going to say. Pitch has been used to being unseen so long he's a bit out of practice, and complete shock is an expression he hasn't had much call for. ]

Do you understand what you're offering?

[ Pitch wasn't even sure where Kashuu slept. If sword-spirits slept. ]

The same thing Haruji did. [NOT UNTRUE-- but on a more serious note:] Yeah, I get it. But I owe him everything, y'know? It's my purpose to protect him, but since he likes you so much, it's not like I can be like "hey, stop that!" and not have any alternatives, see? So this is fine. [Holding up a finger!!] As long as you don't tell Haruji. That'd just make him worried even more and then all of his hair would fall out. [After a second's pause for thought, he also adds:]

Umm— I sleep in the same room as two other people who definitely don't need any nightmares, too. That's not gonna be a problem, right?

No, no. That won't be an issue...

[Pitch trailed off in thought. The needle, thread, and waistcoat still propped up with Black Sand, and stitching a bit of abstract design as Pitch didn't seem to be paying attention.]

Haru will figure it out. He is far too intelligent.

[Well, Kashuu certainly can't argue against that. Haru's incredibly sharp-witted and pays very, very close attention to the things and people around him...]

You're smart too, right? Can't you figure something out?

[Strategizing isn't really Kashuu's forte, on the other hand.]

[ The corner of his mouth turned up in a little smirk. He could think of a way, but Haru was nosy so this would need to be just right...]

Perhaps. But if suddenly everything changes, and I'm just fine, but you look like you haven't been sleeping properly, there may as well be a neon sign hanging over both our heads.

Therefore it will have to be subtle. A gradual shift to you from Haru.

[Well, if it's just that-]

That's not a problem. It's not like I actually get tired in the same way humans do, y'know? I mean, it's like I kinda need to sleep but I kinda don't really? Like... I get hungry if I don't eat but it's not like I'm gonna starve - like that. [Waving a hand!!] It's not the same as a human at all.

[He's explaining it terribly but what he's trying to say is that he doesn't show signs of fatigue unless it's battle fatigue...]

Ah. Well, I suppose that is helpful.

[ Hey you spirit-types from other worlds were weird. No telling how things worked for you here. ]

It still must be gradual so Haru doesn't get wise to it.

[THEY ARE, it's true... But fortunately(???) his human body is fakeyfake and therefore doesn't actually need any of the things that humans find necessary to live... Like food! Or sleep! Or air, usually, not counting that rudeass jungle.]

That's fine. I mean, even then you won't be able to totally stop 'cause he'd get suspicious, but if you could just... I dunno, move the bulk to me, or at least enough to make a difference in his rest-- That should be okay, yeah?

[Gradual changes are harder to notice, but Haru's got a sharp eye for abnormalities in their daily lives, even if they appear after weeks - or months, as he's learned back home. He certainly doesn't underestimate Haru's mother-like ability to See All anymore.]
