At the very least, the path slopes gradually upwards, which means it might really be a way out. If she follows it for another good half hour, she'll be able to find a ladder and hopefully get out of the underground area, which will deposit her right into one of Cerealia's streets.
Strangely, if she tries to go back underground after that, the manhole cover that has replaced itself over that entrance absolutely will not budge. But hey, at least she survived -- she was only gone for a good 5 hours or so, too! ]
