[ it was a few weeks back when athena invited rei to go to a club with her, primarily because she's never been to one. ever. she likely won't have a lot of time once she goes back home, so she's taking the opportunity now, here in cerealia to do so. she wanted to invite a friend that rei didn't know as that was the deal: she'd bring somebody to introduce to rei, and rei would do the same. unfortunately (or fortunately), rei and athena actually have a lot of common friends. that, and there are a lot of girls whom athena knows who have since disappeared. it's a pity, really. friends slowly disappearing... but that wouldn't be a good topic for a conversation here in this place.

she texts rei that she's waiting for her by the entrance to niteo. frankly, she's nervous, and rei would definitely be able to tell once she gets here.

in any case, she should be easy to spot with her bright reddish-orange hair tied in a sidetail. aaaand... she's also wearing something yellow. ]

[In all honesty, the prospect of visiting a nightclub wasn't really something Rei placed high on her priorities list. It was just a thing that some people did, and some people didn't, but she wasn't going to turn Athena down when she'd asked. They were both hurting from various things, and it wasn't like it was going to be the end of the world if this went weirdly. She could always leave, after all. That was certainly a possibility.

With the arrangements made with Yuri, Rei got dressed up in a pretty mundane outfit. A red cocktail dress, her mother's necklace, and just a hint of lipstick and nail polish that she rarely bothered with. Better to look good and not risk Athena grumbling about her being a party pooper. Plenty of chances to do that without starting off that way. So, may as well make herself look more stunning than usual, for simplicity's sake.

Rei didn't bother with a text back, she just followed Athena's sense and waved when she got closer.]

Hey there.

[Clubs were the opposite of places Yuri liked to go. It was almost impossible to avoid touching people here, emotions ran high, and Yuri wasn't so confident in her abilities as to think she'd be totally fine in this kind of situation.

But... Well. Rei had invited her. Rei seemed to believe she could hold herself together and Yuri wasn't about to disappoint her. Besides, making new girl friends, like Athena, would be good for her, right? If Rei as her friend, she couldn't be bad at all.

She'd actually had to go out and buy something specifically for this but she likes the look enough to not be bothered with spending the money.

Yuri takes a breath as she approaches, pushing her hair behind her ear] Hello. [She dips her head slightly, a quick, polite greeting to them both and hesitates a moment at Athena. Ah, I'm Yuri. If... you didn't already know? [Which she might have-- Yuri's sure their paths must have crossed once before, and maybe Rei's mentioned her--but still. She fidgets with the bracelets on her wrist and glances around]

I don't think I've ever actually been to a club before.

[ athena perks up immediately upon seeing rei, and while she doesn't know yuri just yet, her presence does make her smile all the more. the three of them might be within each other's zones now, but she raises a hand anyway to wave at them. ]

Wow, you guys look great! Really... Really pretty! [ that's definitely one way to start the conversation. :') she puts her hand down before she starts brushing her hair with her fingers, really excited for the night they're going to have now. then she looks at yuri and nods before extending a hand to her. her right hand is usually gloved, but she doesn't even have her robot necklace on her right now, so she didn't bother with the glove, either. ] I'm Athena. It's nice to meet you!

[ she grins at yuri then before looking over at rei. ]

It's just us three tonight, but I'm sure we'll have tons of fun.

[ with how timid yuri sounded and rei being the cranky old lady (yeah, you heard me) that she is, athena will just have to come up with various things on the spot to make the night more memorable. HOPE YOU GUYS ARE PREPARED. ]

[Rei brushes hair aside at Athena's compliment, secure in the fact that she does actually mean it. If there was one thing Rei could say about herself it's that she looked good, and it was a point of pride for her. She didn't have to be fashionable, fashion had to work to keep up with her. If someone thinks she's a grumpy old lady, then she's in for a surprise.]

I'm sure we will. [Rei wasn't about to refute anything Athena said, willing to trust that the lawyer would find something for them to do with all that energy she had. If not, well, Yuri was nice and there would be drinks.] Sorry that Ai-chan couldn't make it though, I'm sure she'll regret it tomorrow.

