Darin, what you considered "pumping you full of mana" was--

Well, first off, it was not mana at all. Mana is what you humans produce, and we consume. Spirit energy is what I produce, and you use. There is a difference between them, and it would behoove you to pay attention and respect that difference.

Second, that was not pumping you full to any degree. That was a small dose for you to manipulate and use for a single attack.

If that is all that it takes to set you off, then you are not controlling it fine. It is like a single spark setting off a room of explosives.
