[OPEN] bird bird's the word
Who: Yusuke 'has a furby for a soul' Urameshi (
fingerbanged) & YOU!
When: IC - 7/4 for the first part, anytime through 7/14 for the second | OOC - 5/8 and until the interlude, probably??
Where: A CERESbucks close to one of the apartments, and then anywhere/everywhere in Cerealia!
What: A trip to the local coffee shop grants Yusuke one (1) penguin-shaped Spirit Beast! Also a catch-all throughout the month for anyone who wants to meet/run into Yusuke and his smol creature.
Rating/Warning: YUSUKE BEING YUSUKE aka chances of bad language, punches, and generally bratty teenage boy-isms, sprinkled with cute flying pudgeballs getting into people's business
A: Would you like to make that coffee order a combo? (7/4)
[Ah, coffee shops.
The strong smell of a good brew filtering through the air, a quiet atmosphere with unobtrusive music, lots of comfortable seats and adorable pastries... a perfect place to center yourself before a long day at work. Or maybe you're catching up with some reading and studying for school? Perhaps you're just waiting in line for some coffee, a quick pick-me-up before other errands or something to put the spark of life into the tired shell called a body.
Unfortunately, that peaceful lull is about to be broken, as a small, blue penguin-like creature flutters wildly out of one of the bathrooms, making loud 'PUUUU!!' noises of distress. It flaps haphazardly around the shop, slamming into tables, upsetting cups of coffee and plates of croissants, getting tangled up in a few unlucky customers, much like a fat, agitated pigeon. If one was spiritually keen or able to sense auras on things, the animal feels exactly the same as someone else in the store right now, who is currently dropping the iced coffee they were nursing in shock at the sudden chaos.]
P... Puu? Why're you--??
[At the sound of his name, Puu beelines for Yusuke, divebombing into his arms and letting out a happy cry. Yusuke looks down at his spirit beast for a moment, dumbfounded, before turning his eye on the aftermath.]
... oh jeez.
B: You're like a 'get people into danger' tour guide (7/4-7/14)
[Wherever you are, whatever you may be doing-- meditating, going shopping, eating a tasty sandwich, disposing corpses... er, robot pieces-- you're going to have an unexpected companion joining you! Maybe Puu will be landing in your lap, or stealing a piece of bacon from your burger, or conveniently sitting on top of that last scrap of helper-bot you need to destroy... it's all relatively innocent, even if it's a bit obtrusive. Whether or not Puu's made too much of a nuisance of himself, though, it all ends the same... Yusuke running up and scooping the tiny blue penguin-thing away, looking mildly irritated.]
Dammit, how'd Keiko even keep an eye on you in the first place? I'm gonna have to find a leash for your fat ass if you keep doing this crap!
Anyway, er... sorry about that. Stupid thing's still getting used to this place.
C: Wildcard???
[Basically this is a catch-all log for most of May in regards to Puu, so if you want to plan anything aside from this, hit me up over at
Urameshi!!]

Not that they didn't find some common ground the last time they had talked, which a more sentimental person could have called 'bonding', but he didn't exactly forget how sharp she could be. If anyone here was going to figure out just what Puu was, it was her, and the less time Rei had to make the connection, the better.
He scrambles over to where she was meditating, hoping to extract Puu and get the hell on out of there, but the piercing glare, along with the tight hold on his Spirit Beast, made him flinch back. Welp. He was screwed.]
Look, in my defense? He has a mind of his own. I can't help it if he has really crappy timing.
[... that wasn't a real answer, you dumbass.
Meanwhile, Puu's beginning to wriggle and flail in Rei's grip, making a few small 'Puuu!' noises in distress, and Yusuke nods over to him.]
Now, can you let him go? You're gonna pop the poor thing.
no subject
I won't hurt him. But I definitely didn't want it running off to make more of a mess, you know.
[Once he does take back the little guy, she lowers her arms and cocks her head to one side, studying first him and then Yusuke.]
Is he your familiar or something?
no subject
[Once Puu is back in his grips again, he tucks him under his arm, hoping he'll actually STAY there this time. It was tempting to tie him to a bag or something, much like a stuffed animal, but Keiko was the one who knew how to pull that one off, so...
He was getting set to make his escape before Rei could pick up on anything, but her words cause him to freeze in his tracks. He could try the CyBuddy excuse, but with how keen her senses seemed to be, she'd know that was a lie in a second. Did he really have to admit this was a reflection of his soul, though? Be smooth, Yusuke, BE SMOOTH.]
Psssh, c'mon. If I had a familiar, he'd be much cooler looking than this! [Like his usual form, which definitely was not this.] He's just, uh... a companion. From home. Yeah.
[Please don't study Puu's energy, PLEASE DON'T STUDY HIS ENERGY...]
no subject
Well, he's got the same energy as you. So, he's definitely not a normal penguin, or he'd read as a different being.
