"Rolling in the mud is a good start." Is he being sarcastic or serious, one may never know... because everything is said in that same tone. "And if you'd tripped or stepped on slightly uneven ground, you'd have taken a bullet to the face." Which is to say that while he was aiming above Duo's head, he wasn't aiming so high that an accident wouldn't have gotten the braided pilot killed -he just trusted him not to do something that stupid.

There is another option, though. "Take off what you can, dampen the scent on what you can't using dirt or mud until there's a chance to rinse it out." This is the point where he's going to turn to walk away. "And unless you intend to become dinner for that thing when it ultimately comes back, and quite possibly with friends, I'd suggest moving."

He's not going to invite him to come along. He'll just assume that Duo knows he can if he wants to.
