![]() ViViD has opened up a new world that new arrivals will be pulled into while frequent players will be invited to check out. This particular setting is the new beta world that CERES is constructing in time for the Hallow's Eve celebrations and festivals. It's a world inhabited by the undead and several ghouls and monsters of typical horror lore. Inside, one will encounter werewolves, lichens, vampires, succubi, incubi, specters, mummies, and so on. They will be on the prowl and eager to attack, but players need only concern themselves with getting through and getting out. At first, players will awaken outside of a large manor supposedly owned by a wealthy noble who is rumored to be practicing strange alchemic experiments within. Many know him simply as The Count. New arrivals and those logging into ViViD will first find themselves being greeted by their guide at the start screen:

Welcome to CEREALIA's latest intro post. For your convenience, we have compiled a post detailing everyone's usual arrival experience (which is not entirely applicable this round for reasons stated above^) and a FAQ that should explain everything in more detail. Please read them thoroughly before playing. Thank you! |

one difference being that the hole left by milla maxwell's absence was much larger than one she could fill, and ultimately much larger than the one she'd leave behind. she struggled in a place that wasn't hers, and there wouldn't be a trace of it.
she realizes it was selfish to think that, foolish in the midst of elle's words, that she remembered so clearly. she didn't know the other one, but she was milla to elle. not maxwell, not a shadow of some woman she couldn't compare to--just milla.
and that's why she can still keep her smile towards the girl, hands still lightly on her shoulders. a smile, even when thoughts of her prime self's solemn nod are fresh in milla's mind. ]
I knew Mr. Second Best's soup was missing something mine's had. [ lightly. she doesn't... want to make things too heavy, but it's a little hard keeping her emotions in check when she was so rubbish at hiding them in the first place. lord of spirits, easily overwhelmed.
a pause. and then, quietly, she admits: ] ... I didn't mean to leave you.

[she says the words quietly—there's no anger or bitterness mixed in with despair, like there had been when they first lost milla. back then, she didn't have the same kind of understanding. elle didn't realize fully why a fractured person couldn't really exist in the prime dimension.
but everything that happened after that day on the pelune brought things together. seeing her father again, learning the truth of her own origins... and what her fate was meant to be. knowing that couldn't stay there, because one day a prime elle needed to exist. well, that and the fact that her slow transformation into a catalyst had started. she won't be able to hide that from milla for long, elle knows that. but rather than dump it on her abruptly, she'll slowly work into it.
regardless, she understands now more than ever why milla did what she did. she understands why that sacrifice was made, and why the prime milla had to be there. even though she couldn't at first, realizing she had to make the same choice put things into perspective... maybe even on a grander scale.]
You did it for me, and Ludger... and for everyone else in the prime dimension, right? Because... the other Milla is important, too. [still, when she says that, it's small and child-like. she's not necessarily happy about it at all, but elle gets it. probably more than she actually should.]

no, at that moment, her focus was entirely on elle. maybe it was just the situation--she hadn't had the opportunity to think about the bigger picture, the larger meaning of her sacrifice. in that moment, her "selfless" wish was for the girl's safety.
the girl who seemed to have grown, somewhat. milla really had been gone. things had happened, and she could see that. it really does make her situation feel more real.
without thinking, she speaks. ]
... You met her.
[ well, of course she did. ]

[as elle says that, her gaze is downcast and she falls quiet immediately after. obviously, she can't know what milla is thinking or feeling right now—she can only guess based on what she feels about her own similar circumstances.
honestly, elle's not even sure what to follow that up with. yeah, she met milla maxwell. and she was okay, maybe better than elle was initially willing to give her credit for. she's important because she's the lord of spirits in the prime dimension, which means a lot of people she cares about have to rely on that milla. the others, sans ludger, were happy to see their friend again. but to elle, none of that mattered, because they weren't her milla. but she isn't really sure how to convey that any more than she already has.]
I get it, but... I didn't want you to leave, either.
no subject
[ she knows. elle met that other milla, and elle's feelings remained. feelings that milla didn't really fully know were present when she was there--she had a feeling, of course, but she'd never thought her presence would remain. not to a large extent.
it makes all her previous worries so silly. not in the case of the others--there's still a certainty there, who they'd prefer, but it's not… like it matters right now, or ever. not anymore.
still… with elle right in front of her, she can't think of that. a small smile.
then: ]
Thank you, Elle. [ for remembering her, for caring, for allowing her to be milla. it really did mean more than she knew. ]
