Always Believe in the Heart of the Cards Except When They Tell You to Kill People

Welcome to CERES Research Tower’s latest event! For all you new folk queuing outside of the conference room where you were just made to sit through a lovely power point presentation, you will be asked to stay a bit longer and test out some games in their Game Testing Center. It’s a giant space located in the basement level filled to the brim with cubicles for everyone to sit in and enjoy their newest array of pop-up games. The games themselves will be in holo(gm) form and will feature suggestions from CEO’s post, including a simplified, 8-bit version of Tetris, Baseball, Soda Smash, etc. Characters can control the game through moving their fingers and tapping them against the holo(gm) screens.

Surrounding the cubicles will be tables of food and more food for characters to partake in. It’s all safe this time. No mind-altering candy corn or gut-exploding Knight Burgers. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the party. For those who have been in Cerealia for a while, they should have received an invitation to the event and an offer of 1,000 credits just for participating. So come on down and bring a friend or ten! Meanwhile, CEO has a small welcome for everyone-

We have been expecting you. We hope you will enjoy what we’ve put together today. PHASE I

[ xxxx ] Music lightly wafts from the speakers as the showroom opens. Julius Vincere, CERES’ CEO, delivers the opening announcement before leaving the room. He’ll be watching through all the video cameras placed around the room, so be on your best behavior! You will be guided to one of the many cubicles where you will sit and wait for a screen to pop up with a game. Once that game is defeated, another will pop up and another and another until your character gets hungry/has to pee/is so done with this shit.

PHASE II

[ xxxx ] Among the game rotations is a simple 8-bit fortune telling game starring Aria, the fortune teller. Come be enchanted by her mysterious wiles as she reads your future. She will do some 8-bit arm motions before summoning a ring of cards that will float around her. Characters will be encouraged to pick a card -any card. Once one has been selected, it will turn around slowly and unveil a card from the major arcana. Aria will then give your character their fortune, and that will be that. End of game. Onto the next!

PHASE III

[ xxxx ] You’ve left the testing center, and the evening has passed. As you wake up to perform your normal daily tasks, a niggling urge emerges at the back of your mind. It’s faint at first, just a whisper of a suggestion that pokes at your brain like a mosquito bite. However, that bite starts to grow bigger and become infectious. As the day wears on, you find that one little suggestion escalating. The next day is even worse. It starts to dominate your every thought, making you carry out actions you never thought yourself capable of. Who is this person in the mirror? Who have you become?

PHASE IV

[ xxxx ] By day three, the impulse is now a full-blown addiction. It’s set into your psyche completely. You’ve become something else entirely –the embodiment of the card. You will be acting out everything without anymore resistance, and it won’t stop until the clock strikes midnight. That’s when you’ll reel back to your senses, and when it’ll all have felt like the worst dream ever. Or a nightmare really.

BONUS

[ whyo'clock ] Among all the games present, there is also an 8-bit version of CERESLearn. Yes, you remember the magical game that won your hearts over not too long ago. It will come complete with the same rules. You choose a subject, you choose an 8-bit teacher among the three (Astor), (Hilda), or (UN-Zippy), and you watch them as they try to erotically teach you what you want to learn. Is that an 8-bit boob or her arm? Who knows? But beware… as you may remember, these teachers house a very terrible secret.

They will transform into an 8-bit giant bug that will chase around your protag as you guide them to run away with your finger, but you can also flick the bug on the holo(gm) screen to send them away for good. Those who figure out that little cheat code will immediately receive a special real-time shoulder rub as a reward from a robot that looks eerily like a carbon copy of their teacher of choice.

[ Remember to apply proper warnings on threads with trigger-y or inappropriate material and do let a mod know if your thread careens off into maiming or canoodling so we can lock the log. ]

[She really should be taken to the hospital. Hence why Tenka doesn't hesitate to scoop her up into his arms the second that he sees her. There's so much blood and there's no hiding the distress in his eyes as he tries to figure out whether or not she's in pain or if she's in shock.]

Lily-chan. Lily-chan-- [okay he doesn't have time for this] Lily.

Lily, look at me. Can you hear your Ten-nii? Can you see me?

[He can feel the rage boiling up in him - who could have done this to such a small girl?]

[Lily had initial pain from the shot...and fall, but right now she was more numb than anything. She just wants to find her 'friends' so she can express how dear they are to her. So that no one else can have them. That is the plan but one certain 'friend' suddenly scooping her up causes her to be left in surprise.

In Tenka's arms she looks up at the man with a blank kind of stare before she begins to smile. Great! One of her friends found her, better yet it was her big brother.]

I can see and hear you...I'm okay, now that you're here.

[The blank stare concerned him but her words and the smile do manage to soothe his concerns a bit. So now he's just going to wrap his arms around her tightly in a hug, keeping her close to him as if it'll be enough to protect her from the rest of the world that seems so determined to get her.]

You are. I'm here. I've got you....

Do you hurt anywhere?

[About to move in his arms, she goes limp a little surprised by the sudden hug, but more than welcoming it. Hugging him back she grips perhaps a little too tight to the other, not ready to let him go.]

