![]() ViViD has opened up a new world that new arrivals will be pulled into while frequent players will be invited to check out. This particular setting is the new beta world that CERES is constructing in time for the Hallow's Eve celebrations and festivals. It's a world inhabited by the undead and several ghouls and monsters of typical horror lore. Inside, one will encounter werewolves, lichens, vampires, succubi, incubi, specters, mummies, and so on. They will be on the prowl and eager to attack, but players need only concern themselves with getting through and getting out. At first, players will awaken outside of a large manor supposedly owned by a wealthy noble who is rumored to be practicing strange alchemic experiments within. Many know him simply as The Count. New arrivals and those logging into ViViD will first find themselves being greeted by their guide at the start screen:

Welcome to CEREALIA's latest intro post. For your convenience, we have compiled a post detailing everyone's usual arrival experience (which is not entirely applicable this round for reasons stated above^) and a FAQ that should explain everything in more detail. Please read them thoroughly before playing. Thank you! |
phase iv;
somewhat impatiently, but she's used to it. she's just hanging out on a bench near the machines, kicking her legs as they dangle (because of course, they don't touch the ground) and waiting. it's while she waits that it happens. out of the corner of her eye, she spots a familiar form. the voluminous hair, the sword, the clothes. elle would recognize them anywhere, and further, she can recognize them as not milla maxwell's. because there are many distinct differences.]
...! [from where she sits, elle lets out a small, quiet gasp. was that even possible? was it possible for milla to be there when she was...? or was this just some milla from some other dimension that didn't have to deal with the same things that elle had witnessed for her? she's not really sure, but she's not thinking totally coherently about it, either. instead, she's hopping to her feet, slowly and unsurely tiptoeing her way to where milla is crouched over. tears are already in her eyes if only because this looks like her milla...]
Mi... Milla? [she sounds just as unsure as she looks, too. but she has to find out, because if it is her milla, and she can really be here, then maybe this place does have some good to it after all.]

it's elle in her shoes this time, isn't it?
milla's a bit too exhausted to get up just yet. her gaze, however, moves to elle after she has a moment to register everything. she's happy to see her, of course she is, but the comfort somehow feels foreign. yet it's a comfort still, and that's enough. more than she'd thought she'd ever get, even back then. ]
... You're all right.
[ not that she thought ludger would fail at protecting elle. that's her answer, however--the recognition is more than there.
as is the relief. ]
no subject
which means this is it. this is here, and it's real. elle doesn't even know how it could be possible for milla to be right in front of her. it's actually overwhelming, because she was sure she would never get to see milla again. milla maxwell had returned, and elle understands what happens to people from fractured dimensions when they wind up in the prime dimension. it weighs on her too, knowing the truth now of her own origins and what she was planning to do before winding up here.
that's stuff milla is going to have to find out later. right now? she's throwing herself into milla with a ton of force, clinging to her tightly and crying right into her.]
You... you really... have to keep your promise now.... [about the soup, of course. this is really just elle-speak for "you left us and life went to hell and i've been sad but you're here now" but babytsuns gotta babytsun.]
no subject
she doesn't know what they're going through, she doesn't know what's happening just yet, but. she can still offer some comfort, even if the pain is ultimately her fault. so: ]
I will. I promised, after all. [ quietly. a promise she didn't think she'd get to keep, but. a promise nonetheless. ] ... I'm sorry.
no subject
it's hard to know what it means, or how it's possible that milla's here. there are so, so many reasons why it can't last. what if milla maxwell shows up? or even more so the fact that at some point, they have to return. elle still needs to get to canaan, and she still plans on going off with bisley if it's not too late. elle knows her own time is limited anyway—she has no idea if her transformation into a catalyst will continue as long as they're here, but it already started. it exists and will finish eventually... elle knows that much.
everything is so limited. she's been putting most of this to the back of her mind these last few weeks; after her first few days of getting settled, she's done her best to put all the tragedies from her mind and do the best she can, even if just to keep ludger from worrying too much about her. she wants to do the same here, but it's a little more difficult, given how abruptly milla was gone, and how she never really got to say goodbye.
and maybe she never really forgave the fact that ludger was the only person who ever seemed even half as upset as she was. this milla, the one she's latched to is the "real" milla to her, always. of course, this is also why elle doesn't want to worry her too terribly much, either. so after lingering in that hug probably a little too long, she'll pull back and wipe her eyes... though she's still sniffling.]
