[ it was a few weeks back when athena invited rei to go to a club with her, primarily because she's never been to one. ever. she likely won't have a lot of time once she goes back home, so she's taking the opportunity now, here in cerealia to do so. she wanted to invite a friend that rei didn't know as that was the deal: she'd bring somebody to introduce to rei, and rei would do the same. unfortunately (or fortunately), rei and athena actually have a lot of common friends. that, and there are a lot of girls whom athena knows who have since disappeared. it's a pity, really. friends slowly disappearing... but that wouldn't be a good topic for a conversation here in this place.

she texts rei that she's waiting for her by the entrance to niteo. frankly, she's nervous, and rei would definitely be able to tell once she gets here.

in any case, she should be easy to spot with her bright reddish-orange hair tied in a sidetail. aaaand... she's also wearing something yellow. ]

[ athena immediately grabs her cerevice to check on it before sending the photo to the other two... and merlin. and as soon as they're back to their spots, a waiter comes by and hands the three of them a menu of the place. the drinks aren't all that expensive, but they aren't cheap, either. the food is a bit pricy, though!

as she's browsing through, though: ] I don't think so. But we have CEREStube... I guess that counts for something.

[Rei doesn't take long to sit back, herself, looking at the table pretty intently. That seemed so...vapid. And there were a lot of things that were said that she just didn't know.]

I didn't know what it meant, that's all. I'm from a few years further back in the timeline than nearly everyone. I also don't know what Facebook is, though I hear about it a lot.

[She frowns and pours over the menu, before nodding and ordering an apple cinnamon drink of some sort. And an order of french fries.]

It's funny, but I think that there's a generation gap between us, and we're all around the same age.

[Price isn't much of a matter to Yuri--she doesn't spend money on...well, anything, really, except rent so she's got some to spare. She stares at the menu and orders something banana-flavored and... what the hell is a 'jalapeno popper'? She orders that too because why the fuck not. If she doesn't like it maybe one of them will.]

I can pay for the first order or two for you guys, if you want. As thanks. [She hesitates a moment and adds:] Actually, I insist.

[~~Also I finally looked it up Yuri's from 2006 but WHATEVER~~. What Rei says is true enough though and Yuri looks thoughtful] There are people our age but from Medieval times too, or far into the future where they're living on different planets. It's weird, but... It's kind of cool too, right? It was 2006 when I left, so I didn't have too much trouble adjusting here. But I bet some other people really had it hard...

Well, in that case--

[ this girl may have three jobs (she had four recently, but with archer's disappearance, she's back to having just three) but she's always broke as hell. her money is always spent on other people because she just wants to help them out or give them presents. heck, not too long ago, she hired an acapella group to serenade merlin while he's walking down the street. and after that, an old alien man who's regular at the cosplay cafe she works in asked for her help so she gave him some credits. someone stop this poor girl, tbh. ]

I'll try a Mexican coffee, and— oh! Pizza wheels.

You guys would be grandma's in my world. It's 2027, where I'm from.

[Rei, disinclined to argue and resolving to get Yuri back, merely nods. She can accept that as a group thing. It's community and technically she's the eldest so first round should be on her. Japanese social norms and all.]

You know I will look the same in 2027 as I do now. And in 2057.

[Don't open this can of worms, Ms. Cykes.

Rei lets her attention swing back to Yuri, giving her a nod to let her know what should be obvious: Athena knows her secret. ]

[Yuri frowns and gives Rei a concerned look, but the look she receives from Rei makes her relax. Of course, she doesn't doubt Rei wouldn't be making jokes like that if Athena didn't know, but it's nice to have official confirmation that it's okay.

She's still used to thinking of herself as the oldest, but once you throw in the "same age but from different times' things seem to get a little muddled. Ah well.]

Is Mexican coffee made differently from regular coffee...? [You know, besides the (presumable) alcohol in it. What makes it Mexican??? She helps run a cafe shop back home, but she's still a little new to all of this.