[Yep. A little late.]
no subject
It's official, he's boned. Totally, absolutely boned. It was one thing for his friends to know back home, since they were around for his hatching (and Botan couldn't keep her mouth shut to save her life), but here he was, in a city full of people who didn't know him, where he could at least pretend this wasn't embarrassing.
However, considering he already shared another thing he was hiding with her, and visa versa, maybe it was better to come clean. It's not like she couldn't tell, anyway, and maybe, just maybe she wouldn't make fun of him for it.]
That's, uh... because he's a Spirit Beast, if you got those things back where you're from. He's kinda tied to me in a lot more ways than one, sorta like a goofy, penguin shaped reflection.
no subject
I understand, after a fashion. [She looks up and whistles, and from a perch in a corner, a pair of enormous crows flutter down and land on her shoulders. The birds bow to him before settling against Rei in an obviously affectionate way. They have a similar aura as her own, though less heated and more guarded.]
I have animal companions of my own. Not directly linked to me, but closely tied all teh same.
[A pause.]
What's it's name?
no subject
He studies the birds who alight her shoulders, having taken a brief notice of them before but hadn't really observed them until now. They were definitely not the same as Puu-- the energies were slightly different than hers-- but it was surprising to see nonetheless. The aura she had was oddly unique-- he wasn't sure if he came across any human beings with energy that hot-- so seeing it shared with the crows brought up a whole other slew of questions. Just what was she, anyway? Spiritually gifted, sure, but was there all to it?]
... his name's Puu. Creative, right?
Anyway, he's... supposed to be a piece of me. Or, at least, how I'm supposed to be, deep down inside. [There's a small snort.] Like I'm a cutesy blue pudgeball, right? I mean, once I became a demon, he changed, into a phoenix kinda thing, but... I got no idea why he's like this again.
[There's a number of reasons, batting around his head, but he's going to ignore them for now, instead focusing on Rei's own birds.]
... those guys, though. You have a weird energy to you, and I thought maybe it was just something that was your kinda thing, but... why do they have it too? They're connected, you said, but-- did you transfer your energy into them or something?
no subject
She shifts a little, lowering her hands and folding them across her belly, eyes finally flicking back to Yusuke and off the little whatever it is.]
A piece of you. That's...interesting. [Though, it sounds like...] Phobos and Deimos are restrained like that too. They can take a humanoid form, but not here in Cerealia. It's likely CERES restrained him somehow.
[And there. There's the million dollar question. Rei does not let her consternation show, her face staying relaxed. She's gotten used to this now, here, but it's always enough to set her teeth on edge. Just people skirting close to her divine form...now that Usagi is here.
But at the same time, Yusuke is pretty harmless. She can tell that much. Strong, dumb, a typical boy her age...but a little more adept and cunning. And he didn't think she was crazy.]
I didn't. That is...not a story for a public venue though. I don't mind sharing a little. But not where just anyone can overhear.
[Her head jerks back towards a supply room.]
In there.
[Turning, she walks rather briskly back towards that door and slips inside, leaving it cracked for him.]
no subject
Why the hell would they do something like that, though? It's not like he's any different in THAT form, just--
[But as he speaks, the answer already pops into his head.]
-- bigger. Ah. Actually, for once, maybe that was a good call after all. Definitely don't got space for his huge ass in my place.
[But before he could grill her more about her own birds, her cagey answer and actions stalled them in his place. Was the explanation really that sensitive? Yusuke had more than his fair share of secrets and history that he wasn't eager to share with other people here-- what had went down in ViViD, the long, ridiculous story of his powers, his demonic heritage-- so he couldn't exactly judge Rei for keeping her own, nor was he going to share whatever she entrusted him with. Besides, how could he think she was crazy? She was probably one of the few people he's met here so far who had powers similar to what he had, as well as his friends back home.
... although this whole 'talk in a secluded room' thing did feel a bit dodgy.
He follows after, Puu in tow, easing into the crack of the door and shutting it carefully behind him.]
... look, I know we've shared a lot and all, but I'm not quite sure we've reached 'side closet trysts' levels in our relationship yet.
[...........Yusuke. This is the worse way to lighten the mood oh my GOD.]
no subject
We've shared next to nothing. And if you talk to me like that again, you will regret it. You know full well why that comment is inappropriate.
[Slights to her dignity were one thing. Bad jokes that could even be construed as undercutting her feelings for Minako were something else entirely. Especially this soon.]
You're nervous, but spare me the stupid comments.
[She whirls, moving away and still bristling like a furious tomcat. Was this just a mistake? Was it wrong of her to want to share even a little bit with someone who had similar energy? Had she just misjudged him? The air around her begins to heat a little, shimmering and roiling subconsciously.]
I have someone that I have to protect, and if one of my enemies arrived here, it would be a problem for them to know too much about me. I prefer to keep the nature of my abilities private, and that's easier when people who have no grounding in the supernatural just assume I'm psychic, or some sort of witch. But you know better, don't you?
[Her fingers twitch, her mouth pressing into a thin line.]