I'm glad.

Huh? No I'm okay. [Besides the blood and some glass on her clothes.]

[As opposed to anything else, he interprets the tight grip as one inspired from fear and desperation. So he just hugs her a little bit more tightly in return for a moment before sighing and then beginning to walk, still carrying her.]

Okay....

Well, you're kinda scuffed up - [an understatement] - so let's get you cleaned up, okay?

[Holding tight onto him, she looks to the ground as she watches the pavement as they walk. Such concern is really nice and she can only believe it's because they are friends.]

Scuffed? I was shot though? [Oh and then the window...right.] Okay, as long as it's just you and me!

[She seems very firm about that fact...no one else can be close to Tenka.]

[That much manages to get him to stiffen and he nods in agreement. Sure, it'll be just them for a bit. For whatever reason, Sousei hasn't caught up to him yet so it's fine.]

Who shot you, Lily?

[He keeps his voice as level as he can, trying not to alarm her and betray the rage that's already starting to build.]

[Sousei might not have but now he's found his next little yan...Who's all too happy to see that nod that they will be alone together. The topic back to the shot though gets her to tilt her head.]

My friend...he didn't want to believe he was mine.

[Lily will drop the name next but right now she was focusing on Tenka.]

But I'm with Ten-nii now so that doesn't matter!

[In response to her brushing off the topic and being okay now that she's with him, he just runs his fingers through her hair soothingly. Yeah. He's here and he has no intentions of leaving her alone.]

Lily....

[ . . . . ] I'm going to ask you something, but it's only because I care about you, okay? You can tell me if I'm wrong.

[Just holding tight to him she's comfortable with the hair stroking. She only perks up when she hears her name. Pulling back a little she looks at his face.]

Yes, Ten-nii?

Are you sure the person who shot you is your friend?

[She'd defended her master so adamantly even though he ordered they kill people - he's not sure if this is the best line of questioning. But he still has to know.]

Vincent? He's a Baskerville like me...why wouldn't he be my friend?

[She seems more curious than anything...it was hard for her to pick between the two. Tenka was here now and she really loves him.]

[She'd mentioned Vincent before and Tenka hasn't forgotten. Wasn't Vincent the one who was mean to her?]

Because if someone treats you like this.... if they hurt you all the time - isn't it unsafe for you? Isn't it painful?

[She has before and he normally isn't this bad...sometimes.]

It won't kill though! He's mine. I live with him too.

[ . . . . . well, that sounds familiar. It's the first hint that Tenka actually picks up on that Lily's been affected by something in this world.]

Lily....

Are you... okay with being hurt then?

[Lily looks baffled for a moment. Anything the world is doing is lost to her right now all she knows is that she doesn't want to lose any friends.]

...

[Blinking she shakes her head briefly.]

No, I don't like it.

But you forgive him every time?

[It's something that Tenka has issues with too. A person can cut him up so many times over and he'll forgive them. They can betray him and he'll accept them back into his heart. That's fine for him.

But he doesn't want that life for Lily.]

He's never shot me before...he can be mean but he's never hurt me.

[The person that first shot her isn't here. Though the hatter is here and he was much, much worse.

Lily was forgiving though, she would let Reim be her friend still...in fact she wants it more than anything.]

[ . . . . and Tenka just sighs at that, not understanding her rationale. He'll speak to Vincent himself later but for right now he just hugs her tight again.]

Just make sure he doesn't shoot you again....

If he does, Ten-nii will get angry, okay?

[After this was over with she would be begging forgiveness from Tenka. Right now the influence of the card is just too over powering for her mind. Hugging him back a little tighter she doesn't show signs of letting go.]

Okay, I will let you know!

Ne, Ten-nii...I want to play a game with you!

[ . . . .he blinks at that, tilting his head.]

Ah- sure, Lily-chan.

But for right now, you need to get cleaned up, alright?

[It seems like a great plan to her. One that she's very keen on doing even when he mentions the mess. For a moment she remains quiet before she nods her head softly.]

Yeah, that would be good.

[The blood was starting to dry and get itching in some places.]

[Thank goodness. He sighs in relief at that and this is the moment where he's probably brought her back to the apartment. Somehow they managed to miss Sousei and Tenka's grateful for that.

So he enters and carries Lily right over to the bathroom.]

How long have you been wandering around like this, Lily-chan....?

[Lily hadn't been to Tenka's home before...though he did say she was always welcome, right? It makes her strangely happy for him to bring her there himself though. Although it might ultimately be a mistake on the man's part.

In the bathroom she looks around, the layout is different than her own home.]

Maybe an hour? It's doesn't hurt now.

[Tenka doesn't really hesitate to grab a spare towel and wet it now, making sure it's warm water too. How many times had he taken Chuutarou in from a long day of playing and been the one to clean him up when he was younger? Though this time it's blood and not mud - and that is a little off-putting.

But still, he just offers Lily a smile to try to pick up the atmosphere a bit.]

A whole hour? Wow, my Lily-chan's such a brave girl!
