More likely, it was something this city itself was doing; yeah, he'd heard about Christmas-time, vaguely. It definitely felt like this was on purpose -- the city going dark, the shadows and shapes flickering in and out of sight -- and those footsteps. ]

[He'll stop. He's terrified, but he'll stop and put on most nonchalant attitude. After all, even if he was afraid, whatever it was, it was just screwing with him, and that was more irritating than anything.]

[He'll start walking, humming the song to himself and singing a few of the words.]

[And he'll keep taking those careful steps home, humming his own tune.]
