He doesn't, not exactly, but that response gives him an idea. Armin puzzles over it for a moment. Does that mean Mika might be dangerous to know in the future? Will Armin want to be cautious? That's what he'd like to know. He glances over curiously, trying to think of the best way to ask.

"For a while?"

[ ...wait, what? ]

[ he's about to say something about that making no sense when he remembers this is ViViD and nothing ever makes sense. sigh. ]

...Okay, then I guess we can run.

[ he motions for Armin to follow him in the same direction they were running before, and then off he goes. this is going to be really fun running and talking. ]

[Ah. Well, that's less amusing already. Armin stares off into the distance, straight ahead. It's the best way to answer a difficult question without calling too much attention to the fact that it is one.]

Shiganshina. Have you heard of it?

[The answer is almost certainly no, so it's fine. She won't make that face at him that people usually make when they hear that name.]

Mika really doesn't know how to answer this. He shouldn't have said anything in the first place. And does he really owe Armin an explanation, anyway? But since he already did bring it up...

"How hard is it for you to go without eating?"

Not that Mika particularly likes to think of it that way himself... Except it really is exactly the case. If he went without blood for long enough, his ability to ignore that craving would diminish to the point of being nearly impossible to control.

"It depends."

That's not a particularly good response, but it's the truth. It becomes easier with practice, and Armin has had plenty. It also becomes more difficult when expending a lot of energy. Whether or not vampire metabolism works the same was a s a human's, the point is made. The man will need to eat at some point. The silence is uncomfortable this time, the pause is heavier than the last one.

"I've never done it intentionally."

That, he suspects, must be far more challenging. Being denied is hard enough, but to have the food at hand and will himself not to eat it? It seems like that would require a lot of willpower.

[That's a predictable outcome, isn't it? Armin still looks a bit miserable as he follows- and then sprints right past. He stops when he gets to the edge of his previous field of vision. His legs give out and he he sprawls in the mud, splayed palms and ribs heaving. Ow...

He's not worried that it will be difficult for Captain Levi to catch up. It's only a matter of waiting until he does. He probably ought to have explained his particularly ridiculous predicament a little better.]

Yeah the last chapter I read was like the cavern Eren was being held in was gonna collapse I think?

To perhaps make matters worse, almost as if to make up for their lack of desires for other things, a vampire's craving for blood is considerably more intense. It's not remotely uncommon for even a vampire who's fully sated to be unable to stop himself from drinking his next victim dry. Mika himself has far more self-control than most, but even he's come dangerously close in the past to losing that control.

Not that he particularly likes to think about that, of course.

He just gives a slight nod to Armin's response without saying anything more, however, instead turning to continue walking and looking for a way out of this place.

well, that was unfortunate.

he knew something weird was going on when Armin tore right on past him (no offense or anything, of course)—was he trying to impress him?—but then to fall flat on his face in the mud... it's hard to watch. this kid is having a really shitty first day. and he thought his own was bad...

after a moment of slightly stunned silence, he approaches Armin's filthy prone form. he hesitates briefly (he's never seen so much mud...), but then offers a hand to help him up. ]

I think you might be overdoing it a little.

Ah, I see. [Though Kaoru takes that pretty easily, since it's certainly not the first time someone with a different time-keeping system has shown up.]

Hm? How long have I had to adjust? I was a part of the very first group to arrive, so I would say that it's been... a year or so by now, at the very least. It's a bit difficult to keep track of time here, unfortunately. With the temperature and weather almost always controlled, we don't even have seasons to go by, normally.

Shee... gan? [ As it happens her expression is two parts hapless to one part confused. Rapunzel cocks her head to one side and the other as if trying to read whatever has just come into Armin's own face, which is difficult because he seems far away. Maybe he's tired of having to talk about a place he's not! She smiles, this time somewhat sheepishly. ]

No, but I'm not exactly an ace at geography. [ reaching to give his hands a squeeze ] Was that your question?

[ Disregard the last: she's a flirt, she just doesn't know it ugh. ]

Armin himself continues to fail at walking normally. He huffs in frustration on his next attempt. He's so exhausted, and this is ridiculous. It's making the conversation a lot more effort to keep up with as well.

"There are creatures... at home... who eat...humans. They aren't...conscious...like you are."

There's more to the statement, more to be discussed. Instead Armin doubles up and hopes it isn't possible to throw up in a virtual environment. If he can just stop running, they can have an actual discussion.

[He's not ready to take that hand up yet, but Armin accepts it anyway. When he gets to his feet his legs are still shaking. He has to close his eyes and remind himself that it isn't real. The mud and monster slime the captain just braved for Armin's sake aren't real either, but the gesture is.]

I can't stop.

Oh...

[His voice catches a little in surprise. The idea of a completely artificial environment- that's- it's even worse than the walls. For a moment, Armin forgets to breathe. He stares silently for a long moment, stunned.

The color drains from his face a little, but eventually he gets a grip on himself and sucks in a lungful of air again. Right, well, that's how it is here. What good will it do to cry? He offers the man a slightly shaky smile instead.]

Then you must be knowledgeable by now.

[That's good. He imagines he'll need a bit of help sorting things out here.]

[He glances down at the hand she squeezes, so surprised his brain stutters to a stop for a second.]

What? Oh, ah. I... don't remember. I'm sorry. I guess I-

[Got lost in an old traumatic moment is the truth, but hardly the right response to give to someone he's only just met.]

I'm still a little lost here, too.

[And now his face feels hot, too. He hopes it isn't pink. He's never been as good as he'd like at hiding moments of weakness.]

Mika pauses to glance at Armin at that. What he's describing reminds him of the horsemen, but those monsters just kill humans, rather than eating them.

Not that Mika sees how it's any of his business to care, anyway.

"If you'd rather go at your own pace than try to keep up with me, that's fine."

Or in other words, Mika's not going to be particularly bothered by splitting up. But neither does he see any good reason why he should stick around and wait for Armin to rest or figure out how to control his running.

Ugh, is that all? It probably is. Who wants to converse with someone who can't even catch their breath?

Armin wipes some sweat from his face and holds his aching sides. "It doesn't seem to be working."

He's irritated now, on top of being exhausted. There's nothing to be done about it, but this particular failure is really unpleasant. He can't exactly blame the man for wanting to leave him behind, but he's not keen to allow it to happen either.

Armin groans quietly and starts back after him again, wondering exactly how far they have left to go. At this rate, he might just pass out here. What will happen to him then? He just doesn't know enough about the situation to guess.

"Please, wait?"

[ he sighs heavily, making an attempt to shake the excess mud off his hand after Armin's upright again. it sounds like frustration, but he's not intending to take it out on Armin. he just really, really hates this game. ]

I was afraid of that.

[ he gives Armin another once-over. this is going to suck. ]

I guess I'll have to carry you.

Now I'll just have to remember to STAY caught up... XD

He should just ignore it and keep going. Mika has no idea whether to believe any of what he was told during that weird presentation, but if there's any chance at all that Yu might be somewhere here, too, he needs to find him. Which means not wasting time here.

But he stops and looks back anyway.

"What for?"

[ zero would rather talk about challenges now, because challenges. but after a pause, they nod. ]

Which way?

I know a fair amount, yes. Not enough to be able to tell you anything of great use, but enough that it should help you get by day to day.

[Though that reaction was certainly bizarre enough to catch Kaoru's focus, and Armin gets a look that's somewhere between concerned and curious.]
