( vector. )

( continued from here. )

—Wait.

[ Is the warning he tries to make, but it's largely too late: Vector's already in the room and probably looking at the two corpses inside, one of the director and one of his secretary. It's not exactly the kind of thing Adolf would've liked for Vector to see... oh well. ]

...Don't touch anything. [ JUST IN CASE...YOU KNOW... VECTOR TRIES TO TOUCH DEAD PEOPLE. ]

jyajyaaan: (watch out!!)

[personal profile] jyajyaaan 2015-07-29 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Vector makes sure to keep Adolf from seeing his face as he looks at the scene in the office, making occasional soft noises to keep up with the mood as he inwardly scowls. Is this some sort of joke? It feels as if the game maker is gloating over the successful coup and taking some last shots at the defeated.]

I know this scene. There was a post on the network not too long ago, about how the previous CEO of CERES and his secretary were found dead and that there's a new one now...

[Walking closer to one of the bodies, he tries to shift it in order to see some of the papers their face is lying on.]

I wonder why they'd make it into a part of the ga-WHOA!!

[Pardon the clattering as he lands on the floor. Pointing at the not so dead corpse, he complains] He pinched me!

['Did not! You poked me first!']
zitteraal: (17.)

[personal profile] zitteraal 2015-07-29 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
[ Being new, he doesn't put two and two together like Vector does, but he figures that there's something significant about this and its real-life counterpart...

...which he'll have to consider at another juncture, because did the dead guy just move. Cue him reaching out at the kid on the floor and tugging him back and away from the 'corpse', none-too-gently.
]

Stay back.

[ The 'dead' director scowls, mumbles something about kids these days and how they have no respect for the dead. Adolf can feel a migraine coming on. ]

I told you not to touch anything, if this is some sort of j—

[ —and, well. Before he can finish, there's suddenly a big block of text that appears as a prompt:

Pursue Justice or Truth?
]
jyajyaaan: (this just got 100% more serious)

[personal profile] jyajyaaan 2015-07-29 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
....what now?

[Looking around, he doesn't see any useful clues.]

I think we just triggered a game regular event or level. I mean. It should be planned since nothing has tried to kill us.

[The tone in his voice adds a silent 'yet' to the end of the last sentence.]
zitteraal: (18.)

[personal profile] zitteraal 2015-07-29 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
[ This is the first time he's dealing with ViViD levels, so he's still...figuratively fumbling through the dark, and his brows furrow as he looks back and forth between the floating text and the 'dead' director on the ground.

The 'corpse' opens one eye a crack, and sighs. "Just make a decision, I don't have all day."
]

Then I assume choosing the 'wrong' option will set off something that'll try to kill us.

[ It's a question disguised as a statement, wanting some sort of confirmation as he tries to think of which would be more important: justice, or truth? ]
jyajyaaan: (So like .... and-?)

[personal profile] jyajyaaan 2015-07-30 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
[Vector pretends to think for a moment before he shakes his head.]

No, I don't think so.

[Cue one of the corpses chiming in again. Vector ignores it.]

I think it's more that we're going to get challenged no matter what we pick? It's like having the choice between a fire and a water gate. 'Truth' and 'Justice' are most likely the themes of whatever awaits us.
zitteraal: (46.)

[personal profile] zitteraal 2015-07-30 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
[ Well. This means that they have to make a decision, and Adolf shifts his weight from one foot to the other, green eyes fixed on the choices in front of him. ]

Fine, then.

[ A beat. ] Which one is more important to you.
jyajyaaan: (scared but willing to die for you)

[personal profile] jyajyaaan 2015-07-30 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[Neither, but he can't say that. Justice is whatever the most powerful in the room decides it to be. Truth is subjective. Looking at the options again, he wrinkles his brow.]

I don't know. Justice without truth seems really wrong to me. And the last time I put my faith in people rather than demanding the hard truth ended pretty terrible.

But...

I don't think that aiming for an absolute truth while disregarding morals or a sense of justice would be for the best, either. The- [He trails off as a memory flashes through his mind. His father, weapon raised, shouting at him that Vector should have never been born and that he was going to remedy that fact right now-! His mother screaming his name as she shielded him with her body while his mind had turned into an empty buzz because this couldn't possibly have been the truth. His hand flies to his arm, nails digging deeply into his skin until the pain roots him in the present.

