a: is a mistake involving fish a "fishtake"?

[ It's been a while, but after months and months of not being able to clean the fish tank, Kogitsunemaru has finally gotten around to it. Feeding the fish has always been an Adventure which has always involved many chewed pairs of steel-lined, elbow-length gloves and a bucket full of meat, but having a Saniwa around to repair any wounds has been really useful! Thanks, Haruji!

But no. It's time. It's time. He's been dreading this day. Even after the adventures outside of the colony, the library, and discovering the places underneath... no, this is much worse.

During one late afternoon, one will find him standing outside of one of the bathrooms, the sound of splashing water and hissing echoing throughout the second apartment (and probably every adjacent one as well). Kogi looks full of regret. Fishy regret. The kind of regret on his face that screams "ohgodwhatdidIdo", "Ichosepoorly", and "whydidIletitoutofthetank". ]

[ It's almost the end of the day, and the door is open to Kogitsunemaru and Nakigitsune's shared room. Inside is a plethora of fox-related things, from pillows to stuffed cubes and some blankets. Kogi is busy organizing it all--- shoving some of the things into a pile in one of the corners of the room. A veritable fox pile, as one might say. One bed is made, with one of the fox blankets spread out on top while the other one is left bare.

On the pile sits a fox Cybuddy, watching Kogi do his thing. If someone happens to pass by, the fox will squeak and the other fox will turn his head with some concern on his face. ]

... do you think anything is missing? One can't have too many fox-related things, after all.

[ Kogitsunemaru is probably bringing food home from the Kitsune Udon for other swords and friends! Probably some cake, too. He's also really getting into some cooking shows... seems like his current job has him interested in learning more about the making of food and not just the eating. ]

[Koumei has regrets as well, as soon as he cracks the door open to see what is happening in the bathroom that would involve so much water and to make sure no one is dying. His eyes widened when he caught a glimpse of that icthic abomination.

The gasp was audible. The way he maneuvered to hide his face behind his feathered fan was almost as audible.]

Mister Kogi-- what are you doing?

[Was he going to need to find the nearest (non-sentient) sharp implement to roll a one and stab himself in the foot take care of the beast????]

[ Wah! Koumei surprises Kogi out of his stupor, making his hairears stand up on end. He looks around for a moment, only to realize it's just the other man near him. Thank goodness. Still! Perhaps the little fox finally has found some backup in trying to get Fishy back into his tank... ]

Ah! Koumei! I was merely strategizing. [ He coughs, trying to look like he was deep in thought and DEFINITELY NOT REGRETTING ANYTHING. ] You see, I've been trying to think of ways to get our friendly guest back into its tank. Unfortunately, now that it's tasted freedom, I don't think it'll go back quietly.

[ More loud thumps, hissing, glass shattering, even more hissing, and then... a burp? Kogi looks at the ground. Rude fish. ]

[Very rude-- and those teeth were unnerving. Where in the city had a creature like this even come from...?]

So far the free handed approach doesn't seem to be working. Do you need one of the blankets from the cabinet? A harpoon?

[Because, clearly, a blanket and a harpoon were on the same level of dangerous.]

... a harpoon?! But I don't want to hurt Fishy. Hotarumaru would be upset if he came back and found his pet was hurt.

[ It's true. Hotarumaru was the one who initially brought the alien fish to Swordhaus, but he disappeared a short time after. This left Kogitsunemaru to pick up the slack and carry on the torch! ]

A blanket would be wise. Perhaps if I cover its eyes, it will think it is night and will fall asleep.

[ He smiles cheerily, though it fades as he hums with a thought. ]

Do fish sleep, Koumei?

[A flat look. If Koumei had access to his research facilities, then the relative life of this Fishy would be a moot point. He could retrieve a talisman to prevent it's body from decaying and allow it to continue moving-- an undead Fishy, so to speak.]

While it's true that I understand a great many things, I can't say that I know much about fish biology. Especially if it's a fish that was born in an unknown place.

The only way we may learn is through application-- shall we?

[KASHUU RECOGNIZES THAT SOUND. Kashuu recognizes that sound... Even ages after Hotarumaru's vanished, he still remembers his first wild event and both of them just being like "you know what sounds like a great idea? Catching this smallish alien fish", and then... doing it.

He remembers the teeth marks that had to be buffed out of poor Hotarumaru at the end of the night, too...