[Turning to Yuri, Rei smiles fondly and inclines her head.] I'm glad you could come though. We'll...do our best to keep you comfortable. We're all a little bit...ah...extrasensory like you, and I know I for one would like to have a booth or something. [She looks to Athena, smile not wavering.] That should be priority number one. In a place with this many people, I'd like to have a place I can sit and at least have some cover from them.

[Yuri can't help but smile a little back at Athena, assured in her assessment that she'd be a nice person. Friendly, but not overbearingly so. Yuri found herself relaxing quickly.]

Oh-- you don't have to worry-- [Yuri waves a hand dismissively, a little embarrassed. Then again, if they're all extrasensory, then it's probably a good idea to look out for each other anyhow. She glances curiously at Athena, but doesn't pry just yet.]

Hm, well, if it's like that... I'll rely on you guys to show me what to do here. Actually-- [Yuri hesitates and then makes an amused noise, looking a little sheepish.] Actually, I'm looking forward to this. I don't really have a lot of girl friends. Thanks for inviting me.

[ athena's never been to a bar nor a club before, but she has an idea of how partying should be. this experience may be new to her, but it shouldn't be such a difficult thing to adapt to, right? ]

A booth, of course. [ she nods towards the entrance where a bouncer waits by the door. ] Let's go find one, then. It shouldn't be too late that all the booths are taken. [ and that also means they'd have to stand up, which... won't be fun. with that, she turns to enter niteo, her hand clutching her purse tighter than usual. she at least has an idea that this could also be a dangerous place. it'd be good to watch over one's belongings properly.

the bar is bustling with people which is probably the norm in this place. there are people on the dance floor, and there's even some kind of alien dj bobbing his head to the loud club music to the side. some booths are occupied, but there are still some that are free. looks like the three of them are lucky tonight. ]

Of course. [Look, when you die together, you're Rei's friend for life and since Yuri seems like the sort that doesn't have many girl friends it felt right. Waving a quick gesture of compliance with Athena, she follows the yellow-clad loudmouth inside.

The whole place is like something out of a movie, is really Rei's first thought. It's a lot of noise, and while it's not super crowded it's certainly not quiet. Not by a long shot. Still, it has a good vibe and it's hard for her to complain. Athena'd done the research, and she figured her friend wasn't quite insensitive enough to take her someplace she couldn't handle. And really, if there was something dangerous Rei was more equipped to handle it than either of the others, so she felt like it was best if she did seem unassuming. The element of surprise was always nice.]

Lucky us! [Rei scooted into the booth and took a seat at one of the high stools around the booth, surveying the place.] We got a good spot. Not too far from the bar, and far enough away from the DJ that we can actually talk.

It's loud!

[She's not sure why she's so startled by this, but it's like she can feel the beat of the music deep inside her bones; it's not unpleasant, but it's certainly different. It startles a little laugh out of her, just a soft 'ha!' of surprise as she sticks close to Rei and Athena.

The booth is nice, Yuri has to admit. She likes being both closed off and able to observe everything else, and she shoots them both an amused look.]

Are you two even old enough to be drinking? [Not that anyone in this city seems to actually care, but Yuri will get some teasing in while she's able] We'll end up in jail if we're caught, won't we?

[ yuri's comment about the place being loud only makes her laugh as she takes a seat, taking out her cerevice from her purse. she intends to take a picture of the three of them! this is a night to remember, so she's definitely going to document it as much as she can. ]

I'm nineteen now, so I'm definitely old enough to drink. [ but yes, it's not like anybody would care if you were thirteen and started drinking! athena makes no mention of that, though. ] Anyway, if those police robots come to arrest us for anything that might happen tonight [ foreshadowing. ], I'll beat them up so we can get away easily.

[ ...not something you want to hear from a defense attorney, but #yolo!! ]

[Rei snorts a laugh of her own and settles a bit, looking at Yuri with a wry smile.] I'm nineteen as well. Back home that's above the legal minimum. [~~The mun actually researched Japanese alcohol laws years ago, it was eighteen till 2001. I am a nerd.~~.] Honestly I'm not worried about anything going wrong tonight.

[She gives Athena a bit of a look, knowing just what she's saying and...] and you will do no such thing. Because we're not going to get arrested. And even if we were going to be? I'll do the fighting. You can prepare our legal defense. [That's a joke. As if Cerealia has courts! Or would prosecute people spending money on entertainment.]

