[GOING FOR IT--so when Mary has dropped it and is safely out of range, she's properly opening Crescent Rose up to its impressive and unnecessarily large size and swinging it in a neat arc to slice the mask sharply in two.

No problems here! It clatters to the ground in two sad looking pieces.