It... wasn't the same without you, you know that? [which is also her way of saying that she missed milla a lot. it's hard to say still, though.]
no subject
one difference being that the hole left by milla maxwell's absence was much larger than one she could fill, and ultimately much larger than the one she'd leave behind. she struggled in a place that wasn't hers, and there wouldn't be a trace of it.
she realizes it was selfish to think that, foolish in the midst of elle's words, that she remembered so clearly. she didn't know the other one, but she was milla to elle. not maxwell, not a shadow of some woman she couldn't compare to--just milla.
and that's why she can still keep her smile towards the girl, hands still lightly on her shoulders. a smile, even when thoughts of her prime self's solemn nod are fresh in milla's mind. ]
I knew Mr. Second Best's soup was missing something mine's had. [ lightly. she doesn't... want to make things too heavy, but it's a little hard keeping her emotions in check when she was so rubbish at hiding them in the first place. lord of spirits, easily overwhelmed.
a pause. and then, quietly, she admits: ] ... I didn't mean to leave you.
no subject
[she says the words quietly—there's no anger or bitterness mixed in with despair, like there had been when they first lost milla. back then, she didn't have the same kind of understanding. elle didn't realize fully why a fractured person couldn't really exist in the prime dimension.
but everything that happened after that day on the pelune brought things together. seeing her father again, learning the truth of her own origins... and what her fate was meant to be. knowing that couldn't stay there, because one day a prime elle needed to exist. well, that and the fact that her slow transformation into a catalyst had started. she won't be able to hide that from milla for long, elle knows that. but rather than dump it on her abruptly, she'll slowly work into it.
regardless, she understands now more than ever why milla did what she did. she understands why that sacrifice was made, and why the prime milla had to be there. even though she couldn't at first, realizing she had to make the same choice put things into perspective... maybe even on a grander scale.]
You did it for me, and Ludger... and for everyone else in the prime dimension, right? Because... the other Milla is important, too. [still, when she says that, it's small and child-like. she's not necessarily happy about it at all, but elle gets it. probably more than she actually should.]
no subject
no, at that moment, her focus was entirely on elle. maybe it was just the situation--she hadn't had the opportunity to think about the bigger picture, the larger meaning of her sacrifice. in that moment, her "selfless" wish was for the girl's safety.
the girl who seemed to have grown, somewhat. milla really had been gone. things had happened, and she could see that. it really does make her situation feel more real.
without thinking, she speaks. ]
... You met her.
[ well, of course she did. ]
no subject
[as elle says that, her gaze is downcast and she falls quiet immediately after. obviously, she can't know what milla is thinking or feeling right now—she can only guess based on what she feels about her own similar circumstances.
honestly, elle's not even sure what to follow that up with. yeah, she met milla maxwell. and she was okay, maybe better than elle was initially willing to give her credit for. she's important because she's the lord of spirits in the prime dimension, which means a lot of people she cares about have to rely on that milla. the others, sans ludger, were happy to see their friend again. but to elle, none of that mattered, because they weren't her milla. but she isn't really sure how to convey that any more than she already has.]
I get it, but... I didn't want you to leave, either.
no subject
[ she knows. elle met that other milla, and elle's feelings remained. feelings that milla didn't really fully know were present when she was there--she had a feeling, of course, but she'd never thought her presence would remain. not to a large extent.
it makes all her previous worries so silly. not in the case of the others--there's still a certainty there, who they'd prefer, but it's not… like it matters right now, or ever. not anymore.
still… with elle right in front of her, she can't think of that. a small smile.
then: ]
Thank you, Elle. [ for remembering her, for caring, for allowing her to be milla. it really did mean more than she knew. ]