...Thinking on it, she'll have to make coffee for them all one day. It's the biggest show of friendship she knows]

Not all of us are immortal goddesses, Rei, that's hardly fair. [But she's amused despite her words.] Besides, in 2027 I'll only be-- [She falters a little once she does her math and winces.] 40...? [Okay yeah, a grandma. Dammit you win this round Athena.]

Shouldn't you respect your elders a little more? [Would Rei still count as an elder even when she'll look the exact same, because she's technically from an earlier time?? Whatever, Athena's still the baby of the group so there]

No idea! [ she just saw that it had coffee in the drink, as well as tequila. the description sounds good, so she wants to try it! in any case, if it doesn't taste good, at least it's yuri who's paying for it and not her. :') (sorry.)

but, ah... that's kind of unfair, rei! her brows furrow as she looks at her, and it's as if she's sulking. it looks like she's about to say something to rei when yuri makes that retort about her age. at which point, athena just laughs. ]

I dunno. I'm pretty bad at being respectful, to be honest! [ because she's definitely the kind of person who would call old people "old farts". she even ends up insulting a prosecutor and almost got a penalty from it! ]

Well, you'll only be forty. That's still young. [Rei can't help but laugh, reaching out to squeeze Yuri's shoulder playfully. She liked this already, and Yuri was just kind of sweet. She got some pretty strong 'Ami' vibes from her new friend and death-buddy.

Because that's not a morbid thing to think about while on a triple date to a club. Haaaaa...] And Athena will be a petulent little girl still.

[Leaning back in her seat, Rei focuses on keeping her tone teasing. Because for once? She actually is. But people-ing is hard okay? She's not much of a joker, but sometimes she'll find a way to make even own dour self smile.]

Your disrespect and discontent is noted for the record, though, Athena. It's a charm point, though, so the court will wave the penalty.

Athena will be the type in a nursing home racing her wheelchair around, right? And giving all the nurses heart attacks.

[She covers her mouth to hide her smile, shoulders shaking a little in silent laughter. It feels good to act like this again, like the times before she got her powers and before everything went topsy turvey. Maybe her life isn't the ideal she wanted it to be, but it was... It was something. She was making something of it, and she could be content with that.]

For now. [But keep it up Athena and see what happens!!]

[ WOW WOW WOW!!! that makes her bang her fists on the table, and the timing doesn't get any more awkward when a waiter comes by to serve their orders. he scuttles off quickly just to get away from the loud screaming girl tbh. ]

Because that's where you're going to end up one day. A troublemaker like you confined to a hospital bed? Never.

[Rei reaches for her drink and sips it, lips pursed in amusement at the reaction. Wow, Athena. Taking the joke a little too far, huh?]

[Yuri watches the waiter go with a twinge of embarrassment, but hopefully he won't remember their faces too much after tonight. Maybe there's still hope that she can show her face around here again, if she ever chose to.]

Mm. I can already tell Athena's not the type to stay peacefully in bed. So a nursing home. Or maybe your own place still. Full of cats. [she reaches for her drink and takes a bigger sip than she meant to, turning away to cough a little.]

It's a bit stronger than I thought it'd be. [She's never gone drinking before; this'll be interesting, she thinks.]

[ you guys!! that's so offensive!! ]

You're making it sound like I'm going to grow old alone, which I won't! [ honestly!! and this embarrassment that she's feeling is something that she needs to cover up, which is why she's drinking her coffee and downing some--a lot of it before setting the glass back on the table. ]

You've said a dozen times that you don't have time for night clubs and dating back home. [And that's where you're going to grow old. And grow into a blossoming woman. Not here.

Rei sips her drink a little more slowly and shakes her head.]

Not so bad here. It's pretty spicy though.

Are you interested in someone, Athena? [Just. Casually asking. She's curious, and this is the sort of things girl friends gossip about, right?

As long as that line of conversation doesn't turn around on her anyhow, then everything is Just Fine.

She knows Rei had a girlfriend here that's since gone home, but she's not sure if she's taken up casually dating again yet or not...]