If we get arrested, I'm pretending I don't know any of you. [She's just putting that out there now. She's an innocent bystander swept up into this madness, officer, really!]

Besides, wouldn't that be resisting arrest? That'd be an even worse offense. Rei, I thought you were the mature responsible one here... [But Yuri looks amused, surprised at how relatively painless it's been to slip back into old habits, like back when she actually had friends. Granted, those friends had been so...normal.

She can't imagine that same group hanging around here or with people like Rei and Athena. Strange how perspectives change.

Yuri looks curiously at Athena though. Legal defense?] Are you studying law?

[ ah. they haven't even started drinking and rei is already being a party pooper! she puffs her cheeks at rei and gives her a look before whining. ] Fiiiine.

[ but!! yuri's question only gets her more excited. she holds up her palm as if to tell yuri to stop as she uses her other hand to fish through her purse to pick out a badge that looks like a sunflower. ] I'm a defense attorney. Well, back home, anyway. [ and she's definitely far too young to be one, but try not to mention that or else she'll get insulted :') ]

Do you guys want to take a picture before we go crazy?

It's only resisting arrest if they manage to catch us. [A spark of mischief flickers through her eyes. She's not going to let anything happen, and they both know it. That's part of being a superhero, isn't it? Protecting people was something she was supposed to do, even if it was from corrupt law enforcement, wasn't it?]

A photo? Sure, I guess. [Rei's from the 1990s, girls. She doesn't know what a selfie is yet. She's not really the kind of girl who'd do that sort of thing, but nobody has introduced her to the concept either. Someone's slacking in their cultural education, Athena.

Sitting up straighter, Rei begins fixing her hair a little bit and looks to Yuri, wondering if she'll feel the same way. She seems pretty shy, all in all.]

[And it's a good thing Athena hurries the conversation along, because Yuri was this close to asking about that. 19? Already a lawyer??? What kind of super genius was she??

Thankfully Yuri's from like, 2010 or something so she understands the concept.] A selfie? [She hesitates and loos back at Rei. Between Rei and Athena, Yuri doesn't quite feel as up to par (they're so pretty how are the people she knows this good-looking), but...She doesn't want to be a stick in the mud.

Normalcy. This was what normal people did. But she nods her agreement and scoots in closer so they can appear in the shot together.] Um, can I get a copy too? Even if something does happen, I want to remember this.

[ while athena's only just met yuri, she can definitely tell that this is going to be a night to remember. it's going to be a blast!!

she scoots closer as well, practically sandwiching rei now as she takes out her cerevice. before posing, she clicks the camera app and switches the camera to selfie mode, and then lets the device hover in front of them so she doesn't have to hold it to take the picture. it's then that she wraps an arm around rei and smiles at the camera. ]

I'll send it to you both later. Cheese!

[Well, this is a surprise. Someone's in Rei's personal space that isn't Usagi or Minako. There's no reason to freak out since it's Athena and Yuri, she knows, but her fingers twitch a bit when she's squished. Her smile for the camera is a little bit awkward, but then is too.]

Alright. That's a...selfie? [The word sounds vaguely vulgar, her tongue curling around it distastefully. She's a granny, clearly. But at least she's pretty?]

[She leans against Rei, not putting her arm around her like Athena is, but close nonetheless. She even puts her hand up in a peace sign and attempts a small smile. When the picture goes off she straightens again and scoots back to her original spot.]

You didn't like it, Rei? Girls are always taking selfies back home and posting them up online for people to see. I guess we don't really have anything like Facebook or something here though, do we? [Is there a secret social media scene of cereal that she's not aware of?? who knows]

[ athena immediately grabs her cerevice to check on it before sending the photo to the other two... and merlin. and as soon as they're back to their spots, a waiter comes by and hands the three of them a menu of the place. the drinks aren't all that expensive, but they aren't cheap, either. the food is a bit pricy, though!

as she's browsing through, though: ] I don't think so. But we have CEREStube... I guess that counts for something.

[Rei doesn't take long to sit back, herself, looking at the table pretty intently. That seemed so...vapid. And there were a lot of things that were said that she just didn't know.]

I didn't know what it meant, that's all. I'm from a few years further back in the timeline than nearly everyone. I also don't know what Facebook is, though I hear about it a lot.

