Well, I only got accepted as a fellow team member before due to a display of magic. So you could say that.

[No exit in sight. That'd defeat the purpose of a maze way too quickly, and even while floating downwards, it was too dark to make out any exits or clear paths from above.]

Cooperation through necessity, I take it. What did you hope to gain in return?

[At least, that's what he's assumed, given that Kongwai used "only got accepted", implying that there wasn't much of another use for him, and that also implies he was seeking out the team in question.

Smalltalk indeed, as he telekinetically starts opening file cabinets. Maybe there's something useful in them...? No.]

[ Of course they wouldn't make this so easy to game... But better to check out the easier options first than dismiss that possibility for being too simple and regret it later. ]

I just needed to fulfill my objectives, and it just so happened that team's goals aligned with mine. Since I found them interesting, I decided it wouldn't hurt to join them on their journey while working towards my own goals.

[ That explanation may be pared down, but it gets the point across without implying how unequal the arrangement was (in his favor) from his point of view. With or without him, they would've succeeded in gaining their happy ending.

Lacking the ability to use telekinesis, he'll just settle for landing on one of the file cabinets and using them as a road instead. ]

The noise is a bit faint, however, even for his alien senses. Saiduq pauses, looking up at Kongwai on the file cabinets, wondering if he heard the same thing.]

Quite. We all got what we wanted in the end.

[ He'd rather not go into more detail, so the apparent distraction is welcome even if he's not sure what's there. Whatever caught Saiduq's attention isn't visible to his eyes. While he may technically be stronger than the average human, that doesn't include enhanced five senses. Since there's no way he'd be able to hear a sound faint for Saiduq at this range, he'll just throw him a questioning look when he realizes he's wordlessly addressing him. ]

...I may have heard something, but I cannot discern the direction it was coming from.

[They can thank the multitude of file cabinets in the way, blocking the proper flow of sound waves and whatnot.]

That's...unfortunate.

[ How illuminating. Obviously that means it's time to brace himself (more so than usual) for something possibly terrible. At least the ground's not too far from the top of the file cabinets. Even if it does knock him off, he can take a page out of a cat's book and land on his feet. ]