So naturally, when he hears that awful sound, he's trotting over to find the source! And there's Kogi!! Kogi, standing in front of the bathroom... Kashuu stands off to the side a little, like he's afraid the thing might come crashing through the door.]

Do we seriously still have that...?

[He just sort of ignores its presence to the point where it's kind of a blind spot!?]

Yes. I've been taking good care of it! Fishy's been really great until recently. I was going to reward it with a nice tank cleaning, but now it seems that it rather just have the bathroom.

[ At least, Kogi is definitely thinking about putting up a sign that says 'Fishy's Room', but having to share a single bathroom with an entire apartment (regardless that it's not full) is kind of a pain. Kogi needs his personal time in the mornings, he needs to brush that hair--- one hundred strokes with a special implement! ]

... it's really strong, Kashuu. I never realized how powerful a fish can be, especially one that doesn't seem normal. And it keeps smiling at me, like I'm food or something. Do fish eat metal?

[ He nervously puts his ear to the door. It's gone oddly quiet... then BAM! The door shakes and Kogi winces, pulling away. Ugh, he hecked up. ]

Of course it's really strong! It's an alien, what did you expect? That thing left bite marks in Hotarumaru, you know.

[HE WAS THERE, HE SAW IT!! It was terrifying and he never wants to experience something like that again, honestly...

But when Fishy crashes into the door, even he jumps a little.]

—What the heck is it doing in there?! Did you put it in the bathtub?

Well, obviously. It didn't fit in the sink!

[ And it's not like Kogi would just drop the fish on the ground and let it flop around. It'd probably do more damage that way. ]

Bite marks are easily fixed. Thank goodness we're not human, right? That would be really unfortunate, I think it hungers for the flesh of the living.

[ Where did Kogi learn this phrase? Thanks, television. ]

Look, it was living in filth. I had to do something that wasn't letting it go free... it loves us! I think!

[ CAN ALIEN FISH LOVE?... ]

GIVING KOGI A DUBIOUS LOOK. Both for his bizarre sudden display of popculture knowledge and because he's like 99% sure that fish doesn't even have a heart to love with.]

I dunno about that. [Considering they stole it from a pond and potentially stabbed a relative?! Even if it was for a good(???) cause... They had to get Shishiou's poor nue back!! But maybe this alien fish never found out about that alien fish's demise because it was too busy being carried in a soup bowl back home with Hotarumaru.]

Anyway, you're not gonna get anywhere if you just let it take over the bath. Maybe between the two of us, we can catch it. You already cleaned the tank out so we can just move it back in there, yeah?

[Hearing a bit of a rustle, Vietnam moves into look at what Kogitsunemaru is doing. Once the CYbuddy makes some noise, she'll greet them both.]

Goodness, Kogitsunemaru, what are you up to?

Cleaning the room a bit while Nakigitsune is out. It's been a nice way of not thinking about recent events, you know?

[ He picks up one of the cubes and squishes it against his face. It's so plush! Too bad it doesn't make any squeaky noises. ]

You see, Naki and tiny fox and robot fox all sleep in the pile. I think they all feel more comfortable being surrounded by warmth and fluff.

[ And he'll gently toss the plush in his hands over to Vietnam for her own inspection. ]

Hmmm... [She nods slowly, it really is a good reason. They just needed to do...a lot of different things.]

A pile though? I suppose that would feel nice. [And supportive, during such a stressful time. She catches the plush cube and then...well she guesses she should do the same as he did, and plants her face into it.]

Oh! How soft!

Naki found them in a store not too far away. I ended up going back and buying out their entire supply! [ Of like, 4. ] Most of the stores that had fox things, we've been able to purchase their stock.

[ He hasn't even opened the closet. Besides clothes, it's a surplus of the vulpine variety. ]

I was thinking maybe we could give some of these things out to the other spirits. The morale around here has been... ah, it's been better.

[ Kogi feels like he's one of the few that still go out. Apparently a lot of bad happened, but Kogitsunemaru was mostly okay. After all, he had Ishikirimaru to rely on. ]

Oh! That is very fortunate. [She is expecting a lot though because he said "whole stock".]

They...they do look like they've seen better days. Was what recently happen...severe? [Really, she saw what happened to Tsurumaru when they were surrounded by mirrors. But she didn't think it could happen to so many of them. She should've guessed.]

