[Souji's presence, smiling and killing and fighting in a way that was a hair too familiar for comfort, hadn't been concerning until he drew close. He could have been an enemy, but he might not have been. He could be coming near to attack, or he could be preparing to offer aid, or he could have simply been wrapped up in the moment and the carnage and didn't realize his own approach.

Though the latter option seemed unlikely.

Whichever it was, he was more troublesome than not, because the closer he came, the more Yamato had to keep an eye on him. Just in case this unsettling neutral party became an enemy.

And then he speaks, and Yamato very nearly turns his sword on him out of surprised reflex before the words sink in, that there's an exit to head to, and the enemies will... come back. (Which was more an inconvenience than anything else, and anyway, wouldn't it be better to fight until they stopped?) Oddly helpful from a stranger... unless the exit itself was a trap of some kind.]
