Who: Daughter!Marinette (
buginette) & Daddy!Steven (
geophile)
When: Backdated to IC 7/1, after Marinette's freak out over her missing Crush
Where: Some quaint high tea place with sandwiches and cupcakes laUGHS
What: Steven invites Marinette out on a lunch date to get her mind off matters, which will most likely (d)evolve into consuming way to many freshly baked sweets and an inevitable chit-chat about her ~*feelings*~ for one (1) Adrien Agreste
Rating/Warning: Cavities from too much sugary sweetness, i guESS?
[ growing up in a bakery, no one knows better than marinette how food can help lift a mood, even in the most trying of times.
and, the disappearance of the Love of Her Life definitely constitutes as a "trying time."
so, when steven so kindly extended the invitation to do lunch, she was not reluctant in the least to accept, even when the gps pin revealed that he had chosen the very same café in which another incident (read: trainwreck) involving him took place. what are the odds, right? cerealia really needs some more variety up in hurr.
nonetheless, it has been a Day already, and marinette just wants to fill her tummy (COUGHand purseCOUGH) with something sweet to calm her feels, of which she has quite an abundance after the blur of the past few hours. without a second thought, she makes her way inside and spots steven sitting at, coincidentally, the same table as their previous encounter, er, rather, his encounter with ladybug. no bad jubies there, right? ]
Hey, um I made it! [ she offers a brief wave of greeting before immediately heading over, collapsing into the chair opposite from him as if her bones were made of lead. and no, you totally did not just hear a tiny "oof" just then, whatever do you mean? ] What a morning.

Hey, um I made it! [ she offers a brief wave of greeting before immediately heading over, collapsing into the chair opposite from him as if her bones were made of lead. and no, you totally did not just hear a tiny "oof" just then, whatever do you mean? ] What a morning.

a proper gentleman is always punctual, so he shows up a bit earlier from their promised time to reserve a table. when he spots her, he waves. ]
I'm glad you could come. [ he was going to pull her chair out for her, but... well, that works too. ] It's been a bit eventful, hasn't it?
no subject
That doesn't even begin to cover it! ... but I guess all we can do now is wait, right?
[ a tinge of hope imbues the final word of the clause it hangs on, transforming what should have been a rhetorical question into one expressing her optimism for a more desirable response than the one given prior. the adrien force is strong in this one. ]
This whole thing is just the cherry on top of all this craziness lately.
[ mm, cake. aaand there goes her stomach growling again, oops. ]
no subject
The timing certainly isn't the best. We'll just have to see what happens on the third.
[ but that's enough moping around. he's not here to attribute to a bad mood, so he smiles. ]
But let's keep all that craziness out of mind for a little while, shall we? You look famished. [ he pushes the menu to her. ] Order as much as you like; it's my treat.
no subject
[ the response is forced, trailing off into more of a sigh than anything, as marinette retracts her limbs with menu in hand, wriggling her bum to scoot backwards in her seat until she is in a comfortable, proper sitting position. ]
Whoa, really? [ well, at least that simple gesture gets a small smile out of her. ] You're the best, Steven! Oh, but you've already done so much to help me out lately...
[ she is eyeing that mini-cupcake set pretty hard right now though. ]
no subject
[ while he wouldn't call her a "friend" just yet because of his own Issues with forming proper bonds with people, marinette is certainly someone he wants to watch over. he can see a potential and strength in her eyes that he sees in adrien, and that's something that he wants to learn more about and foster. she may not be a trainer, but he's used to doing as much for budding youth. ]
I think we both deserve some time to recuperate, don't you agree?
[ he'll be ordering himself a cup of tea and some finger sandwiches himself. food sounds pretty good, tbh. ]
no subject
You can say that again. [ she rubs the back of her head, face a little flushed with embarrassment. ] Sorry for always being such a mess...
[ if you insist, WELL OKAY. one cupcake set with iced oolong tea and a side?? of chocolate chip cookies??, please. yeah. gotta figure out how to discreetly dump those in her purse later. ]
no subject
[ it's certainly interesting to watch, especially when he contrasts it with himself. steven only finds himself really moved to express his emotions when it comes to rare stones and steel-types, but marinette approaches everything with an admirable enthusiasm. ]
Besides, you proved to me in our first meeting that you're quite capable of being put-together under pressure. You should have some more confidence in your abilities.
no subject
N-no, it's true. Even my best friend says my clumsiness is legendary. Once I walked into the boys' bathroom because I was trying to find Adrien.
[ ughhh why did she just admit that? see. point proven. ]
I wouldn't say anything like that! I mean, I guess? [ what is accepting a compliment? ] Besides, it was you and Metagross that got us out of that one in the end. I'm just silly old Marinette. There's nothing special about me at all.
[ el oh el. ]