[She frowns and pours over the menu, before nodding and ordering an apple cinnamon drink of some sort. And an order of french fries.]

It's funny, but I think that there's a generation gap between us, and we're all around the same age.

[Price isn't much of a matter to Yuri--she doesn't spend money on...well, anything, really, except rent so she's got some to spare. She stares at the menu and orders something banana-flavored and... what the hell is a 'jalapeno popper'? She orders that too because why the fuck not. If she doesn't like it maybe one of them will.]

I can pay for the first order or two for you guys, if you want. As thanks. [She hesitates a moment and adds:] Actually, I insist.

[~~Also I finally looked it up Yuri's from 2006 but WHATEVER~~. What Rei says is true enough though and Yuri looks thoughtful] There are people our age but from Medieval times too, or far into the future where they're living on different planets. It's weird, but... It's kind of cool too, right? It was 2006 when I left, so I didn't have too much trouble adjusting here. But I bet some other people really had it hard...

Well, in that case--

[ this girl may have three jobs (she had four recently, but with archer's disappearance, she's back to having just three) but she's always broke as hell. her money is always spent on other people because she just wants to help them out or give them presents. heck, not too long ago, she hired an acapella group to serenade merlin while he's walking down the street. and after that, an old alien man who's regular at the cosplay cafe she works in asked for her help so she gave him some credits. someone stop this poor girl, tbh. ]

I'll try a Mexican coffee, and— oh! Pizza wheels.

[Rei, disinclined to argue and resolving to get Yuri back, merely nods. She can accept that as a group thing. It's community and technically she's the eldest so first round should be on her. Japanese social norms and all.]

You know I will look the same in 2027 as I do now. And in 2057.

[Don't open this can of worms, Ms. Cykes.

Rei lets her attention swing back to Yuri, giving her a nod to let her know what should be obvious: Athena knows her secret. ]

[Yuri frowns and gives Rei a concerned look, but the look she receives from Rei makes her relax. Of course, she doesn't doubt Rei wouldn't be making jokes like that if Athena didn't know, but it's nice to have official confirmation that it's okay.

She's still used to thinking of herself as the oldest, but once you throw in the "same age but from different times' things seem to get a little muddled. Ah well.]

Is Mexican coffee made differently from regular coffee...? [You know, besides the (presumable) alcohol in it. What makes it Mexican??? She helps run a cafe shop back home, but she's still a little new to all of this.

...Thinking on it, she'll have to make coffee for them all one day. It's the biggest show of friendship she knows]

Not all of us are immortal goddesses, Rei, that's hardly fair. [But she's amused despite her words.] Besides, in 2027 I'll only be-- [She falters a little once she does her math and winces.] 40...? [Okay yeah, a grandma. Dammit you win this round Athena.]

Shouldn't you respect your elders a little more? [Would Rei still count as an elder even when she'll look the exact same, because she's technically from an earlier time?? Whatever, Athena's still the baby of the group so there]

No idea! [ she just saw that it had coffee in the drink, as well as tequila. the description sounds good, so she wants to try it! in any case, if it doesn't taste good, at least it's yuri who's paying for it and not her. :') (sorry.)

but, ah... that's kind of unfair, rei! her brows furrow as she looks at her, and it's as if she's sulking. it looks like she's about to say something to rei when yuri makes that retort about her age. at which point, athena just laughs. ]

I dunno. I'm pretty bad at being respectful, to be honest! [ because she's definitely the kind of person who would call old people "old farts". she even ends up insulting a prosecutor and almost got a penalty from it! ]

Well, you'll only be forty. That's still young. [Rei can't help but laugh, reaching out to squeeze Yuri's shoulder playfully. She liked this already, and Yuri was just kind of sweet. She got some pretty strong 'Ami' vibes from her new friend and death-buddy.

Because that's not a morbid thing to think about while on a triple date to a club. Haaaaa...] And Athena will be a petulent little girl still.

[Leaning back in her seat, Rei focuses on keeping her tone teasing. Because for once? She actually is. But people-ing is hard okay? She's not much of a joker, but sometimes she'll find a way to make even own dour self smile.]

Your disrespect and discontent is noted for the record, though, Athena. It's a charm point, though, so the court will wave the penalty.
