hiccup "not ALL dragons" h. haddock. ([personal profile] allthreefourths) wrote in [community profile] estoria 2015-03-26 05:44 am (UTC)

[ goodness. it's with a hint of fatigue that hiccup and toothless are walking around. while the not!snoggletog carnival itself may have been a point of wonder at some part of the night, the lights and the questionable rides were a bit of a sour turn of events and, as hiccup's found... maybe so many people and so much noise was a little exhausting after a while.

so, he thinks maybe that's why toothless's stopped, ear-fins raised and entire body frozen as if looking for something. he doesn't think much of it at first, only offers a small hand on a scaly side to calm him down, muttering something along the lines of "I get it, bud, we'll leave soon"....

... until the dragon completely runs off in the direction he'd been staring at, and when hiccup turns in bewilderment at such a quick and departure that he's hardly ever seen, he suddenly understands. because now he's frozen too, as he thinks he catches sight of what toothless was so interested in.

the familiar dragon is one thing. the dragon's owner, who he knows so so well--is another.

all at once he feels a thousand and one emotions. relief and homesickness he knew he had but had been trying to avoid rushes into his chest; before he knows it, he's running right behind toothless. from behind astrid, the sound of rapid footsteps, before a familiar dragon bursts into the scene, huffing low sounds of excitement and slobbering astrid with licks, smiling toothlessly at stormfly.

hiccup slips in slowly as that big bundle of distraction is happening, gaze shifting between astrid and stormfly and back to astrid.

and, finally, he finds his voice: ]

That-- [ ah, no, the words are stuck in his throat that time. try again. ] That, unfortunately, doesn't wash off.

[ that's a joke, but it's not said with the same lighthearted, sarcastic tone he might've normally said it in. there's-- a lot there, maybe it's a little hoarse, as he tries to take everything in.

astrid is here. astrid is here, and he knew he missed her, but it looks like he didn't understand how much. ]
