if anything, he wants to play down the issue as much as possible. it's bad right now, because he knows this means there will be lingering suspicions and cause for them to butt heads over the matter later. but that terrible curse is the shinsengumi's burden, and he's still a little bothered that he had to share it with someone else already—even if it's not here, he still has no idea if that will somehow follow him and bite him in the ass. he's trying to avoid a repeat of that, but this situation really isn't any better.
