[ OPEN ]
Who: Yukina Suzumori (
snowyoni) & various others + OPEN
When: IC (05/31 - 06/15) ;; OOC (all of March)
Where: CERES Gymnasium, CERES Academy Kendo Room + Gym.
What: Yukina's post on 05/16 about sparring partners garnered interest. Now it's time for first meetings and practice!
Rating/Warning: None at present.
[On various mornings throughout the month, those who expressed interest in sparring may find a message from a certain young woman. The swift departure for Cerealia's darker side coupled with the memories kindled by it had left her questioning and quiet for some time. ... Well that and it's taken her a bit to understand how messaging works on the CereVice, alright?
Either way the message will be very polite and invite those interested to come to either the CERES Gymnasium if they aren't students or the CERES Academy's Kendo Room or Gymnasium if they are at a specific date and time. Unfortunately some of her messages may have gotten sent to the wrong people so it's perfectly possible for those who didn't volunteer to end up with a message as well.
Once there they'll find Yukina waiting for them dressed down for practice... or at least in what she regards as dressed down.]
--
[OOC: If your character didn't respond to Yukina's search for sparring/training partners, you're perfectly welcome to assume they got a message in error. No sparring is necessary, drop in just to see who the heck messaged you.
Feel free to PM or PP @ goodluckstarfighter with any questions.]

well, it's rude to ignore an invitation.
yukina might be disappointed to see the gym door creak open just a sliver, and a shy face pokes in. it's clearly not someone dressed for sparring, and he looks rather confused and nervous. ]
Um, excuse me? Is there some sort of, um, meeting here?
no subject
I don't believe so.
[A meeting? Well beyond her own... ah. The confusion in her expression eases into surprise.]
I did send some messages about sparring to others but...
[He certainly wasn't one of them since she didn't know him.]

Ah. I -- guess I must have gotten the message by mistake, sorry. Maybe my number's similar to someone you meant to send a message to.
[ an awkward laugh as his words taper off, and for a moment it looks like lop's ready to leave. but he hesitates. waffles on the spot, gripping tighter at the door, before venturing a little nervously: ]
Um, but. If ... if it's not much trouble for you, is there any chance I could watch? Um, your sparring, that is. I don't have any experience in anything like that. In fighting. But -- I guess I'm a little curious. Especially in a place like this.
/sob, he's so cute
I don't mind others watching, no.
[Tension leaves her shoulders. Obviously he's not too upset over the mistake and it warms her heart a little to find someone so curious about fighting in general. She smiles a little gently.]
I believe it's important to know how to defend oneself. I understand not everyone enjoys fighting however. Hopefully you're never in such a position here where you would need to.
[She bows after that, proper with her introductions.]
I'm Yukina. I apologize for the earlier message, I'm still learning the technology here.
aaa thank you, i've just been itching for a chance to hit up yukina myself ... !
Ah, it's a pleasure to meet you! [ properly pushing his way into gym, he gives her a little bob of the head in greeting. ] I'm Lop. And um, please don't worry about the message. It took me a little while to get used to the phones here, too.
[ as he draws near, his expression tinges with quiet respect. yukina's equipment looks pretty serious. she's definitely someone who knows what she's doing, isn't she. there's a brief pause before he rubs at his neck. ]
... my brother back home, he's a boxer. So he's always offered to teach me to fight. I never took him up on that offer, because I thought it'd be useless to me. [ a vague laugh as he touches at the empty sleeve housing his missing arm. ] But I guess I kind of regret that now. In a place like this, that might have come in handy.
So, if it's not a bother to you, I guess I'd like to make up for that.
bless, that's so sweet. thank you. c:
Is boxing more hand to hand?
[She's never really heard the exact term before but that's nothing new. This place is packed full of things she doesn't know a lick about.
Her eyes follow when he touches his empty sleeve but she says nothing on it other than noting the missing arm for herself. Empty sleeves weren't such an unusual sight among the older populace of humans at home, many having lived much of their life in the midst of war. Fighting had it's unfortunate costs and it's the fact that he isn't a fighter that strikes her more than the injury itself.
In the end she bows politely, a habit she's unlikely to shake anytime soon.]
I'm Yukina.

Boxing is, um, hand-to-hand, although usually wearing gloves. Only punches, no kicks.
[ briefly mimicking the defensive posture of boxing. ]
Although it's really done more for sport than self-defense. I think even experienced boxers wouldn't know much about how to use a sword, so maybe it's not that similar to what people here are capable of, after all.
[ a slightly awkward laugh as his gaze drifts down towards her sword. ]
no subject
[She knows some how likely engage in that simply as a form of training and conditioning rather than self defense.
She glances down to her sword as he does and then smiles gently.]
We all have things we're experienced in, I believe.
