1. Toy guns are better than practice swords

( When you arrive at the dojo for the day, you'll be greeted by two things: a toy gun and an ominous note taped entrance, )

Two things ☆ 1. This gun and ammo are yours 2. I have one too and as soon as you open the door... IT’S ON!!! Good luck (｡•̀ᴗ-)✧

( And sure enough, the moment you open that door, you'll be greeted by a barrage of styrofoam bullets. There is no way whoever is shooting only has one gun! But then again, if you wanted an advantage, maybe you should have gotten up on his level like a hundred and fifty years ago. )

2. It's all fun and games until--!

( Congratulations, guys. Y'all sure did cause enough damage! Sheesh, this was just supposed to be for fun and here you guys went off and broke through one of the paper doors. Honestly, it's not the first screen Mutsu's broken since being summoned so he knows how to fix it but he sure is complaining because this wasn't supposed to happen, )

Eeeesh! Ya didn't have to get all serious!

( Despite his whining, he doesn't sound too upset. Someone clearly had fun. )

3. I can use a sword too! Just not now.

( Mutsu isn't at the dojo very often, at least, not compared to other swords. He's rather elusive given how he has a habit of avoiding certain swords and swordsmen that hit hard but tend to hit Tosan swords even harder. That's discrimination. That isn't fair. Mutsu knows his rights. He's innocent until he's proven guilty and you can't prove a thing if you can't catch him! And look, he's not naming any names but they know who they are and Mutsu is a simple sword that never wants any trouble even if he would totally fight all of you punks at once if he had to.

And that said, once everything's begun to clear out and you all have resumed your practice, he'll linger around to watch a bit. Man, who the heck even is this punk? Mutsu comes into this sword house with his guns and doesn't even have the propensity to train? He's just playing with that nerf gun and-- did he seriously just fire a shot at you? )

... What?

( He sounds completely innocent. )

I'm helping ya train.

( It's important real world practice. )

[...It was amazing that Koumei had made it to the Dojo of his own volition at all, but Doudanuki's firm presence and odd company had become almost pleasant at this point. Sure, the sword's manner was as rough as always, but there was something that struck close to home with that roughness.

It was familiar. He didn't need to worry.

The nerf gun, on the other hand, was entirely new. Picking it up curiously, Koumei hefted it in his hands to become acquainted with it's weight and mechanisms before reaching for the door.

--Of course, the barrage of foam bullets was met by little more than a blank look.]

Ah, an ambush. I should have suspected that.

[ owain wasn't expecting the dart to fire at him right when he was about to practice a new SPECIAL MOVE the likes of which that nobody has ever seen before. he could feel the move charging up inside him, ready to be unleashed. but the dart threw off his concentration and all he can do is take a moment to look crosseyed as he stares at the dart that is now sticking from right dab smack in the middle of his forehead. ]

Is that so?

[ he considers the proposition. based on what he saw today, a gun is simply a more advanced bow and arrow, capable of firing multiple shots without the need to reload. it would be good for practice, he thinks and he just lets out a grin ]

Are you capable with that, then?

( He sure did get some nice shots in there! But Mutsu is just going to duck behind a wall and call out, )

Can say I didn't warn ya!

( Man, that was a good shot. He's pretty proud. )

Hmm.... ( He's twirling that nerf gun around his finger casually and looking pretty thoughtful about his answer, even if he knows exactly what he's going to say. ) I guess ya could say I'm not too bad.

( "I guess." )

[HE MADE A MISTAKE, HE MADE A HUGE MISTAKE BY COMING TO THE DOJO TODAY... What else is he going to do, though?! Break routine?? No! He's got students that need help and promises to keep and slackers to scold! And now apparently also Mutsus to hunt down.

But foolish Kashuu both 1) doesn't bother picking up the gun that had been left out, and 2) doesn't expect to walk right into a barrage of foam bullets. ARMS UP, DODGING TO THE SIDE, SCREAMING LOUDLY, all pretty much status quo.]