[ ah... that's such a punch to the face, rei. thank you. athena visibly winces, and even though it's terribly cool in the club, athena starts sweating. it's a painful reminder of her circumstances at home, and it's dawning on her that she doesn't want to go back to los angeles. ]

I don't— [ ... want to go home. not anymore.

but she can't exactly say that, huh? not yet, anyway. it's not a decision that's easy to make, after all. thankfully, yuri manages to divert athena's attention to something else. ]

Um. Merlin's my boyfriend... [ she knows at least that yuri was with rei and merlin when they were taken that... one time. when there were ghosts, so she doesn't have to beat around the bush. ]

[Rei's a little surprised to see Athena start to sweat, immediately regretting what she'd said. She may have gone too far. Maybe.

Leaning forward a little, she's about to apologize and deflect when Yuri does it for her. And wonderfully so.]

He's a good guy, too. [And that's a mark of the highest esteem Rei can give to the entire male gender. Not that either of the two here would really understand that. Rei's issues with men are incredibly deep-seeded things, but some of the men here at least have earned her respect.]

She's been head over heels for him for weeks now.

What? Merlin? [She looks baffled and rather surprised at this information, and then winces at her own tone]

Sorry, not that that's a bad thing, I just... He seems really nice, I'm just surprised, I guess. [SHe's not sure how to explain this in a way that wouldn't be throwing Merlin under a bus. She didn't quite see hi mas the kind to ask someone else out.

Then again, he'd also randomly hugged her in the grocery store, so what did she know?]

If Rei's praising him it must be true... It's cute. [She smiles a little] Did you ask him out first, or did he?

[ merlin would probably have a different story, but-- ]

W- Well! [ ah... athena can be very embarrassing but somehow she just wants to crawl into a hole now. she talks a lot about merlin but nobody's really asked her for any details about their relationship. it's... kind of weird. ] I don't know? I mean, it just kind of happened. We don't... really go out on dates or anything. I mean, there was one time we went to the movies, but that was it.

We just spend time with one another?

[Rei will quietly sit and watch Athena squirm a little, sipping her drink and eating a french fry.

Oh this is good. Revenge for calling her old...]

If that works for you, it's fine, isn't it? It's not like there's a 'right' way or a 'wrong' way to date, I think...

As long as you're both happy with it, I wouldn't worry about it. [Yuri's not an expert either, but she shrugs. Who cares as long as it's good for everyone involved? She reaches over and attempts to sneak french fry away from Rei]

Merlin seems like a nice guy, so I'm happy for you both.

[Not they just have to focus on setting Rei up with someone...]

[ considering they only started using "dating" as a term recently, it's still really weird! merlin said that he'd rather call it courtship than anything else, and she's been using that same idea all this time, too.

she just nods, though, cheeks flushed red now. ]

Yeah... He's an idiot, but he's nice.

[ she was told to tsun responsibly, and that is what she's doing! ]

A- Anyway, why are we talking about me?! Do you like someone?

[ SORRY REI, we're skipping you because the whole universe knows who you like anyway. ]

[WOW. WOOOOOOW. Not only do you skip her but stealing her fries. Rude.

But she pushes the basket towards Yuri so she can share anyway.]

Yes, that's a good question, Yuri. Do you have someone?

[She's guessing yes.]

What? [Yuri looks instantly alarmed, freezing with a fry halfway to her mouth. After a second she shoves it in her mouth to buy herself some time, her face slowly turning red.]

I... No. [But she winces, because Athena was honest with her, so she should really return the favor.] Not... officially. I was going to tell him soon, actually but-- [But she's getting cold feet about it.

She sips her drink anxiously then and adds (because she knows they'd ask):] It's, um-- Do you know Rock Lee...?

[ athena is drinking her coffee when yuri replies, and she couldn't swallow fast enough. when rock lee's name is mentioned, she almost spits out her drink right at rei. it's a miracle she manages to control herself from opening her mouth, and instead battles herself from laughing, hitting her chest repeatedly just so she can down the drink before she reacts.