No. That's not a truth he ever wanted to learn about again.]

Sometimes the truth ...hurts.

[It's weak, it's pathetic and he hates himself for how vulnerable and young he sounds saying those words. But he also knows that this is another truth and that he is continuing pretending to be Rei Shingetsu because being constantly Vector would mean opening himself to everything that has happened on a scale that he isn't ready nor willing to bear with yet.]
zitteraal: (13.)

[personal profile] zitteraal 2015-07-31 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
[ Ah, this hurts. It's also somewhat out of left field, a sudden confession of something seemingly private, coming from such a small frame. He sees the nails biting into skin, hears how those words trail off, and thinks to himself that to this boy's credit, he has the courage to admit when the truth hurts.

(He doesn't want to think about his own truth, of the value of it, of the value of his own being.)

After a beat, he raises one burn-scarred hand, hovers it between the two choices.
]

Are you afraid that whatever truth this place may show you will hurt?

[ He keeps his tone placid, even; but the sentiment behind his words edge in, compassionate despite its distance. ]
jyajyaaan: (you can count on me)

[personal profile] jyajyaaan 2015-08-01 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Vector shakes his head.]

... No. The truth might hurt but I'm not going to let that scare me away from doing whatever must be done. I'm going to follow my way.

[There is resolve in the ways he says it, silently declaring that he means it far further than just what this game or colony might toss at him.]
zitteraal: (14.)

[personal profile] zitteraal 2015-08-01 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
[ That response is far more mature than he could've expected, with a resolve that shames him to some extent. His expression remains calm throughout, though, even as he reaches for the option labeled 'truth', lets his fingers run over it without any more hesitation. ]

...Truth, then.

[ And once he selects their path, their surroundings melt away into a maze of cabinets, a mess of winding walkways— Adolf steps in front of Vector, silently protective. ]
jyajyaaan: (No matter what. I trust you.)

[personal profile] jyajyaaan 2015-08-01 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[Having nobody but himself to rely on and being subjected to a gruesome death both sort of help steeling Vector's resolve a lot. It's nothing he could ever recommend to somebody who's not an enemy, though.

Taking a look at their surroundings, his gaze ends up lingering on the person in front of him. The way he keeps trying to protect him isn't lost on the redhead.]

...why did you choose truth as well?
zitteraal: (32.)

[personal profile] zitteraal 2015-08-02 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
[ He didn't think he'd be asked, so there's a moment of palpable consideration, green eyes fixing themselves on several different objects— cabinets, medical supplies, blank sheets of paper— before they settle on the kid behind him, his body turned halfway to facilitate the movement. ]

This is just a game. It doesn't matter to me, either way.

[ That isn't quite the truth of it, and if anything, the truth to him has always been just as cruel as someone else's imposed sense of justice and utility; but it's useless to dwell on it here, where there's at least a thin level of obligation for him to make sure that the teenager sticking next to him stays safe.

He makes a motion for Vector to follow, using his limited powers to feel for any lifeforms nearby.
]

...It's just a choice that seemed less questionable than justice.
jyajyaaan: (but in real I like you)

[personal profile] jyajyaaan 2015-08-02 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
[That's bullshit. He wouldn't have taken that long to answer or made such an issue about having Vector pick if it really meant nothing to him. Also, 'less questionable'? Whoever this man is, he does a crap job at hiding his body language, not to mention of subconscious signs of inner workings.

Taking a breath, Vector follows him, falling quickly in a pace that has him walking by his side at a one step interval of lagging behind. (Just enough to not get into his way if need be.)]

That reminds me, I don't think you ever told me your name.
zitteraal: (18.)

[personal profile] zitteraal 2015-08-02 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
[ This day is shaping up to be 'emotionally taxing trials: the saga'. He's lost his family three times over in the course of 27 years, give a guy a break.

But, well. It's an innocuous question, and as much as he wants to go the 'don't ask me things you don't have to know' route, he tosses it aside. For now.
]

Adolf Reinhardt. It won't do you much good to remember.

[ He stops, taps a section of floor with one foot, and then sidesteps. ] ...There's a trapdoor there, be careful.
jyajyaaan: (Shhhhh!)

[personal profile] jyajyaaan 2015-08-03 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmmmmm~ [Giving Adolf a long look, he suddenly grins and elbows him in the side in a school boy manner.] Leave deciding that up to me, won't you~?

