Kaz owed Shiho a delicious home-cooked meal for two. Shiho owed Minato...well, a lot. She refused to tell anyone but Kaoru what it was, of course, but it's clear in the way her stance softened minutely around him that she believed she owed him that, at least.

So what better way for Shiho to enjoy this sudden influx of genuinely nice people than to invite them all over to her and Kaoru's apartment? The more, the merrier, right? It all starts out innocuous enough, with chips and chocolate and Mario Kart in the living room area while they all wait for food. Except Kaz was never told that the intimate dinner for two had long become a dinner party for friends, Shiho was using her psychometry to cheat while playing (because there's no way anyone can be that good), and a certain lolicon was never even formally invited.

Oh, and any game involving espers somehow always manages to devolve into all-out war. Wait. Is that someone hanging around outside the window?!

[Kaz was beginning to look pretty amused now - hah, seemed like he had the upper hand here. A rare yet pleasant surprise. He turned away from Hiro's flustering, picking up the knife again to resume his veggie chopping]

But, y'know, if having your sexuality questioned bothers you so much, you should probably tell Sad Duck to tone it down. He really gives off the wrong impression.

Or, rather, he feels the back of his neck prickle like he's being watched, and his hand paused where it was holding an egg above the brim of the mixing bowl, peeking over his shoulder at the kitchen doorway. Hm, no intruders inbound, then what...

Slowly, Kaz looked the opposite way to the window. There, in all his gnashing furious glory, was Hyou-Kyou's face pressed up against the glass like he was in some sort of slasher film. Kaz blinked very slowly, briefly wondering if he was hallucinating before realising that, no, Hyou-Kyou was indeed creeping outside a girl's kitchen window with a rather terrifying expression. Well then.]

...Hyou-Kyou, t'hell are you doing.

I'm not giving up. I'm just gonna chill out behind you, out of attack range.

[Indeed, once Yoshi was dumped back on Rainbow Road he puttered forth once more, though he seemed content to coast in fourth place, watching as Shiho picked her next victim]

Woulda thought that, y'know, since I've catered for this party and all, you would've given me like a pity win or something. [He tutted, but the slight upward tilt of his lips betrayed his amusement. Seemed he really wasn't that mad about getting knocked off] Mimi really is a heartless carnivore after all, huh...

[ Now that he's been seen, he teleports into the kitchen and clutches the front of Kaz's kitty apron. ]

[ Somebody sounds, uh, jealous. But of whom? ]

[Hiro couldn't help and think "Why did things come to this..." Dealing with Saiduq was like juggling ten headaches while riding on a unicycle... If he had to describe it for himself. He lets out a huff before he relaxes and tries to compose himself a bit. Ugh, that was an embarrassing slip of the cool heroic composure that he tries to set.]

Well, I do try sometimes... But he doesn't seem to listen to me. Everything I say goes right into one ear and straight outta another.

[Minato already knows what Shiho can do with her psychometry, so he's not particularly fussed when his Yoshi gets sent flying over a chasm by a meticulously placed green shell deliberately launched to his right a second before he had swerved there. If at anything he looks almost too resigned staring at poor Yoshi until he's pulled back up, even if he's back in the race immediately after.]

Great shot, Shiho-san. [His reply is perfectly quaint, much like the dog that's sitting beside him and watching the screen with interest.] If only Koromaru could play too...he looks really interested in this.

[Thank the lord Kaz was braced for some sort of explosion, what with Hyou-Kyou's terrifying expression, because otherwise that egg he was holding would've ended up in the esper's face just from him flailing out of surprise from the manhandling.

As it was, Kaz jolted, blinking rapidly at Hyou-Kyou who was now very much in his personal space and clutching at his kitty apron. Um. Okay. What the fuck? How do you react to a very obviously jealous Hyou-Kyou screaming traitor at you? Why was he even doing that?? Uh someone please help??? Just what????]

[What was he jealous of? Him cooking for Mimi? Why would he-

Hyou-Kyou. [Recovering quickly in the wake of this revelation, Kaz huffed and tried prying the esper's grasping fingers off of his adorable kitty apron] Just 'cuz I'm cooking for other people doesn't mean I'm a traitor! You're not the only person in my life, y'know!

[He cooked for other people than just Hyou-Kyou! He cooked for Minny, for William, and for Mimi now, apparently too...]

Sounds like someone else I know.