[ LOVE YOURSELF, GIRL. he can appreciate modesty (seeing as he regularly has to exercise it himself), but he knows that there are times where one has to take pride in oneself. from what he's observing, marinette could use more of that. ]
But as I recall, you were the one who came up with the plan. You analyzed the situation and thought on your feet - not everyone can do that.
no subject
It was nothing, really. [ all in a day's work. ] I'm just glad we made it out of there alive.
[ though, given that it was actually a game, did it even really matter? ]
You're pretty cool yourself though. No wonder Adrien speaks so highly of you.
/2
I'm flattered. Thank you. [ he's just fine with taking that compliment, tyvm. ] But if I can give myself any credit, it is for being observant. My intuition is rarely wrong, and it gives me a good feeling about you two.
no subject
Coincidentally, it also gives me an idea of when somebody is hiding something.
no subject
she stiffens, and, if the slight movement of her purse resting against her thigh were any indication, so does tikki.
well that escalated quickly.
marinette tries her best to hold steven's gaze so as not to raise any (more?) suspicion, but the struggle is real. as luck would have it though, their orders arrive at that very moment. saved. ]
Wow, this looks delicious! I can't wait to dig in.
[ ladida trying to steer the conversation awaaay. ]
no subject
I realize it may not be something you want to talk about, but be rest assured. I've noticed.
no subject
gonna give those cupcakes quite the staredown as she sweats this out. ]
......... okay, you got me. [ a feigned sigh follows, perhaps a bit too exaggerated. ] I guess I do eat a lot for a girl my age, huh?
[ effort is being made here ok. ]
no subject
[ he might not be receptive to jokes being told to him, but he can tease with the best of them when he has the means to do so. he'll relent after a little bit, but not just yet. ]
no subject
time to feign innocence. ]
Sorry, I don't really follow... I mean, I'm not hiding anything? Nope. Nothing at all! No siree, nothing worth hiding here. Zip, nada, no way. What would I even be hiding anyway?
[ SWEATSWEATSWEAT ]
no subject
Oh, I beg to differ. I've seen it with my own eyes, and I've come to my own conclusions.

You... have...?
no subject
well, may as well face the consequences... ]
— look, just... don't tell anyone, okay? Especially Adrien.
[ if he found out she were ladybug, he would probably be angry at what a big fake she was and never talk to her again, leaving her to become an old crazy cat lady who talks to shoes and drinks so much tea that her teeth fall out!! :( ]
no subject
Goodness, no - I wouldn't dare. I'm well aware that the affairs of a young lady's heart are not to be trifled with.
[ because that's what they're talking about. ]
no subject
[ —wait, affairs of the... hea r t ? ?
oh.
oh my god.
not that it was a ~*huge secret*~ anyway, but her cheeks flush redder than her kwami. ]
Is it really that obvious?
[ like she really needs to ask. ]
no subject
Like I said, I'm observant. It may not be as obvious to others, [ read: adrien ] but I've taken notice of it. Rest assured, I won't tell a soul.
no subject
I wish I could just tell him how I feel, but it's so difficult!
[ aka she always seems to mess up every time she works up the resolve to confess, but details. ]
no subject
What do you find difficult about it?
[ not!dad also has the romantic experience of a literal rock, so he'll need some explaining done. ]
slides back in here all casual-like...
Well, I mean... what if he rejects me? [ or, where the real crux of the issue lay— ] That is, what if we lose our friendship because of it? It'll all be ruined because of me being selfish...
[ being a teenage girl is super hard, not!dad. :c ]
kisses ur forehead
[ hm... it could make things awkward, to say the least. he's thinking about this methodically. ]
I think I understand. In that case, it may be wise to hold off until you can predict how he feels in return. From there, you can act accordingly.
