Back home, in Ferelden -- not where I live now, much further away -- but back home, we had a farm. My father and I, we did most of the work together, and while neither of my parents were much cooks -- my mother grew up with servants, my father was... somewhere else. Sometimes the winters would be a bit rougher, we wouldn't be able to get much together for food, live on potatoes for weeks on end. Anyway, my father had the greatest way of making something from nothing. Used a lot of spices he would trade for instead of money, that kind of thing, and he had a knack for making the very best stew I've ever had. Chicken, beef, pork, whatever was available for meats. Never shared his recipe though, and I haven't been able to recreate it since -- though I've come close. Still, never again. That would definitely be my favorite food.
