OOOH I JUST DIED IN YOUR ARMS TONIGHT
Who: Saitou
iaijutsu & Okita
tuberculosis
When: Tonight?
Where: Their apartment.
What: Bloodlust makes life awkward.
Rating/Warning: Not terribly platonic touching, probably. idk I'll update this.
[It's late by the time Saitou returns for the day - night, now, but sometimes, even when he doesn't have anywhere in particular to be, he feels like he ought to be somewhere else, like even after the time they've been apart and even with as glad as he was to see Souji again, there's still a distance that they're never going to bridge and if they stay in each others' presence for any longer, the elephant in the room is only going to get worse and worse.
Sometimes, it's easier to just take off for a bit, before he secondguesses too much and makes things worse.
It's never enough to keep him away for long, though - because despite everything, having Souji back is a relief. Souji may not remember the things Saitou let down his guard enough to show him in Zelien, but he's still the only one Saitou was able to let down his guard that far for in the first place.
And so he slips back into the apartment later than he planned, when he really ought to have already gone to sleep given his insistence on keeping regular hours, even if instinct keeps telling him that it's only around now that his day ought to really be starting. But as soon as he opens the door, the atmosphere feels tense and heavy and wrong, and when he slips into the bedroom and sees Souji in the corner, he knows exactly what the cause is.]
...Souji.