Because I have a good feeling that I'll want to remember you-uh?

[Being warned, he of course stops and then triggers the trapdoor with the tips of his toes.] Wow! You really found one!

[Following along, he takes in their route, committing it to his memory while also keeping his eyes open for any hints for which direction they need to go.]

I'm Shingetsu. Rei Shingetsu, a first year at Heartland Academy in Heartland City. Well, or I was.
zitteraal: (46.)

[personal profile] zitteraal 2015-08-03 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
[ Rei Shingetsu. That sounds like a Japanese name, and he has to sift through his etiquette regarding Japanese names to remember which name is more appropriate to call someone by: all the kids called each other by their first, but he deferred to last for Komachi. Decisions, decisions. ]

...Rei. [ He settles on going for the first name (familiar but inevitable for him), dodging another trapdoor and turning left at a fork in the path. If Vector looks to the right, he might spy a Cthulu doctor looking disappointed that the two didn't come his way. ] First year in high school?

[ Or middle school...? He glances at the kid, trying to gauge an age. Too young, is what he thinks. ]
jyajyaaan: (this is bad)

[personal profile] jyajyaaan 2015-08-03 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[He tilts his head for a moment as if considering the name choice Adolf has picked, but quickly gets distracted by the nasty they just ditched without even getting close.]

I'm thirteen, if that's what you mean. Soon fourteen. [What else is important..?] I'm a duelist, but so far not a very good one. My best subject is- Oh! Wait a second!

[Tugging at Adolf's clothes, he points up to a little device that is attached to the ceiling.]

Do you see that? That's a sprinkler! I haven't seen one here up till now! Help me up!
zitteraal: (15.)

[personal profile] zitteraal 2015-08-03 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Thirteen... he's so young!? And what in the world does he mean by 'duelist'...

Adolf is thinking about this to himself when he feels that tug on his sleeve, follows his gaze in the direction Vector is pointing.
]

A sprinkler. ...Fine, but don't set it off.

[ It's dangerous to get wet!!! There are better things to be doing than humoring Vector's curiosity, but the kid's humored Adolf this far with everything; it's equivalent trade.

He's surprisingly careful when he kneels in front of Vector to let him up on his back, really.
]
jyajyaaan: (it's super effective?)

[personal profile] jyajyaaan 2015-08-06 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
No worries, I won't!

[His confidence sounds like the first half of a gag, but the nimble way he climbs upon Adolf's back and balances on his shoulders proves fate otherwise.]

There's something written here. It's- ew! [Wrinkling his nose, he wipes the drop of stale water from his face.] There was still water in it. Anyway, the letters are Uuddlrl Rbax. And a three'o clock. ...What?

[Why do those nonsense words give him a sense of deja vu?]
zitteraal: (47.)

[personal profile] zitteraal 2015-08-09 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
Uuddlrl...?

[ Forgive him, he's a little busy keeping you up, Vector. He glances up as much as he's able with the extra weight on his neck and shoulders, furrows nonexistent brows to try to digest this new information. ]

What is it. A clue?

[ Three o'clock...? This is all flying over his head. ]
jyajyaaan: (sounds like a good plan)

[personal profile] jyajyaaan 2015-08-10 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Hearing Adolf try to repeat the monster of a name makes Vector giggle as he jumps back down.]

Hehehe~ You almost sounded as fun as that other guy I met saying that! But yeah, I think it is! We should look either for something that has a combination relating to those numbers in some way, try to head east or check out the doors to the right while heading down this way, I think.
zitteraal: (38.)

[personal profile] zitteraal 2015-08-12 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
[ Hm. Upon hearing all of this, there's a bit of a pause where it's apparent that Adolf is sizing Vector up. ]

You're surprisingly resourceful.

[ Is that an insult...? In any case, it's an observation, and that's all he offers before he turns in the direction suggested: east. ]

It's looking like puzzles are your area of expertise. Steer me in a direction.
jyajyaaan: (but that would have been a lie)

[personal profile] jyajyaaan 2015-08-13 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Resourceful? I guess, I am. [A small laugh escapes his lips as he leads the way while counting doors.

Tossing Adolf a look over his shoulder, he grins.]

My deck isn't the type that has any particularly strong fighters in it, so I learned how to rely on tactics and quick adaption instead. Do you like magic?