You know I'm no demon, so, what do you think I am?
no subject
Alright, jeez, I'm sorry, okay?
[And as she marches away, there's a muttered something underneath his breath, involving sticks and their removal from certain people's asses. And here he thought he might have gotten the wrong impression of her when they first met, but nope-- she was definitely way too uptight for her own good. The heated energy was starting to roll off of her again, drawing his attention. Maybe it was better to keep his mouth shut for now and listen, if he wanted to find out anything about her abilities.
His eyebrows raise at that admission, however, not expecting it to take that turn.]
Well... you're human, right? I mean, I thought maybe you were a talented psychic and all, since you're more attuned to ghosts and stuff, but...
[And his brow furrows, as he's trying to pick up more on her energy.]
... it's weird. From what I know, humans don't really specialize in elemental sorta energy. It's one thing when you're like-- a fire demon, or an ice demon, or hell, even a kitsune, but there's definitely a five alarm aura you have going on there.
But aside from that, what's the big deal about hiding it? If you share it with someone you trust, they'd be pretty crappy to spill the beans to random strangers about you, especially evil ones.
no subject
I'm not human, no. Not wholly. The reason I don't share it with many people is because there's always the possibility that an enemy arrived it they might be spying. The kinds of beings I've fought range from an immortal sorceress to several dark gods, who could probably set something to watch me. Hence the need for privacy. I don't feel anyone else here. I really, truly, cannot take chances while I have someone to protect.
[She exhales slowly and gives him a muted smile.]
But I want to trust you. So, I'm going to. You told me about your energy, and Puu, it wouldn't be fair if I didn't show you the same measure of trust.
[Folding her arms, she stops restraining herself. Fingers reach up to touch her breast, and it blazes with the light of the Mars Crystal. May as well just get this part out of the way. The energy there is just like the rest of her power, only...more of it. So, so much more. The power of a planet, the light of an unborn star, and something eternal. She lets that radiant strength fill the room for just a moment longer before letting it go.]
I am, or was in a past life, the Goddess of Flame and War. The ruler of Mars, and a guardian of the solar system. So, I'm human, but not at the same time. A little like you and your heritage. Only...the celestial version instead of the infernal.
no subject
Yusuke's energy wasn't anything to sneeze at-- it was intimidating, intense, tricky in it's exact nature (due to his mixed blood), but strong enough to flatten a city if he really wanted to. But Rei's? The energy she had unleashed was blistering, scorching-- almost suffocating. At the same time, however, it felt massive, boundless, something older than a lot of the things he had encountered back in the Demon World.
It was enough to cause him to sink down onto one of the nearby boxes, almost in awe, and it took him a moment to realize Puu was fluttering about, letting out loud noises of shock, before he nabbed him and brought him back to his level again. He was familiar with Gods-- or, at least, Koenma, and probably Raizen. But this was entirely different from what he could do.]
... wow.
[Really, what does he say to this? It was good she didn't show him her senshi form-- that probably would have been too much all at once.]
I can't say that was what I was expecting, honestly, but... it makes sense, I guess. I'm, uh... glad you put enough trust in me to show me something like that, though.
[And a thought occurs to him, and he makes a face.]
But hey, let's get one thing straight-- I'm not a reincarnation of anything, okay? It was more along the lines of 'demon granddad and human grandmom had a fling and I won the genetic lottery a ton of generations later' sorta thing. I don't know if your deal is quite the same.
... and while we're at it-- you keep mentioning 'someone you need to protect'. Who are they exactly that someone with your kind of power has to watch after them? Are they a God or Goddess themselves too?
no subject
My mistake. [She can admit being wrong. Nobody's perfect...] It probably is different, then. I'm not sure of how it all worked out in my case. There was so much involved. A few thousand years, magic more powerful than I can really explain, and the sacrifice of something much bigger than me. But...here I am.
[And there's that question, the one she didn't really like answering. But he wasn't asking for a name. She wouldn't tell him about Serenity. But...]
The person I'm supposed to protect is the Princess of the Moon. I am one of her royal guards. I was in the past, and I am in the present. She's younger, less experienced, and I'm the only one of the court here with her now. So, it's my fate and destiny to protect her.
no subject
That's a helluva lot to have on your shoulders. Can't you recruit other people to help keep her safe with you? Ease the load off a little? If there's anything I've learned in life, it's that fate and destiny can be a load of crap, and nothing ever goes according to how people plan it to. I'm a living example of that, quite literally.
I mean... if they're strong enough, and you told them what you told me, I'm sure they'd be happy to pitch in. That, or you can teach this Princess of yours how to fight, but I can get that you don't want to risk getting her hurt, either.
no subject
And she’s strong in her own right, just…so you know. She’s like me, only…our timelines aren’t synced up. She has power, just four years less experience. [Rei does smile at that, Usagi so eager and full of energy.]
But seriously, thank you. Nobody’s ever really offered to help us so directly.
