(4/this is literally a fanfic)

[ It's also not something she can shrug off as easily as their encounter in her apartment. The build-up is similar, as build-up often is: talking rapidly leads to stumbling, which leads to one or both of them embarrassing themselves, laughing it all off, and then settling into the easy rhythm of back-and-forth chatter (she'd never gotten around to showing him how to make that sandwich), occasional sniping, and banter.

The Moment he arrived at her door with flowers was the moment she knew he was screwed.

The Moment her hair lit up around them like the white gold core of a sun on her kitchen table was the moment she knew she was screwed.

Still, she'd tried her best to avoid him at school in the weeks leading up to then. Her first rule after the hooky incident was intended to prevent her from seeking him out if she didn't have the time and it lasted four days. Work, school, extracurriculars, friends, life – no matter how many interesting subjects in the wide, vast world she could find, none of them seemed nearly as interesting as Jaune.

Then she tried to tell herself that she would spend her lunch hour with a different group of friends every day - something she's still succeeding at, as far as all her friends save the alien ones more or less know each other already. Only somewhere along the line she'd started making ten minute text message chains with Jaune into twenty minute chains. Then thirty. Until all she'd done during lunch the day of their First Official Date was talk to her goddamn date.

He's a large part of why she'd gotten so good with technology so fast!

By the time his lips were on her face she'd forgotten all about being embarrassed and wanted nothing more than to stop him talking and touching her. Far from solving the problem, of course, kissing Jaune back made both of these things 1000x worse. After that they'd both been screwed together. ]