What the hell d'you think you're doing, dammit?!

( Wow, what was that really uncute language, Kashuu?

Mutsu pauses. He actually stops in his unrelenting hail of styrofoam bullets. )

[newtimes]

( Oh, it looks like he was just reloading because the next second, Mutsu's appearing from behind a screen on the other side of the room and firing another round at Kashuu. )

I warned ya! C'mon!

[adornmental]

[Look, sometimes he just slips--

BUT OH BOY, the rain of bullets returns and Kashuu is now weaponless and also at a loss because there sure aren't a lot of places to hide in an open dojo. He's basically tucked in where all of the shoes are, for now...]

Your warning was stupid! This entire thing is stupid!! What're you even trying to do?!

[newtimes]

( Its ok, Kashuu. Every time you slip, Mutsu will be there to catch you when you fall. )

's not my fault ya didn't wanna listen! ( Another break as, once again, he has to reload. Man, how many styrofoam bullets does Mutsu have... the answer is a lot. ) C'mon, think of it like training! Real special training!

[Mutsu will be there to remember when he falls, more like. PUNK.]

I didn't listen 'cause I figured you wouldn't actually be this dumb! [NOW HE'S SUFFERING FOR IT...

But when the pause for reload comes, Kashuu's scrambling back toward the front door. Is he going to escape?? ...Nope. No, his foolass, competitive self is driven to grab the gun that was left out even though he's pretty much Destined to lose this battle.]

Get out here already and stop messing around! I'll give you one chance!

[MUTSU.

Whether he intended to hit Lili or not, whether she just got in the way of his aim trying to hit someone else or just had bad timing, she's now furious. Her hair is still askew from the madness earlier, she's entirely off-schedule, and she has a lot of pent-up aggression to work out even though she was released from the hospital a little bit ago. So when there's just one more fired shot crossing her path, she's losing it.

And she's stopping whatever she's doing to lunge at Mutsu to completely tackle him, every violent streak in her body pretty much being set on fire.]

Buffoon! Idiot! Chaotic troublemaker!

[He was supposed to be coming here to train Koumei. The kid was actually doing okay at his practice and not hiding out from it as much as Doudanuki thought he might at first. Maybe his threats to pull all the hair from his head were working or maybe he actually liked practicing. It's a fushigi mystery.

As are the toy gun and note taped to the entrance. He usually tries to come early to work out before he has to train anyone, and so he's stuck looking at the door like it's gone insane. Who the hell would put a toy at the dojo?? And such a weird one???

And why does it say "it's on"?? What's on??? Is the gun on??? Will it explode???

Doudanuki rips the gun and note down, pushing the door open with a loud and disapproving grunt.]

Who the hell pu--

[INCOMING.

He barely has time to register the incoming hail of horror before several of the darts slam into him. Doudanuki throws himself back out of the dojo, pressing his back up against the wall, but a lot of the darts are now stuck to his shoulder armor. Now he looks like a black and yellow porcupine.

He does not want to be a porcupine. He is a sword dammit!]

What the hell! Who's in there!

[THOUGH APPARENTLY...Vietnam is Mutsunokami's backup and sidekick here, and he's given her an artillery. But before that, she's loading some up while he's taking down another target. Or trying to.]

Did you get them?

[No; he had received ample warning, but he was hoping for an opportunity to become acquainted with his 'weapon' before shots were fired. Gathering up the foam darts for posterity's sake, Koumei mimicked the posture he had seen Mutsu use before when he was firing a gun. Locking his eyes on a target and keeping his hands as steady as he could manage, he fired--

--And missed the spot on the wall by an exceedingly wide margin.]

No, you did, [Koumei said, sighing.] This is going to be a unique venture.

[And here he was dressed in the loose white robes he liked to train in, not at all anything that would be helpful with this.]

