wish we could turn back time to the good old days [ CLOSED ]
Who: Dipper & various hospital visitors, fellow jungle boogiers, and probably some sailor senshi
When: IC 4/7 and onwards
Where: The hospital, maybe other various locations
What: After his fun jungle adventure sends him to the hospital, Dipper has visitors to see him, apologies to make, and a new place to crash for a few days.
Rating/Warning: Mentions of death and gore
[ It's only after two and a half days of solid sleep in the hospital that Dipper finally wakes up, a throbbing haze lingering on his mind as the heavy memory of why he was here settles upon him. In the jungle, he'd been the last one lured by the hallucinations in the trees to a monster lying in wait. He'd been the first to fall in the ensuing fight. And it wasn't even the monster that got him. Wasn't that ironic?
Everything had fallen apart because of him, and of the injured, he was the only one who wasn't hurt by the monster. Go figure.
It takes Dipper several hours and an essential conversation with Yu before he's really ready to see anyone else. He's exhausted, mentally and physically, but he sets aside the gnawing desire for more sleep in favor of what he knows he has to do. He has to apologize, and for those visitors who weren't on the ill-fated jungle expedition, he needs to be okay. Or try to be, anyway. No one else needs to worry about him. No one else needs these circumstances to weigh on their mind. He created this, so he'd take on as much of it as he can.
Visitors will find him with his right arm in a sling, bandages just peeking out of the collar of his hospital gown. His trademark hat sits next to him on the nightstand, and beneath it lies the journal. Reflexively, he wants to tuck it away and hide its knowledge, but what was the point? What good was it doing him here? When he'd needed it most, it had been completely useless. So he leaves it set aside.
After a few days in the hospital, Dipper is finally dispatched. Before he goes anywhere else, however, he pulls out his CereVice. To the members of expedition team he hadn't seen at the hospital - Dipper couldn't blame them at all for not coming to see him - he sends our a short message that for all its simplicity takes him several minutes to send. ]
I need to talk to you in person.
[ And that's it. ]

The Sailor Senshi Place.
Hence the invitation to stay with her and her friends for a few days. It might be good to keep him from being alone with his thoughts, and Lacus the Panda CYBuddy and the two birds would be around even if the girls themselves weren't. It seemed solid, and when he agreed she'd whisked him by his place for clothes and then bundled him off to her apartment.
Sliding the door open, she drops a spare key into his hand and gestures to the rather simple looking place. Four bedroom doors, a balcony door, an open kitchen, and various home-y seeming bits of furniture like couches and chairs covered in thick quilts dot the spacious home.]
Here we are, Dipper-kun. My home is your home, for as long as you need.
[Stepping inside, she waves him in with a warm, welcoming smile.]
It's not much, but I hope it suits you.

He walks through the doorway, a backpack with his personal effects slung over his good shoulder - the other arm still rests in a sling. He pockets the key she gave him, taking in the sight of a warm, lived-in space. Yes, this would be much better. Even he realizes that. ]
It's great. [ And more than he deserves, but he had been too selfish to turn it down. Oh well. ] I really appreciate this, Rei.
[ Look at that, a smile! And one mostly genuine, too. ]

[Ami greeted, offering a gentle smile as she saw the younger boy. Rei had told her about the situation and Ami was happy to agree. She had already created a diet regiment for him to help him regain his strength and energy that would be easy on his stomach as well. She had cleaned up the extra-bedroom, making sure the bed sheets and pillow cases were washed as well as ensuring that she had bandages and other medical supplies on hand.
She had even gone shopping for some snack foods since they were running low on those as well.]
If you are hungry, we can have some miso soup ready quickly enough.
no subject
You don't have to - [ Well. Except the whole pretense for him being here was to let someone else take care of him for a little while. It's a little hard to swallow his pride - or what's left of it, anyway - but he nods. ] Actually? That'd be great. I'm starving. Hospital food is...you know.
[ It's not the best. ]
no subject
[She's not at all surprised that Dipper and Ami know one another. Ami had been surprisingly sociable since arriving, and Dipper seemed pretty easy to get along with.]
Dipper-kun, why don't you go put your stuff in the room on the far left, and we'll get the food together. Is apple soda alright again? I'm afraid I'm out of regular American brands.
[She does make a mental note to get some more Western flavors.]
And...since Ami-chan mentioned soups, I'll start preparing katsudon to go with it.
[Since that had to be better than hospital food, she agrees.]
no subject
[She smiled, glad to know she could make something that would help keep his stomach settled without being unhealthy.]
There dresser is completely empty, Dipper-san, if you want to unpack.
no subject
[ As directed, Dipper heads for the room on the far left, gingerly easing his backpack off his shoulder to avoid giving the other one undue stress. This is going to take some getting used to.
A few minutes later, he reemerges from the bedroom, unpacked, heading to the kitchen. ]