[Kaz didn't even bother to mutter this under his breath, the noise of the knife hitting the chopping board echoing through the kitchen]

Well, whatever, I'd say go with it. He's not half-bad to look at, and his committment is kinda endearing in a way? Those eyelashes are something else though. Does he use maximum volume mascara on them or what?

The good news: at least he lets go and springs back away from Kaz.

[Unfortunately for Hyoubu, Kaz looked highly sceptical of his denial. He sniffed at him, lifting his hands to smooth down the rumpled creases in his apron Hyou-Kyou's rude manhandling had caused. Honestly...]

Uh huh. So, uh, why're you flying in here shrieking like some cheated on wife then?

The one thing he likes about this place is, despite the Empress's best efforts, the "lolicon" moniker hasn't stuck. No one calls him that. As annoyed as he gets at being called "tsundere" or "Major Hyou-Kyou fetish," he knows that Kaz calls him that for fun, and not because he thinks Hyoubu is actually a pervert.

But for him to actually admit that the reason he's so upset is that Kaz is apparently dating The Queen or The Empress... Well, that would confirm the lolicon thing. Except he isn't!!! He's rightfully protective, like a parent or something. A really obsessed parent.

So it's probably for the best that Kaz thinks that Hyoubu is jealous of him. Except that opens up another can of worms...

[ He spins around and peers at the stove, lifting up the lid of one of the pots. ]

[...okay you know what, Kaz is just going to roll with it. He just didn't have the mental strength to deal with whatever insanity Hyou-Kyou was huffing this time]

That one's curry. [Giving Hyou-Kyou one last look, he turned back to what he was doing previously: the beginnings of cake mix. Huh, the egg he had earlier was miraculously intact...] I'm also making a salmon dish, still deciding what dish exactly but... well, I'm also making stew too. Plus, another curry that's on the spicy side, also a cake - maybe two if I get the time. Ah, I also want to try this recipe too! It's for a meringue pie and I've never tried making that before, so, uhm, well, it's only if I have time after I'm finished, and if it's bad I won't serve it, but, it looks fun to make at least. Eh, hey, do you think lemon would be best with it? That's a thing, right? Lemon meringue pie?

[Ah, it seemed the more he was chatting the cheerier he got. It seemed Hyou-Kyou's redirect really was successful...]

Ooooh, that's quite the feast!

[ The more Kaz prattles, the more Hyoubu's eye starts to...twitch? ]

[ The problem with this whole redirection business is that the person most in need of redirection is Hyoubu himself. Still, he manages to cloak his fury in a show of teasing cheerfulness, as he grabs a spoon and starts helping himself to a taste of the curry. ]

Huh? Well, yeah? I kinda want them to think it's amazing-

[He's stopped when he realised that Hyoubu was dipping into his curry! Ah, how sneaky!!]

Hey! Get out of my curry! [Kaz immediately moved to scold the esper via gentle cuffing about the ears] It's not ready yet! [Huff!!!] You can have it with everyone else at the party!

...you are here for the party right? I mean, I'm presuming Mimi or Koyo invited you since you were loitering about like a weirdo.

[ His shoulders come down and his expression smooths out and sighs, clearly relieved. ]

[ ....but he still downs his spoonful of precious, precious curry. ]

[Kaz was effectively distracted from Hyoubu's weirdness by his shameless curry thievery! How rude! He said it wasn't ready either!]

Stay away from my curry, you damn vulture! [This time Kaz was a little more aggressive with his shooing, swiping at him with unsheathed claws to make him back away from the precious curry] You wanna get banned from the kitchen?! 'Cuz I'll do it, y'know! Bam! Banned! Now go bother Mimi or Koyo while I finish!

[HMPH!!!]

[ He teleports out of striking range, and reappears an instant later, in a different spot. ]

I'm just trying to help! It's a lot to do for one person.

[ Hyoubu's a helper. That's what he is. And right now he's helping himself to a spoonful of the stew. ]

[Kaz was beginning to sound like a harassed mother with how he flustered after Hyoubu, once again trying to shoo him away by a well aimed swat at his hand with his claws, knowing at this point that he was never going to land a hit on the wily esper. Still, he could keep him away if he stayed on his toes]

If you wanna help you can start by working and not mooching! [Wow. Kaz lecturing on mooching...] So put that spoon down and get over here before I- before I burn all your hair off, nerdlinger!