[Contrast: Yamato is at the dojo very often, even compared to other swords. And okay, maybe that's one reason why Mutsu is so scarce, because he's totally guilty until proven innocent, he just knows it, but damn if the guy isn't difficult to pin down!! He absolutely knows who he is, and knows Mutsu does secretly want trouble, and come at him already you shitty punk.

He'd even played the stupid nerf gun war. Kind of.

Okay, so he'd spent more time despairing over the state of affairs in the dojo and trying to run damage control, but. He hadn't been unarmed, at least. That would have been stupid.

But now, things could get back to normal - he thought - and people could train properly - he thought - and all the nerf guns had been put away and/or destroyed and/or disposed of - he thought.

Incorrectly, apparently, as a foam bullet bounces off his shoulder and he shoots a withering glare over towards the obvious offender.]

You are not, Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki.

[newtimes]

( Yes, yes, that's it, Koumei! Even if he totally misses, it's still a good attempt and Mutsu let's out a loud laugh, )

You got it, you got it! C'mon, ya got six more shots!

( Mutsu says as he reloads his own nerf gun and comes out from behind the screen, striking a dramatic pose and aiming straight at Koumei! He has a good shot so when Mutsu aims for Koumei's chest, it's going to go right for the chest. )

( True, true. He might not catch Kashuu but at least find assurance in knowing that Mutsu would never drop Kashuu if he was certain Kashuu wasn't going to be okay. And if he wasn't okay, he'd definitely ask first before snapping the next embarrassing photo. )

What're ya talking about? ( Yelling from behind the screen, ) I left a note and everything so why wouldn't I?

( He'll pokes his head out somewhat from behind the screen to see what Kashuu is scrambling to do and yesssss, that's it, that's it. In response to Kashuu's demands, he says nothing! He only fires a shot right at Kashuu's face. )

( That sure was a battlecry. He's pretty sure that wasn't a regular shriek. It was definitely a battlecry. )

( She's lunging right for him and he's scrambling off the ground and trying to make his escape except he was definitely just sitting on the ground, chilling out, relaxing, and acting all cool when he had to get up to go good and get into one little fight.

His escape, in turn, ends up being an awkward half escape. He's half off the ground but it looks like she's managed to grab onto his lower half? Ugh, let go of his fake tail, Lili. )

Wait a second here...!

( What's up, Porcupine-kun??? Gosh, that was pretty rich... and Mutsu is just going to casually but swiftly start reloading his toy weapons while Dotanuki gets his bearings again outside...

Just to make Dotanuki extra mad, he makes sure not to respond and takes the moment to also find a new spot to shoot at Dotanuki when he comes back in. )

( Of course, Vietnam, did you ever doubt him? )

Dunno why everyone keeps walking in unarmed, though.

( Exactly, why come to the dojo when Yamato and Kashuu are much more disciplined and clearly have everything under control except Yamato. They don't need Mutsu around. )

What? Ya think I hit ya for no reason?

( It was actually an accident? He was testing to make sure these guns would fire properly and the styrofoam bullets weren't all bent up and he just sort of accidentally aimed at Yamato? Some times he's so good, he underestimated himself. #CantBeContained )

I'm better than that.

( He isn't. )

[Hey. Hey now. Yamato has Yamato under control, it's just his definition of that kind of differs from others' sometimes. Not his fault.]

[He'll... actually believe that it wasn't an accident. Partially because there's no way an accident could have that kind of dumb luck and partially because he totally thinks Mutsu would rather start shit than be totally innocent.]

( Mutsu never starts trouble. Trouble always comes looking for him instead because he is also trouble personified and easy to find but hard to catch. )

I got better things to do than picking a fight with you.

( Waving one hand in the air dismissively and with his other hand...

He fires another shot at Yamato casually, )

[...Whatever the cause, trouble follows in Mutsu's wake, so he might as well have caused it, as far as Yamato is concerned.]

[See! See, he knew! You were out to get him!!

Luckily for foam bullet-kun, dojos are not the place for live steel, or else he may have been cut in two. Instead, Yamato was left to bat it harmlessly to the floor when it's fired.]
