[ It's almost remarkable how Yu - no, not Yu, this isn't him, not really him - so easily hits right on Dipper's fears for his friend. Isn't this the exact reason he'd tried so hard to be strong when he was in the hospital after the jungle? Or when he'd come back from the dead? Or when he hadn't told Yu about his second death at all? Dipper was aware. Aware that he could never know what Yu was really feeling all those times Dipper had gotten into trouble. All those times he hadn't been able to save him.
But that was the exact problem, wasn't it? Dipper didn't know, but what leader wouldn't bear the wound of failure after those kinds of things happened to one of his charges? ]
Is - i-is that really what... [ He's small. His voice is small. His features are small. Is this really how Yu saw himself?
And once again...it's my fault.
Dipper tells himself to think through this. Any monster - spirit, demon, possession, whatever - can be defeated. He has to think his way to a solution. But accomplishing that is particularly difficult when someone he trusts with his life is telling him he isn't fit to be trusted with it. ]