[It's almost the end of the day, and Nakigitsune's just come in with a little shopping bag in his hand. Not the grocery kind of shopping bag, though. No, he comes over to the door, watches Kogi straighten out all the stuff in their room, and - when he asks about missing things - holds the bag out towards the older fox.]

Nakigitsune actually found something today, to add to our collection! We hope you like it, Kogitsunemaru-dono.

[ His eyes widen as he takes the bag and opens it up! What is this beautiful fox plush? How come it wasn't in Kogi's life earlier? It's so cute! Looking around, he has no idea where they could put it... it has to be kept safe. Not that tiny or robo fox would chew it up, but still! It's so precious! ]

Naki, you certainly found the best kind of treasure. A fox treasure.

[ Pulling it out, Kogi gives it a squeeze. It's not too firm, but it's not too soft. Perfect! ]

[An important thing to mention! But ah, Naki looks around the room...where to put it? There's so many things, so many places...hm.]

[ The greatest compliment, to be compared with a fox? Then again, Kogitsunemaru is already a fox! A small fox, even though he's quite big? ]

Hm! Alright then. Let's see.

[ Sitting on the bed, he places it next to him and grins. ]

Do you think we share similar qualities?

[A small fox for a bigger small fox!(?) Naki looks at the two of them, sitting on the bed, and...]

You're both very white, Kogitsunemaru-dono!

[ tsuru comes back to visit, sometimes — usually to return empty containers of the food that kashuu had brought for him, or something like that — and on his way back out, he hears all this hissing and splashing from the second apartment, and does he dare open the door...

absolutely! when you're a sword with a death wish, you go head-first into these things!

so the bathroom door is open now, and what tsuru sees is one drenched kogi, and one........... well... is that a fish sword spirit? but it looks super pointy!! he's excited, and it's clear through how he speaks — rather than sounding scared, he sounds completely intrigued. ]

Koooogi, what is that? Can I touch it? It looks so sharp!

[ Kogi is happy that he's been able to get Fishy more-or-less under control! Heck, the tank was heavy to begin with but it seems that the alien fish has been growing. It's not too big to fill the entire case, but wow, has it grown since Hotarumaru disappeared! Not that Kogi's been ignoring it, but that it's nice to reflect upon good, not-being-chewed-on times...

But with Tsurumaru popping up so suddenly and Fishy not being one to take to strangers lightly... well! It hisses, frowns, bares its teeth, wiggles its fins, and starts to thrash about! And Kogi has to take cover, leaping out of the bathroom and slamming the door behind him. ]

... ah, Tsurumaru! [ He groans and coughs. Whew. Fish Wrangling 101 is hard. Thankfully his vessel is safely in his room not too far away. ] You are a sight for sore eyes. And I would advise against touching Fishy, it doesn't like being felt.

[ he looks a crestfallen when kogi closes the door... while uncle kogi surely has pure, protective intentions at heart, poor fishy is still trapped in the bathroom, behind that door? the #freefishy campaign of 2016 is very here and very alive, with tsuru at its heart. he's also left his vessel tucked safely somewhere that isn't here, so both of them aren't in any immediate danger. ]

But that just makes it even more exciting.

[ life-threatening excitement! there are some angry, slappy noises coming from the other side of the bathroom door, as if fishy is doing its very best to wriggle from the tub to the exit, and even though the lack of water weakens it, fishy is still powerful! it fights for independence! those noises are a bit worrisome, however, so tsuru gives the door another glance, then looks at kogi, a bit curiously. ]

Can it chew through the door?

[ Is today Findependence Day? ]

I suppose so. Still, one cannot be too careful! I heard it left marks on Hotarumaru, when he was around. Apparently it fit in a nice tiny bowl at first, but now...

[ It's almost like Fishy can hear him talk, thumping the door affirmatively and Kogitsune winces. Even if it wants to be free, where would it go? Who would it eat in its way? And who would receive the blame? It better not be Kogi! He'll be happy to throw someone else under the bus, he likes getting an occasional headpat from other! Nothing will threaten that...!!! ]

You know, I'm not sure. I also don't want to find out. I need to get it back into its tank and back somewhere safe.

[ Safe as in 'hidden in a closet' or 'the end of a hallway'. Kogi won't let it near any of the foxes in his room! ]

Do you want to help me out, Tsuru? It might be dangerous. I don't want you to get hurt!