Rei goes into the fridge and starts pulling out some pre-battered pork cutlets and turns on the fryer and rice cooker. Since he wanted something filling and tasty that wasn't going to mess with his stomach.]
Just have a seat, Dipper-kun. It's no trouble at all, and it's basically dinner-time. Minako-chan's working late tonight, unfortunately. But she'll be glad to see you when she gets home. We've got a pretty lively little home here.
no subject
How are you feeling? Is there any medication you need to take, Dipper-san? I can look it over, if you want? Do you have any allergies? I forgot to ask.
And when dinner is done, we can do a quick little tour of the apartment so you can find everything easily.
no subject
He'd worry about that later. For the moment? It is nice to be somewhere like this. ] It's definitely got a lot of character. [ It's not hard to pick up on where Rei and Ami had influenced their shared space.
Then he turns to Ami. ] I'm a little tired. [ And a lot of other things, but...they could talk about that after there's food in him.
He fishes a prescription bottle out of his pocket and hands it to her. ] They gave me some painkillers to take to help me sleep, but that's it.
no subject
Are you in a lot of pain? And is there anything you can think of that needs taking care of? [She does her best to ignore the stabbing pangs of loneliness in Dipper, knowing how hard it’d been for Mabel when one half of the duo had disappeared. Rei’d done what she could then, and she’d do that now, right down to spending time making macaroni art if it came to it. She still had some of it, tucked away in her room.]
If there’s something that you need, we’ll take care of it. That’s how we treat our guests.

[She's been told not to trust anything from CERES the entire time she's here, so why in Mercury would she just trust the doctors, Rei? She frowned. Curious as to what caused all this. She knew that Tadashi and Hiro were going back to the jungle... but... well, she would ask when Dipper was feeling better.]
That includes entertainment, we have quite a selection of board games now and not just my chess board. If you're feeling up to it, I'm sure we could look through what we have and play a round or two.
no subject
[ Ah, yes, he is a master of tact.
He takes the bottle back from Ami, depositing it in his pocket again. ] You guys don't really have to go to all this trouble. Really. I can just stay out of your way.
[ He already has a feeling how they're going to respond to this, but he says it on principle. It's hard for him to let himself be looked after like this, even in his current condition. ]
no subject
We invited you as a guest, Dipper-kun.
[Then the fryer bings and she leaves conversation to Ami, heading back to start making the katsudon.]
no subject
Forgive me, Dipper-san, I'm sure you are quite tired of explaining it, but what exactly happened?
no subject
He isn't sure how much they know already, so he starts with some background. ]
Yu Narukami invited myself and some others to return to the jungle so we could investigate it further. We were almost back to the colony on the last day when we - [ No. This is his fault, and he'll take the blame. ] - I was...lured away from the group. The trees tricked me, and...
[ Mabel. Ford. The promise of returning home. ]
I ran into a monster instead. A really nasty one.
no subject
So Yu had invited Dipper along? That...didn't sit well with her at all. Not that the boy couldn't handle it, but bringing someone his age into danger seemed beyond ridiculous. She'd assumed somewhat that he'd just tagged along, not been specifically invited like herself and the other Senshi. Rei had obviously turned the invitation down after discussion with Ami and Minako, but between Dipper, Yosuke, and the 'leader' himself she's starting to wonder if she should have.]
The trees...? [Half murmured to herself, she turns away, content to listen and not add more.]
no subject
Dipper, how did the trees trick you? [She'd need to immediately add this to her notes lest more people become susceptible to it.] If we can figure out how the trees tricked you, we can figure out a counter to it, so that no one will ever be hurt by them again.
I understand if you don't wish to talk about it, but we can help.
no subject
But it's hard to. The hallucinations he had seen had preyed upon what Dipper wanted the most: to see his family again. Just the thought of them makes his stomach churn. ]
I...I saw hallucinations. It happened to others in the group a few days before, but... [ He shifts in his chair. ] I saw my sister. And my uncle.
no subject
I'm sorry, Dipper-kun.
[It's mumbled, all she can say.]
no subject
I'm sorry, Dipper-san. But, you know, when it comes to our loved ones, no matter how smart we are, even if we do know better, when our hearts are played with, we'll throw caution and reason away, if only for that moment to be with those we love again. You fell for it because you love your family so much, not for power, not for any fame or fortune, but because they used your love against you. Using love against someone? There is no greater crime. Would it have worked otherwise?
no subject
...No. It wouldn't have.
[ But I shouldn't have let it work anyway. ]
The rest of the group came after me when I wandered away, and the monster started attacking us.
no subject
[Another fried cutlet finished, Rei starts working on the last one.]
That's what it did. But that would have worked on anyone. If...I'd seen Ami-chan, I'd have gone for her. And I know she'd do the same. There's no shame in falling victim to it, Dipper-kun. Ami-chan is right.
no subject
Dipper, did anyone in your group, did they know about the trees causing hallucinations? Yes, there is deadly plant and animal life there, but what reason did you have to suspect the trees when no one had prior experience with it? Paranoia only works so well for so long.
no subject
Even with his best judgment, would he have been able to walk away? What would it have said about him if he had walked away from his real family? ]
Well...it had happened to a few of the others a couple of days before. [ Hiccup, Tadashi, Link...and they'd all been drawn in by them, too. ]
