People shouldn't have to learn like this...

[People should be able to live their lives in peace. Gosh. But well, at least some people are that type? That's good to hear. Quatre will at least stop lamenting the lost chance for normal, peaceful lives for people.]

Glitches?

[First time he has heard that word; he does not yet know how much he will grow to hate it.]

Ah... are you? I wonder though. All this talk about code, the fact that we're in a virtual reality... maybe we're already the duplicates. [That is not a comforting thought and he's quick to smile, shaking his head.] Sorry. I'm sure that's ridiculous as well.

[masakados]

[Judging from Naoki's sudden silence, perhaps not as ridiculous as Quatre might think. His head has ducked a little, his lips thinning into a deeper frown.]

I dunno. You can do all kinds of things with technology.

[He shakes his head.]

[Quatre notices the silence and glances over at him. Ah... is that really something likely? He can't discount it. He can't count anything out yet, knowing as little as he does of this place yet.]

I suppose so. I wonder if there's any way of finding out.

[Espionage. That is his long term plan apparently. As of now.]

Storm their headquarters?

[NOT SO ESPIONAGE... but Naoki's smile is dry, so he's probably joking.]

I don't know. We've got a lotta theories, but not a lot of hard proof of anything yet.

Do we have the strength of numbers for that? Or firepower?

[Wait. Was he supposed to hesitate at all before asking that question. Was it a joke?

Who knows. Quatre smiles now as well.]

No proof is difficult. They're keeping us all in the dark then.

Pretty much.

[Naoki sighs and tips up his chin.]

They let people into their headquarters a little while ago... if they do that again, we might be able to find some more things.

[colonially]

Maybe so. It's something I'd like to find out more about anyway.

[Headquarters, huh? Yeah he might need to consider breaking in there. Hmm.

Really it's too bad the others aren't here. Quatre's skills tend to be less in the break-in/hack-in and more on the tactics and diplomacy side of things. But he's not a total slouch at the former anyway.]

[masakados]

You and me both. And last time my girlfriend got mixed up in stuff and got hurt, so.

[He idly cracks his knuckles.]

I'd like to go in myself next time.

[Bust some heads, etcetera. His expression gets dangerously serious for a second there...]

I can't blame you. If they've endangered someone you care about.

[Quatre can get that. But be careful, Naoki. Occasionally revenge goes badly. You wind up in the zero system taking out colonies and one of your closest friends.]

[masakados]

[It's okay, he's not a Gundam Wing character, he should be fine--

Instead he's a Shin Megami Tensei character :( Which may be worse.]

I don't care as much if I'm in danger, but yeah. [He shakes his head. If it's someone else, ooh, he wants to flatten 'em who put 'em in danger in the first place.]

[Yeah Naoki you're pretty screwed. Beware the revenge trap!]

That does make things harder somehow. [Quatre agrees. He can handle danger on his own, but the people he cares about, people who aren't used to fighting, who shouldn't have to, no that's not okay at all.]

She's all right now though,isn't she? Your girlfriend?

[masakados]

Yeah, back to trying to knock me out.

[He says, with a fond smile. And he adds, after a moment to let a misunderstanding take root:] We usually train together.

[colonially]

Ah...

[Quatre laughs at the further explanation, before adding, with as straight a face as he can.] I wasn't going to question it. Everyone has different tastes, after all.

[He teases. Sorry, Naoki. He smiles though.] It sounds like you have some things in common. That's nice.

[masakados]

[Naoki blinks. And then he snorts with laughter-- he didn't expect to be teased back by this guy!]

Yeah, it is. It's surprising in general the kind of people who end up here, and how much you can find you have in common with them.

[For instance... lots of people who summon and use demons like he does. Well, not exactly the same, but not that far from.]

[Quatre is feistier than he looks, okay? Not that that's hard; he's really not that feisty looking in his khakis.]

Is that so? That'll be interesting to see then.

[Will there be other mecha pilots? Are their clubs? What is the deal here, Naoki?]

So... you met her here then?

[masakados]

[No, khakis don't quite say "feisty".]

Yang? Oh, yeah. Met her my first day here... we ran into each other after that and just hit it off, somehow.

And now I trust her more than anything. [He glances away, sheepishly plucking at his bangs.]

[What about snazzy vests?]

That's really great, I think, finding someone like that. An immediate connection... it happens sometimes.

[Quat believes in that sort of thing anyway. But Naoki is clearly smitten with this girl; he may have just met this guy, but it's kind of cute to see someone talk about someone they very obviously care about.]

[masakados]

[No... Not cute... He aims to be at least aloof on first meetings, but Quatre got him talking about Yang and here they are.

Naoki seems aware of it, at least, which is why his expression is slightly embarrassed.]

You know anyone like that?

[colonially]

[Nope. Cute. Aloof was working straight until girlfriend talk came up. Straight downhill into adorable from there.

Quatre glances over at the question, considering for a moment before nodding.] In a way.

A friend of mine, even if we started out in a battle, somehow it was clear we were meant to work together instead. [He lifts a hand to his chest. His space heart, Naoki, it totally knew.] I guess that's a little different though.

[masakados]

[Damn it. There goes his facade.

Naoki cocks his head curiously at him as he talks, a low hum of understanding leaving him.] Nah, I think it's close enough. Friends, girlfriends, boyfriends, whatever... you can have that kind of connection with anyone.

[colonially]

[Totally shattered to bits, Naoki. Oh well. Quatre is smiling happily enough anyway at Naoki agreeing.]

Mm! It's important, right? Having that sort of connection with someone. [Quatre misses his friends. But that's all the more motivation for finding his way back where he belongs.]

Something like that is definitely precious. I'm glad you managed to find someone like that.

[masakados]

[He's usually more careful with first impressions... Oh well.]

Thanks. It was easier than I thought it'd be, so you probably won't have any problems, either. [Friends, or anything, he's pretty sure that a guy who seems friendly like Quatre will have people close to him in no time.

Naoki's slower in that regard, due to his hesitance in trusting anyone.]
