[ chat takes his own seat, and his response to ladybug’s clumsiness is… well, a curious perk of his cat ears, and then an even per…kier perk of the ears as steven puts him right on the spot. let's just say he’s never gone from yes steven!! to no steven!!! so quickly.

it probably doesn’t help that ladybug’s asking questions with her eyes and then directly while he’s still trying to piece together his explanation. normally he really is much better with words and truth than this (hello goodbye “smooth talking” chat noir), but admitting something that is possibly quite disappointing to someone he holds in the highest esteem is not as simple as you’d think!! apparently.

thanks for the kind of compliments though, bugaboo. it always warms him to get the little reassurances from her that he's a necessary companion; it grounds him... even if it does sting somewhat, in this case, given what he's about to admit to her. regardless, index finger and thumb pressed together, expression slightly playful and: ]

My jokes are an acquired taste.

[ gosh.

so what he's just stalling for a bit more, sue him. chat'll straighten up in his chair now with a little exhale, indicating that he's getting to the heart of the matter. ]

... Steven's not just right about our amazing teamwork, though. [ butter 'em up before you crash into the wall, exploding into a million tiny pieces!! ] There's... a lot I have to tell you.

[ okay. ]

It's— well, first, when I say it'd be nice for you know him, it's not just that. It's also important. And when I say you can trust him, Ladybug, I really mean it. I did. Do, so...

[ okay. he's stalling again, but in a different way. indicating his reasoning; not the entire motivation behind his decision, because that was a build-up of big and small situations. in the end it's just his final choice that matters, however, and he's not about to make any excuses.

so, adrien takes another breath, fiddles with his ring, his head slightly ducked. ]

... I told him. I'm sorry.

[ though it's not really "i'm sorry i told him," but more "i'm sorry i betrayed your trust."

there. it's out there. ]
