I can't speak for other worlds but where I'm from, humanity has quite a few safeguards against complete destruction. Some of these safeguards are powerful enough to kill other planets if necessary. While I'm not among those who are that powerful, I'm one of those safeguards and I can assure you, I don't remember combatting any destructive menace.
