But seriously, the fact that I've kept him at bay this long is a freakin' miracle. I can't just say 'you work for me now.'

He managed to get himself imprisoned inside a mere human's body, didn't he? I think it's clear who's supposed to be the master around here.

You're just letting the things he say get to you, and damage your self image.

[He sighs and rubs the bridge of his nose.]

You're not getting it. I didn't imprison him. He chose to have his soul tethered to mine under his own power. His aim was to wait until my brother and I were old and strong enough, then his soul would take control and we would annihilate humanity.

We were pawns. We were literally born to be vessels for his soul and that's it.

We were means to an end.

[Muzét floats on past him. She drops close enough to the surface of the water that there's ripples being formed by her flying past, but she doesn't seem to be quite touching it. It looks like she's looking for something.]

If we go find you those pants you wanted so badly, will you stop being so sour about all this?

Oh, dear. I don't believe I'm familiar with that kind of fashion. Technically speaking, though, I would say those quality as pants.

[Darin can definitely keep up, and when he looks at the 'pants' that Muzét is referencing, he turns away.]

Nope. No way. I'd rather walk around naked. I'm not shy but I'm not putting on...whatever those are.

It reminds me too much of what I had on when we met.

[Not that he wants to remember what she was wearing at the time either.]

I don't know. What's the point of wearing any clothes? I only ever make these because you humans make things so weird when you see bodies without them.

The response was mostly to her first comment, but it also worked very well for the second. Eiji was running out of steam himself, but he could still make it another two streets down.

And that's when the vending machine came back for round 2, spitting a piece of machinery at his back.

"Go on ahead, get out of this thing's range!"

She gasped, hesitating only long enough to hear Eiji tell her to go on ahead. Turning, Chihiro summoned up her fourth wind to start running once more, heading down to the next street intersection, hunkering down near the corner of the building.

"Eiji-san!" Up ahead seemed clear enough, leaving her looking backward to see how he had fared in the vending machine showdown part two.

[She reclines in front of him in the air, quirking an eyebrow.]

And what does the way I look have to do with it?

[It doesn't sound like she's actually unsure about this. More like she wants him to say it.]
