A phone is basically a communication device. It allows people to talk to one another over large or small distances instantaneously. As long as the person you want to talk to has a corresponding device and number, you can talk to them anywhere at anytime. Think of it like how you would write a letter to someone, you would need their address in order to send it to them. In this case, their phone number would be the address and instead of writing out your message, you can say it to them.

I think they included everyone's number so it would be easier for us to contact one another. This is actually a more advanced model than what I'm used to, but it does make things more convenient.
